Tang's Alterations

Santa needed a wardrobe upgrade desperately. Santa's outfit is very important. It must be made of the finest wool, fitted perfectly to his 'jolliness' and constructed with an artisan's skill to hold up to a long winter's night of rooftops, chimneys and reindeer. And most importantly, Santa's suit must set him apart from all imitators so children of all ages have no doubts: "....Oh yes.... this is the REAL Santa Claus" Obviously, this is a job Santa never trusted to anyone but Mrs. Claus. So, at breakfast, the morning after Christmas, after telling Mrs Claus about his grueling night of "present distribution", he mentioned the new wardrobe. He needed a new 'Coke' style suit (like he wore in those old Coca Cola ads). The whole deal; colonial style breeches (two pair!), vest/waistcoat and fur trimmed coat with big brass buttons. And the 'piece de resistance': A long parade robe with a hood, fur trimmed all around. And wide sleeves with embroidery and gold roping. Santa got excited just talking about it! Mrs Claus just stared at him. Uh Oh. She was not smiling. "Santa... ," She said quietly "I'm not going to be here. I'm leaving next week to visit my sister in Norway for six months. I can't possibly change my plans now." Santa started to mumble "Oh.. right, I forgot" Mrs. Claus smiled "You're tired dear. But not to worry. There's a wonderful place in Manassas, Virginia (in the USA) called ****'s. My sister's youngest daughter had them do her wedding gown. And I hear they made a dress for Miss Virginia! I'm sure they will do a terrific job. So after his nap, Santa hooked up the 'summer team' to the (much smaller and faster) cruising sleigh and headed to Virginia. Parking the sleigh at a friend's horse farm nearby, he borrowed a car and went to ****'s. What a wonderful surprise! Cheyenne, Kenny, Bona and the entire staff were terrific. They not only understood how important Santa's wardrobe was to him, it was just as important to them!! They BELIEVE! Santa is a jolly elf, but he is very particular about his suit, and the whole team a ****'s were right there for him and in the end... HE LOVES his new wardrobe. Mrs Claus is happy too, because now that she doesn't have to spend her off-seasons at the sewing machine, she thinking of visiting her Mom and Dad next year in Fiji!.

I left the suit with them for one night. It was quick. The company is close to my house. They did a quality job for me.

Both times these alterations were done by the shop assistant, so I would advise you to ask for the owner every time. I won't be going back.

She did an excellent job! Made the dress look look like it was specially made for my daughter. I don't know how much alterations typically cost but I think I would have spent a similar amount to have a dress altered had I bought one through a dress shop specializing in formal dresses.

My favorite color is cobalt. I found a new cobalt wool suit, but it was at least 2 sizes too big. On an Angie's list recommendation I tried T***'s Alterations and am thrilled at the results. The alterations included reshaping the 3 button jacket, removing and reducing the size of the sleeves, easing the bust measurement into a trim shape, shortening the jacket and lining, removing a side pocket on the skirt, removing the kick pleat on the skirt, and re-shaping the skirt from the waistband to the hem. She patiently worked with me and didn't even think of suggesting the obvious, "why don't you buy a suit in your own size!" I am very pleased to recommend her services as this was a true test of a professional tailor.
