-The sales reps never tried to pressure us into making a decision they were more than patient, we probably met with them 3 times before deciding and not once did they play any sales games
-The sales reps were very knowledgable about construction procedures, code, materials and just general knowledge about basements and decks. This made us feel really comfortable considering sales reps from a few other companies couldn't answer some basic questions we had.
-The company has a policy to take a small deposit until they get all permits and approvals for the job, which in our eyes made sense considering they haven't ordered any materials, etc....
-Their credentials with BBB, google, angie's list, yelp were terrific as well as one personal reference we contacted.
-The company has been around for a while which made us feel they were doing something right.
Pretty much after the approvals the work was started immediately which was nice. The entire process was streamline, we were constantly in communication with the sales rep or foreman thru email and text....which made things really easy considering we work during the day. We selected all the finishes prior to starting so construction moved rather swiftly, we were really happy to the extent of detail the company went to. They would text small things like where we wanted the lighting, how we wanted the tile layed, what type of baseboard, where we wanted the outlets, if we wanted raised panel or flat doors, how we wanted the floors on the deck in a angle or straight, if we wanted the top rail beveled, and probably a hundred other things they mentioned that we never even thought of. This really made us feel like we were getting a custom designed basement and deck finished. The deck was finished in about 10 days including all the inspection days, and the basement took a little longer than planned but in the company's defense we did make a few changes along the way. Everything went great and exceeded our expectations, we have since referred prg to a few of our neighbors looking for decks. We will definitely use them again in the future when needed :)

They said the project should take about 6 WEEKS...they started in Early April, and and quot;finishedand quot; by June 21st. With repairs taking place piece meal since then, and a few items still pending.
.
The Workers: Communication was difficult as only one of them, the Foreman Janice, spoke English. During the walkthrough we showed Neil a crack in the wall that we wanted fixed. Neil said that he would and quot;bring some one inand quot; to fix it. In the end Janice just got an Expoxy kit and did it himself, having never done one before. When putting in a Two Port Media Outlet, Janice told Steve he had never done it before, Steve looked at Janice and said and quot; You can figure this out right?and quot; This inspired very little confidence in me as a home owner. That is how things went overall, the workers were good at certain things and just shot from the hip on others.
.
Bedroom Doors: They said the double doors to the bedroom needed to open out so you could reach the light switch, when they installed the doors, they opened in--blocking the light switch. Which didn't really annoy us, it was just troubling that they made a big deal about the doors opening out, just to install them the wrong way.
.
The Tub: When the tub was first installed the workers did not backfill the hole they dug, they simply put the tub over the hole in the floor. Luckily my wife got down on the floor and stuck her arm behind the tub to take a picture. After we sent the picture to PRG and mentioned that this was unacceptable they corrected the issue by taking the tub back out and dumping quickcrete in the hole.
.
The Vanity: When the mirror and light fixture was installed they put it too far towards the wall, so when the vanity was put in the choice we had was 1.) Center the vanity on the mirror/light and all the drawers on the right side wouldn't open all the way; 2.) Move the vanity so that the drawers opened and have 1/5 of the mirror off the right side of the vanity; 3.) Have them tear the wiring out of the wall and move it to the left so that the mirror/vanity will be centered and the drawers will open. We chose option 1, due to the fact that the level of work we had seen from the laborers didn't give us any confidence in their abilities to fix the job without making things worse.
.
Door Hardware: The hardware in our house is all polished chrome. At the beginning of the project Steve and Neil said they they would find hardware to match. When they installed the doors the hinges were brass, so I emailed and called and told them polished chrome. No problem they said. The next hardware they installed was brushed nickel. We called and emailed multiple times. Every time there was excuses. They said the door knobs were hard to find--my wife ended up finding them online after a 5 minute search and sent them the link. It's now August 28th, and they still have not gotten the right door knobs.
.
Tile Floors: The tiling job that PRG did in the basement was very good, and it's clear that they have tiling down pretty well. Only two issues. One: In the bedroom, one of the tiles is too high and the bedroom door won't open all the way unless you pull up on it. A minor annoyance that we are going to try and ignore due to the amount of labor to fix said tile--properly. TWO: When PRG was putting in the latches for the double doors they drilled into the Tile Floor to put the bottom latch on the door. After drilling the hole in the tile and screwing the latch onto the bottom of the door they realized that they had put the latch on the wrong door. Just as the worker was moving the drill over to drill ANOTHER hole in the tile behind the correct door I stopped them and told them to just do the top latch. They were just going to drill into the wood and leave it at that, until I told them that they had to use the hardware for the door stop. This annoyed them as this meant they would have to cut the metal hardware to make a hole for the latch to fit through, but they did as I asked. I can honestly say I don't know why they even attempted to put in a bottom latch in the first place as a top latch would have been easier and just as effective. They did fill the hole in the tile, but it stands out because they just used whatever grout filler they had on hand. The thing to remember here is that if I hadn't been home, I would have had TWO holes in my new tile floor and just a round hole in the door frame for the upper latch.
.
Dryer Vent and Bathroom Fan: When PRG installed the dryer vent and the Bathroom fan they ran it all the way across our basement, using flex piping for the majority of the distance. At the time I thought it was unnecessary but figured they had good reason for it. When the PW Inspector came by for the final inspection he said it could be a fire hazard and that condensation would build up and pool inside the piping. Steve came by the house to address the issue after we called and complained, and questioned out loud why the workers would have done that in the first place. Then sent the same set of workers back to fix it. They cut a new hole in the side of the house directly over the dryer (where we initially assumed it would be) and ran the vent through it instead, then caulked the original vent shut and spray painted it. It's not pretty, but honestly I don't want the same people coming out a third time to TRY and make it better.
.
Cigarette Butts: One of the workers involved in the project liked to smoke, and he would sit outside the house and enjoy a cigarette on his breaks. The smoking didn't bother me because it was outside the house. The PILE of cigarette butts that he never picked up did bother me however, and even after complaining I HAD TO PICK THEM UP.
.
Inspection: During the final inspection the Inspector told us the bedroom could not be used as a bedroom due to improper set up of the smoke/CO2 detector and an issue with the electric outlets. When we checked the permit that Steve had pulled it said and quot;No Bedroom.and quot; In all of our emails and phone calls we referred to the room as a bedroom. It took 2 more days of work and the room had to be re-inspected. The issue was resolved in the end, but it was very aggravating to say the least.
.
FINANCING: We were told, both in person from Steve and Neil and via email from Steve, that the option we had through them via Wells Fargo was for 12 months interest free, 5.50% a year after--if we paid 20% down. We paid the 20% down, and PRG started the work. In July, when the work was still not completely finished, we got our first paperwork from Wells Fargo. Our hearts almost stopped. The paperwork indicated: 12 months interest free, 28% interest after that--with interest accruing. Our basement wasn't even totally done and already there was over $400 in interest built up. We emailed and called. Steve got back to us saying that Wells Fargo probably coded it wrong and that he would get back to us in a few days. We ca
"Thank you for your feedback [Member name removed]. We use Angie’s List to help grow our business and determine areas that we can improve on. We do care a lot about each and every client and want to make certain each experience is as pleasant as possible. We are extremely sorry that you feel this way and the experience you had with us. Since your project the crew from your job site has been let go, there is no room for that type of unprofessionalism in our company. We only attempt to hire the best workers, this crew had been with the company for a while but for whatever reason decided to get sloppy on your job...looking back they should've been let go during the project and replaced immediately. Sometimes during a project not everything goes perfect, but we try our best to correct any issues so the end project meets the customers standards. Yes there was an issue with the bedroom inspection that we came back and fixed and few other things we attempted to fix but guess it was too late since you had lost confidence in the workers by then.. We are not here to make excuses, the basement due to some issues did take longer than expected but eventually it was completed and signed off on with a completion certificate and final inspection. Although we feel a F rating is extremely harsh, it is your opinion and we value it. We see their were a handful of items that were not done correctly or to your standards, but on a positive note their was also hundreds of items done correctly. We are trying to resolve the financing the issues with you currently and have reached out regarding this. Although the financing is not a reflection of our remodeling work and should not be have an impact on our rating since most customers are on here to review workmanship not financing. Our company has a excellent track record, has tons of great reviews on angie's list, yelp, google, service magic and a A rating with the better business bureau. Again we apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to work things out with you on the financing discrepancies and any other services you may need."
The project took several weeks longer to complete than was originally estimated. We had to contact our representative often for progress updates instead of getting updates from them proactively. We also had to check every evening to make sure the work was being done according to plan, and one evening discovered that the steps were built incorrectly. There was also an accident when one of the workers fell from a ladder while building our porch, so that held up the construction time.
We are not pleased with the quality of the construction and workmanship. I don't believe this crew had worked with fiberglass and quot;wrappingand quot; before, as there are visible, gapping seams on all of our roof supports. Also, the porch failed the final inspection and we never received confirmation from PRG that the cited issues were corrected. For these reasons, we would not work with this contractor again.
The deck/fence/shed: This project was started first. Steve promised that he would be on the job site, but he was NEVER here during ANY of the work. My husband actually took a week off of work to oversee the project. The crew spoke little English and it was often difficult to communicate with them. However, they were good at what they did overall. We did have concerns with them not adding the sunrise pattern as discussed day prior for the rails. They also installed a crappy set of lights down the stairs with wires just hanging. We requested that they remove these lights and replace the boards. We also added cosmetic changes to the overall appearance.
During the fence building, they did not pre-plan before building the fence. Thus, the top sections of each panel are unevenly distributed. After multiple errors, we called Steve and requested him to walk around the property to view the errors. Note: They also cut the board too short instead of brushing away the rocks that prevented the boards being lowered to the ground.
Shed, we asked multiple times for a plan for the shed. We basically had to plan the shed ourselves. We also purchased our own hardware to be sure that it was done correctly. We also had to change part of the install due to the doors not shutting.
Windows: This was the only part of the project that went well. The guys arrived on a second scheduled day, due to rain. They took an entire day to install 13 windows and one sliding glass door. So far, the windows and doors are doing well. We do have some problems with one window and we will be contacting the company to honor their warranty.
In the end, we denied part of our payment to the company. We are happy with the products, but we had to work hard to oversee the construction.
UPDATE: Professional Remodeling and Steve have been helpful with their customer service in honoring their warranty. Steve put us in contact with US Vinyl that installed our windows and we look forward to these issues being resolved. Steve also apologized for not being on the job site and overseeing the work. He is making gains to re-earn our trust.
"The project manager "Steve," whom is referred to in this review as well as another was put on medical leave from October 2011 until March 2012 due to heart surgery…..unfortunately his projects were not given the proper attention to detail necessary by our company during his absence and we apologize for that. Overall this job was completed and paid for and we understand there were some minor service issues after the completion and the job was not done 100% perfectly to the clients standards but we don't believe this warranted an "f" rating. Our company stands by the extremely high quality of work that we do, and this review is unfortunate. Our company has been in business for over 25 years and completed over 4000 successful remodeling projects in the Northern Va area with an excellent track record with the State board for contractors, BBB, as well as many positive reviews on service magic, google, yelp, yahoo etc….we have thousands of references for customers to check with and see actual work……please do not let this one review be a reflection of the companies overall performance of work. We have a reached out to the customer in good faith to make good on the project, and do whatever it takes to earn there trust again."
