J & J CUSTOM HARDWOOD FLOORS

We received several bids, and Javier's quote was not the lowest. However, it was obvious he is an expert and has a great attention to detail. We went with J&J and are glad we did. The floors looked wonderful. At every step of the way, Javier explained what was going on and what to expect. J&J was recommended to me by a realtor, and I will recommend them to others.

We met with the owner who provided a detailed estimate of the work to be performed. The work was started and completed on schedule. We are extremely satisfied with the quality and look of the floors.

Javier does fantastic work. We replaced builder grade hardwood in 2 rooms plus our foyer. Javier removed the stairwell and replaced them to install the hardwood. He made recommendations that turned out to be great. We are extremely pleased w/the work done by Javier and his crew. Highly recommend him.

I can't say enough about this company.  Javier is excellent to deal with.   The crew was great as well, very polite and neat.  We left the house while they did the floors, but had pictures sent to us with updates.  The finished product is breathtaking.   It went from an 80's oak to beautiful dark wood.  I feel like I am in a new house. I expected tons of dust and their wasn't much at all. They took great pride in their work.  I would  highly recommend them.

Hardwood flooring in foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, and breakfast area. It has diagonal cuts and darker wood accents in the living room, making it look awesome. Stairs were not suppose to be done but after taking off carpet I decided to do them too. J&J did an unscheduled purchase on the spot and installed them also. Work done on time and within costs. Highly recommended.

I called J&J Custom Hardwood Floors to ask if they could come out to give me an estimate.  The woman who answered the phone was very polite and friendly.  She gave me a quick reference on how to calculate the estimate before they even showed up which I truly appreciated.  Sure enough after I received the estimate it was exactly as she had told me.  She scheduled an appointment for me a few days later.  The workers that showed up to do the job were very nice and did an amazing job.  My floors look like new.  I had 2 planks missing from my floor so they installed new ones for me.  You can't even tell which ones they installed.  They blended the new pieces so well with the old pieces.  They also installed toe kicks around the kitchen cabinets which look great.  The whole job looks amazing and I am so happy.  It was so nice to come home to such good looking floors with no hassles or surprises.  Thank you so much J&J Custom Hardwood Floors.   

Called the office and made an appointment for an estimate of whole house hardwood refinishing. J and J was no call / no show. I even reached out to them about 45 minutes after expected arrival. Got their answering machine, left a message. Radio silence ever since and that was 5 days ago...

Everything went as scheduled and promised. Javier had given us an estimate for pre-finished oak over a year ago. We decided to go with the better grade brazilian cherry, and Javier recommended going unfinished with sanding and finishing for a more professional and custom look. He completely re-built the stairs, vice just topping them with boards. They came at 7 AM every day and worked all day. Javier did the stair re-building. The floors look beautiful and everything is restored, except that he does not have finishers for the wall removed to rebuild the stairs. That was just a surprised, but his flooring guys are not sheet rock finishers - a small price to pay for the beautiful floors in our home. The price was about $2K less than getting pre-finished Brazilian Cherry from a more well-known company and the result is incredible.

The job went very well. They arrived and finished as anticipated and the work was performed as described. If the need arises, we will use Jand J Custom Hardwood Floors again.

We hired Jand J based on excellent reviews from both a friend and a contractor we use for other work in our house. The price was right and they are one of the only firms that will move and replace your furniture. Things started off great. The workers arrived as scheduled and got to work. After that first day, however, there were definitely problems with communication. We were never sure what time they would show up on subsequent days and there were times that they did not show up at all. I would not have minded this so much, if they would just have called or emailed to let me know what was happening. They're almost impossible to reach by phone. In all the times I called (and there were many), I never once got anything other than their answering machine. That wouldn't have been so bad if they would have promptly returned the call.
The quality and neatness of their work was excellent, so I would recommend them on that basis. Just be aware though that you might have to deal with some communication frustrations.

The flooring is 63 years old and had been refinished twice before. They look like new again. It took a week for the job and the smell was awful, but the result is great. The floor looks like new and was perfectly blended into our study's hardwood floor. The crew was very polite and careful with the furniture. They even moved the television. They came on the day they said they would start and finished only one day later than they said, but i never knew what time they would show up.
I would certainly have them refinish a floor again, they really seem to know their job.

He arrived on time. He inspected the damage to our floors and he told us we could do it ourselves and it would cost $7! Can you imagine? He drove all the way here and then told us the TRUTH about our floors and told us how we could do it ourselves! This si the BEST Company ever. They refinished our floor 8 years ago, and they did an excellent job then. Now this! I can't tell you how impressed i am with their service, price and professionalism! I would use them for any flooring needs i have.

Super job from start to finish. Very responsive and professional. Javier provided excellent suggestions that improved the overall look of my home. They are a class A operation.

Not only was job done in an exceptional manner, but the matching and integrating bedroom floors with earlier installed hallway floors was superb. Work was done with minimum impact to remainder of home and appropriate measures (appropriate plastic sheeting) we put in place to contain construction dust to the work areas. The also assisted in removal and storage of major furniture pieces prior to project and returning them after the project was complete. The resulting floors reflected their excellent craftsmanship and professional work ethic.

Javier made an excellent impression on us: professional and curteous, knowedgeable and eager to provide good advice or tips.
The price was comparable with the competition, too.
For independent reasons, totally unrelated to Jand J's qualifications or pricing, we did not move forward with the work, but we would not hesitate to call Javier again, should we need assistance with hardwood flooring in the future.

The floors look great and are much quieter than the old floors. The old floors were squeaky in places, especially the stairs. There is not a squeak in the entire house now, and the new stairs do not move at all and do not make a sound.
This was a tricky job in places, because the house is 112 years old and the old floor is a bit uneven in places. They dealt with the uneven places well. It all looks very natural.

UPDATE: It's now almost two years later (March 2014) and some squeaks have returned to the floors, but the stairs are still completely silent. Overall, the floors are much quieter than they were, and still look great.

We used Javier to refinish the hardwood floors at our rental property and he did an amazing job! We contracted him to install the Ten Oaks hardwood in our kitchen. He installed the hardwood floors but waited to stain and finish it until we were done installing all of our cabinets. His guys helped us select the right color stain to coordinate with the cabinets and granite countertops. They're punctual and professional. Javier takes the time to walk you through all of the options and the process. I would recommend them for any hardwood job - repair, restain, or installation.

Rep was courteous and well-informed.

They gave us a fair-priced estimate. They began performing the work promptly. They painted stain samples of our choosing on the floor, so we could better select our color. The drying took a little bit longer to try than they anticipated. They were responsive to us, and Javier and his wife were very courteous and gracious. After completing the job, they retouched a few areas upon our request, to make the result outstanding. They also went above and beyond their obligations when we got a stain on the floor (which was our fault) in the first week or two after the work. They came back and fixed it for free, which they didn't have to do. We highly recommend this vendor.

It came out beautifully. I have a 3000 sq. ft. apartment. They have done most of the floors in the building that I live in. They have also done a couple of projects for me. They are excellent. The owner is Javier. He is an excellent person. It was only one wing that they did. It was one long quarter, and they matched it to the rest of the wood. The price was very reasonable. They do flooring in a lot of high-end places that I have looked at that are in the millions. They are considered one of the very best. I was thinking of calling them to do another project for me.

I phoned J and J CUSTOM HARDWOOD FLOORS for a verbal estimate. Janette gave me cost information on a similar Bruce floor and promised to call me back with information on our Bruce model. I didn't hear back from Janette and called her the next day. She was apologetic and gave me the cost per square foot for our Bruce floor. I made an appointment for an in-house estimate. Javier arrived on time and was very personable. He took measurements and answered all my questions. Two days later I received a written estimate for our project via email. J and J’s estimate was very fair. I sent an email and left two voice messages that we would like to sign the contract. After two days with no response I called Janette. Again she apologized and we set a job date. The crew arrived 30 minutes after their expected window. They worked hard and did an excellent job installing the floors. We appreciated that they covered our baby grand piano with plastic and that they hung large plastic sheets across the two entryways to minimize dust. They did a great job cleaning up at the end of the day and helped move back the large pieces of furniture. Although I rate them a B for responsiveness and punctuality, I rate them an A overall I would recommend J and J CUSTOM HARDWOOD FLOORS without hesitation.

The proposed schedule was 5 days and they finished on time and left the house in good condition.
