From the initial planning to the final inspection, everything went smoothly and the work was done in a timely manner. The work crews were professional, and did a careful job on everything. I was surprised that there was more sealing and protection applied to the underlying structure than I anticipated, more than code requires, and the deck should last a long time.

HD Exteriors replaced our 20 year-old wood deck with a beautiful new Trex deck in April. We had gotten 4 presentations from companies based on contacts we got from the Capital Home Show, and HD Exteriors was head and shoulders above all the others in design, detail, cost, and communication. Graham Jr., was our point of contact in setting our contract, and he was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and clear. He listened to what we wanted to do, offered suggestions and didn’t try to upsell us. We were given a start timeframe, but our actual start date was earlier, which we appreciated. Throughout the entire process of signing the contract, having questions answered, being assigned a project manager, (Jai, who was always accessible and awesome) and the actual work being done, the communication was excellent. We were notified when workers would be onsite, when inspections were scheduled, when walk-thrus were done, and had access via text to our PM. All of it was extremely well done. The deck was finished with excellent workmanship, even when they installed a style of steps they’d never done before. We can’t say enough positive things about the entire company and how they operated. They were a pleasure to work with. We’re just sorry we don’t have anything else for them to build!

We hired HD to build a small thermal flagstone patio and a sitting wall over an existing cement slab. I chose them because of their Better Business Bureau A+ rating and positive reviews, and they offered the best price for the project. It went downhill from there after we signed the contract. It is now six months from the start of the project and it is finally done and we are reasonably satisfied with the outcome. It should not have taken more than a week to complete this project if it had been done properly. We were without the use of our patio for the entire summer. There was little to no oversight, the workers were unreliable and inexperienced, work was sloppy from day one, and communication was very difficult. Two of the workers relieved themselves in the back of my property, which was disgusting and obviously unacceptable. The general manager apologized repeatedly for the problems and even offered some kind of compensation but that never materialized. The workers also damaged our siding. HD sent someone to try and clean it, but they were unsuccessful. The company did not make any offer to replace it so we replaced the damaged siding at our own expense. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Great local company to work with. From the initial consultation until our porch and deck were complete, we were very happy with their work and would highly recommend them. I rarely do reviews, but want to let everyone know that HD exteriors is a company you can trust.

I recently used HD Exteriors to build my new deck. The entire team was professional and responsive. My sales rep, Jeremiah, was very polite and knowledgeable. There was no pressure sale. The cost was reasonable. Kim, kept me updated with the progress of permits and HOA approvals. The construction crew was great. The deck was basically completed in two days. I couldn’t believe how quickly they worked. The new deck is beautiful. I highly recommend HD Exteriors!

Deck replacement

I had 5 contractors bid my deck, HD came in with some fairly decent discounts and seemed very professional and dedicated. The design phase was fairly smooth, I chose the signature package with LED lights on the rails with the caveat that I would choose the colors after the samples were dropped off. I sent off an email after I chose the colors that I wanted to the POC that I was provided. Two weeks ahead of the scheduled start date they dropped off a series of pallets with all of the material on the side of my yard, after I called and questioned the timing and effect it would have on my grass, they moved up the start date by a week. Demo went well, except for the cleanup. I had to pick up several bags of trash and nails that were left behind and they damaged a downspout on a completely unrelated area of the house when dumping the old deck over my fence. The install seemed to be going fine until I looked at the colors of the decking and it was not what I had indicated in the previous email. I went ahead and went with the colors that were provided, they were fairly close, and I am somewhat ambivalent in regard to color. Things began to slide rapidly from here, I had 4 support pillars previously with a downspout running down one into a drain that runs under my patio, which is brick. They had a 3-pillar design that completely disregarded the drain and the downspout. When I pointed this out, I was assured they would run a line under the patio and tie it in to the drain. The deck itself was put together in fairly short order, about 3 days. I had several discrepancies with the install, one board was rip-cut and very jagged and the V supports were not aligned to the edge of the support beams, no right angles and mis-aligned. The PM assured me someone would be out to fix it shortly. We are now 2 weeks into the build and 4 weeks with the construction material laying in my yard, grass is dead at this point and I am getting frustrated. They come out and fix the mangled board and the V supports and the deck itself is done. I still have a damaged down spout and my patio has a gaping hole with my drain sticking up out of the ground. About a week goes by with ZERO communication from HD, I’m outside looking around and notice a 3 inch gash in my paddle board. At this point I email the owner and offer to go with another contractor to fix my patio, damage to the spout and tell him about the p/b. He offered to buy me a new p/b, that was nice but missing the point entirely, he was aggressive and agitated, mentioning several time “I built this company” and only concerned about getting paid. I fixed the p/b myself. He assures me that someone will be out ASAP to fix my patio and that they will find similar brick for the repair. I explained that that particular brick was the only option and provided the information where it could be purchased. About a week later the patio crew came out, tied the drain in and laid the brick as it was before, leaving me with about 60 extra bricks to store, including the ones that were partially cut and completely useless to me. Inexplicably there is also white spray paint on a 4 brick section next to one of the pillars In summary, the deck itself is about 4 stars. Service, communication and execution of the project are one star, hence the 2-star rating. I do not recommend this company.

They did a wonderful job from start to finish. Communication was terrific. The materials used were first rate and the crew did a wonderful job.

I don’t normally go out and put reviews unless I’m moved by an experience, service, quality, etc. In this case I just had to get it out there. HD Exteriors has been the best experience I have had with any patio/porch/deck company ever! Over the course of 3 homes, this is the fifth time doing a major exterior project. Each time I tried a different route of getting the project completed. Working with HD Exteriors has been the most rewarding and satisfying. They get an A++ for service, quality, cost, and just plain being human! I trust them whole-heartedly to do any future work on my house. In fact, I have already made plans for additional projects in my back yard and will be using them for all of them. My father is a tough critic and hard to impress. He is an excellent gauge that I use when making decisions. In this case, even he was extremely happy FROM THE BEGINNING with the work and experience! I just can’t say enough great things about the company, the workers, and especially the main team I worked with for this effort: Graham Sr., Graham Jr., Tom, Edwin, Diane, Beth, and Kim. If you want a WIN-WIN situation, then I suggest you go with HD Exteriors! It began with me having ideas of what I wanted added to the back of my house. I had contacted many companies to get ideas, suggestions, and estimates. Out of all the companies that came out, HD Exteriors had the best of all worlds! Graham Jr., the owner’s son, came over to look at the space, make suggestions, and give an estimate. Working with him was the most pleasant experience in customer service I have ever had. That was the beginning of me realizing HD Exteriors is what I wanted out of partnering with a business to complete a project. For this work, I went with a patio, deck and covered and screened porch. Graham Sr., the owner, was the next step in making the design a reality and crunching the final numbers. In fact, if it wasn’t for him, my project would have been average in terms of detail and looks. But he made a stellar design, incorporated my wants, and still was able to bring the price point down to something that worked for me and him. In fact, he was the lowest quote I had received! His work also included a warranty that was longer than the others and he was going to make sure we are happy at the end of the project. When the work began, the crews that came out for the work also were very pleasant and easy to work with. Tom, the project manager, and Edwin, the supervisor, were great to talk to and helped in making things happen. They were on site as needed. The crews were professional and knew what they were doing. When the work was completed, I couldn’t believe what I had on the back of my house! The completed patio, deck and porch turned out to be the best design in my neighborhood! My family could wait to start using the new space. Everyone was so happy. Neighbors were stopping through just tell me how wonderful the completed project looks and that they want something like that. I’m still in awe on how it turned out. It was natural and classy at the same time. It was PERFECT! I worked with Diane, Beth, and Kim throughout the whole process. They are in the HD Exteriors office and assist with the logistics, scheduling, payment, and closing out the project. It was an awesome operation as a whole. As said before, it’s a WIN-WIN! My family couldn’t be happier, and we look forward to future rewarding experiences and projects with HD Exteriors!

My deck replacement project was a guinea pig of HD exterior’s non-validated new crew (Owner admitted that he hired a new carpenter crew). This is a serious quality control issue. The estimated price was median based on few quotes. The actual build started on 9/21 and ended on 10/17 due to multiple issues. It seems like HD exterior is “busy” enough that they are no longer caring about their reputation as you see from older reviews. It was acceptable that current pandemic caused a broken communication between employees within company. However, I captured multiple typos and errors during the documentation and permitting stage (e.g. HOA). During the construction stage, I highly recommend to watch and appeal the daily progress to ensure the quality work, or they will miss something or conceal what they made a mistake. Until I ask a question, I didn’t received any explanation about entire actual build process. After their “proposed completion” on 10/5/20, there was “no final walkthrough with the company staff” on over $14k project. I found 20+ error and issue points (e.g. missing caps, misalignment, non-secured post, and more), but just received finance approval signature request over email and I recognized my deck was completed. Simply, HD exterior crew ran away. These crews are trespassed my backyard without checking in and randomly visited without notice (I thought it is a normal process, but it was not!). Finally, the majority of issues are resolved after direct communication with the owner of this company. If you are looking for a professional detailed work, this is not a right company who left tons of construction debris, screws and nails in my backyard (doesn’t understand the meaning of cleaning for their work).The crew was not careful with handling materials that I’m still seeing popped out nails, screws, cracks, and temporarily covered holes on lumbers and materials due to their mistake. “Necessary post work for owner after the construction” – I had to wash gravel yard and filtered all debris from it. Used shop vac to clean up composite debris. Filled sunken holes around posts and removed all abandoned dirt. Overall, I have a deck that reflected my requested design, but having doubt on “how long it will last” now.

Most of the presentation and estimate went fine. The gentleman was very nice, and easy to talk to. You could tell his presentation was polished. However, the reason for the low grade was at the end of the presentation, he offered a discount if I would sign the contract the same day. From a personal standpoint, I do not handle that type of sales tactic well at all. Especially when it involves making a significant financial decision. I have a personal rule that if a company does that, I do not use them, period. I think the presentation would have been better without that "catch" at the end. I am sure they do good work, but I just cannot deal with companies that want me to make snap decisions or lose out on a "discount".

Never received an estimate, despite wasting valuable time with the company rep who promised a quick turn-around.

HD put in a deck with us this summer, from start to finish they were top notch. They were the first company we called out, and after meeting with different crews and quotes we liked them personally better and the rates were very fair. Great quality, our deck looks great and we would happily recommend this company to friends and family. They honestly went above and beyond, especially during these challenging times with covid- they made sure materials were ordered, delivered, etc. graham also was super great to work with... I know I asked a million questions and he was responsive and always on the ball. Super appreciate the entire team- Beth, Tom, graham and the crew were great. Highly recommend.

We have a narrow space to build a deck. The guy came out, did some measurements and told us we could have an 8' wide deck. Then the project manager took measurements and told us the deck could only be 7' wide. We agreed. Then the owner told us it could only be 6' wide. We told them to see what they could do. We never heard back from them. After a week of waiting we called to cancel our contract and get our deposit back. We got the impression that they were just not interested in building our deck. We're going with another company.

I looked at several companies over several years for this project. HD Exteriors was responsive. They worked with me to create a design and plan that would work for our area. Other companies provided written information or a quick drawing of the proposed project. HD Exteriors has a computerized program that can visually show the design of the plans. The program provides an opportunity to look at a draft of the completed project. No other company provided the opportunity to see a finished project and then adjust it as needed. HD Exteriors provided a very detailed contract that they reviewed with me prior to the start of the project. They answered questions during the planning process as well as during the construction. HD Exteriors provided one point of contact who managed the different workers including deck construction, carpentry, concrete and patio crews. As with any construction project, there were minor adjustments and details to address as the project progressed. They were able to address my concerns in a timely manner.

I am so happy with my new patio! They also covered my concrete steps with stones that match the patio and it all looks so good. On the first visit they provided a professional overview and showed me past projects and ideas for what i could have done. Then, they were able to do the whole thing while I was out of town. It was great!

Project was smooth from start to finish. HD was very responsive and we had a quote/agreement within a few days of reaching out. Work started the following week and the HD project manager ensured that everything was done and looked great.

Work was don professionally, on time, on cost. The crew knew their business and Graham Perry oversaw the entire process. He actually had them do some additional work that needed to be done and did not add any cost to the project. I couldn't be happier..
