I was extremely happy with him. It was very nice. He does very good work and he does it right. He doesn't cut corners or anything. He was pretty good at responsiveness.

These guys redid the master bathroom, our basement bathroom, and renovated the h*** out of my townhouse so I could sell it. They put in all new carpeting and tile in the kitchen, new counters, new lighting, and painted everything. They also fixed a plumbing problem found in the pre-sale home inspection.
I can't say enough good about these guys! The only problem I had is sometimes they weren't quite as punctual as I had hoped they would be, but also they stayed late to finish some jobs correctly. I plan to use them again when I renovate my condo.
Also, I hired them to come with me during the inspections of properties I was thinking of buying. They saved me from buying a property with a collapsing and improperly supported floor. Recommend them for this type of work, too!

We had several different companies provide estimates, including design and build firms. We met with Mike of GEM Orion and explained what we would like to have done to the area.  We chose GEM Orion because we felt they could meet our design plan, their estimate included all the elements we discussed in our initial meeting, the price was very competitive, and we really liked Mike?s ?can do? attitude along with his friendly and down to earth personality. GEM Orion offered suggestions for us regarding material providers and options (granite, tile, cabinets, glass), but ultimately left the decision to us. We used some of their suggestions, and others, we chose on our own.
Permits were pulled and construction began as planned.  At the onset, we had already had a vacation planned which fell right in the middle of the remodeling schedule. We explained this to Mike and he was completely understanding and willing to schedule around our trip. As the project went on though, we became familiar with Ben (site lead) and we felt that we could trust our home to GEM Orion, allowing them to continue working during the time we were out of town.
Also, while GEM Orion was working on our master bathroom we were working on our own DIY project.  We truly appreciated that Ben and others were willing to answer questions and give us a few helpful tips on our DIY project even though they weren?t directly related to the master bath remodel.
Everyone from GEM Orion was professional and courteous. Ben, the site lead, is a perfectionist.  The tile work done by Ben was nothing short of amazing. We chose a wood-plank looking tile (and to complicate things for Ben unfortunately) of two different sizes. Ben took the time to calculate the placement of the odd sizes so that no joints met across the entire floor space. The same is true for the tile work within the shower, and we also had a river rock/pebble flooring installed in the shower. The result is absolutely beautiful, and we just love it!
We can?t say that the job went 100% error/problem free.  There were some obstacles and or oops moments along the way but all were addressed and resolved to our satisfaction.  
The best part of the whole experience is that GEM Orion was willing to work with us throughout the entire project and to make sure we were satisfied with the end result.  GEM Orion takes pride in providing quality work and we would recommend using them for your remodeling projects.

From the beginning of the project, everything began and remained completely on schedule.  Gem Orion managed the majority of material acquisition, but we were able to add whatever touches we wanted.  In fact, we received no pressure at all to do anything other than what we requested.  They were very knowledgeable about every aspect of the renovation, and patiently answered our endless stream of questions.  The project manager, Mike Lane, was irreplaceable throughout the renovation.  He addressed all of our concerns and pointed us in the right direction for cabinets, tiles, flooring, etc.  He was easily accessible when we needed him to answer questions.
Ben Phillips did the majority of the installation work.  He was meticulous, stayed until the days work was done, and cleaned up after himself.  He was unfailingly polite and courteous.  His dedication to the project is evident in every aspect of the job.  The work is exceptionally well done, and there were no set-backs or additional expenses in the entire project.
Everyone who worked on this project was professional, prompt, and courteous.  We would most certainly rehire Gem Orion again.

Mike and his team handled everything from start to finish.  When we got stuck on design items (for example, choosing a bathroom tile), Mike made helpful suggestions that helped us choose.  He was accessible, responsive, honest and kept us informed throughout the large renovation.  There were three things in particular that distinguished Mike and his team, and are why I would recommend them:

1) Mike's attention to detail was fantastic.  We frequently checked on the progress of the renovation and would notice a minor thing here or there but, even before I could point it out, Mike beat me too it.  In fact, he frequently caught things that I would not have even noticed (and I'm a perfectionist).  This really impressed me, esp. given the amount of work. 

2) Knowing that we were on a budget, Mike was really helpful in suggesting ways that we could stay within our cost constraints without feeling like we were cheaping out, including telling us where we would want to spend more (e.g., the laminate wood flooring we selected), and where we might want to save some (e.g., the tile we could get from Home Depot).  The final project turned out beautifully.

3) As a parent of small children, I was very concerned with contractors coming in and out of my home.  I found Mike and his team to be fantastic.  They went out of their way to cause minimal disruption and they took extra steps to limit the impact of the work (checking to make sure paint smell wasn't too strong and bringing in extra fans to help, taping doors while sanding to keep dust from coming upstairs).  I felt very comfortable with everyone that came into our home to do work, which was one of my primary concerns.   

We really enjoyed working with Gem Orion and Mike in particular (and already have approached him about another potential project in our home).

I recently contracted Gem Orion to remodel the master bath in my home.  Let me cut to the chase and say that I love my new bathroom. The work was done extremely well.  The workers were all courteous and professional.  Everyone involved in the project
handled issues well as they came up.  The project was done in the timeframe that was planned* and for a reasonable cost - especially considering the styling I chose for the tile.  I liked the work and my experience with Gem Orion so much, I have already
contracted with them to do my other two bathrooms. 
I met Mike Lane, the general contractor, when I arranged for an estimate for the job.  I spoke with representatives from other companies, but no one listened as well to my concerns about the existing layout.  Mike considered changes thoughtfully and investigated the structures, plumbing, and electrical carefully before writing a proposal. He then confirmed what was possible before beginning work.
Gem Orion's process is to contract the labor, supply basic building materials, and allow the homeowner to set the design and purchase fixtures, cabinets, counters, tile, and other styling details.  At every step Mike offered suggestions regarding vendors, advice about styling, and kept me informed about the affects certain styling would have on labor costs.  He was also intimately involved in the project, personally going to a vendor with me to work out issues and rolling up his sleeves to finish the job when one of his men was injured off the job.
Each of the professionals Mike assigned to the job was courteous, professional in their dealings with me and my home, and performed quality work. They worked hard to make sure the job was done well and remained on schedule, keeping me
informed about the hours they would be working.  They cleaned up at the end of each day.
As I said, I was so pleased with my experience that I am already working on the styling for my other two bathrooms.  I'd do my kitchen, too, but it will have to wait.
 *In the spirit of full disclosure: We had an issue with tile missing from my order.  Mike and the man who laid the tile were amazing at working around the missing tile and working with me and my vendor to try to find ways to resolve the issue.  It did cause a delay in the job, but this was not in Gem Orion's control and I do not count the delay against them.

We are so impressed with Gem Orion! We had actually contracted with another company to do this work, but they were dealing with injury, and after delaying the start, finally told us they couldn't complete the work and sent us a refund. This was a huge problem for us, as we were adding a bedroom to our basement and had guests arriving in about 5 weeks and REALLY needed to have this room done. We'd worked with Gem Orion in the past but weren't aware that they did carpentry work , so we called and asked if they could help us out. It was a lot of work in a compressed timeframe, so we weren't too optimistic. Gem Orion came out and gave us a very fair quote. They expressed some concern about the short turnaround and didn't make us any promises, but said they would get back to us and do the best they could to meet the deadline. Within a couple of days, they called back and said they would be able to get it done in time.
So on to the actual work - we needed two rooms created from unfinished space in the basement - one kids' play area, which required cutting a pass-through window into the rec room, and one bedroom with a closet. We also wanted a tile backsplash installed in the kitchen.
Gem Orion was fantastic throughout the whole process. They always show up exactly when indicated, and worked long hours in order to get this done in time. Their project management with respect to managing the order of the installation was great - everything arrived exactly when needed or was completed according to schedule. There was very little of the "we're waiting on the flooring to arrive" or "we're waiting to get the wiring inspected" delays that you sometimes see in other jobs - they just coordinated everything perfectly and rolled on through with the work. The quality of the work was outstanding - one of the key differentiators between Gem Orion and other contractors is that they're as excited about making improvements on your house as you are - they treat improvements as if they were occurring in their own household. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding - razor-sharp paint lines, screws in the drywall, very clean trim, and really nice floor and carpet installation.  The owner of the company often comes out and makes visits to check up on the quality of the work (not that this was needed), and we really enjoyed working with all of these guys - they're so nice and open about what they're doing.
It was tight to get all of this work finished, but I'm happy to say that one day before our guests arrived, everything was completed and looking beautiful, and all of evidence of their presence totally removed and everything was as neat and tidy as before they arrived.  I can't speak highly enough of this company - we will absolutely be working with them in the future on any home improvement projects we might have. So we hosted our first Christmas in our new house and were able to have everybody spend the night as planned - and we had a great time! Thank you, Gem Orion - you were really a lifesaver for us!

The work went well.  The job took about three days more than expected because of extra work to fix problems with floor and vent that were not anticipated.  The work was done carefully and the overall quality was as good as I could have expected.

We had the basement bathroom finished which included: -Repositioning the bath drain to the center to create a shower which meant digging up and removing the cement flooring in that area running the drain pipe to the center of shower area and replacing the cement. -Framing the bathroom area and building the walls and ceiling with dry wall and special material for the shower area including spackling, taping and sanding -running wiring to electrical box and wiring bathroom area for ceiling fan, vanity light and outlets. -Tiling shower walls and floor and grouting -Painting walls and ceiling -Install toilet, vanity, vanity top, sink faucet, mirror, shelf, towel bar, vanity light and toilet paper holder -Install plumbing for shower, sink and toilet and shower head -Clean up all debris and remove from home -Make sure customer is satisfied with completed job

We were looking at a time frame of approximately 3 weeks from start to finish. They completed the job in under two weeks. All of the workers were very professional, on time and good at cleaning up. 
I had one squeak a couple of days after they left. I called them, they promptly came back and fixed it.  No squeaks now and a completely level floor! 
This was a big ceiling area to deal with (45 feet long) between kitchen and den.  I think they had to almost rewire everything in my kitchen and den.
I did get two other estimates and both were less than Gem Orion. I chose them because of Mike.  He came out and listened to what I wanted to have done, gave great feedback and suggestions and I just felt very comfortable with him and his ideas.
All of the workers on this project are to be commended. I have already recommended them to several friends who are thinking of remodeling in the next year.

This was my  first experience with a major home improvement project, and I'm extremely pleased with the result. The goal of the project was to update the master bath by tearing out a rarely used jacuzzi size tub, expanding the shower, and replacing the vanity, fixtures, mirror and toilet.  After requesting a quote from 3 contractor's, I received a call from Sheri at Gem Orion. She set up an appointment for me to meet with Mike. He was prompt, personable and had great remodeling ideas. I received quotes from the other 2 contractor's, both of which came in higher.
Professional: It was a little overwhelming trying to find and then coordinate the new materials for the bath...tile, vanity, granite, etc. Gem Orion provided the companies they have accounts with, and I received great service from all of them as well. During the project, the floor/carpet /stairway was protected with a plastic cover to prevent dirt and damage. The materials were staged in the master bedroom and the garage throughout the project, and always left neatly at the end of the day. Sheri, the office manager, was the glue to this project. She kept me informed on everything, from material deliveries, to invoices, etc. A real pleasure to work with.
Honest: The project took a little longer than expected, but that worked in my favor. As the tile I selected for the shower was being laid out before installation, Mike was hesitant to proceed due to the inconsistent pattern. He left the tiles for me to inspect, and he was right....they did not look good. So, I had to select new tile which pushed back the project about a week. The new tile looked even better! I appreciated the suggestions and feedback. It's obvious they cared just as much as I did about the outcome of the project.
Trustworthy: It's not easy leaving the house key and an open house to people you've just met. No worries here. This team was friendly and there to get the job done. 
Overall, I am very pleased with Gem Orion and highly recommend their service. I will call on them again for my next project....my kitchen!

We had written up a bulleted description of the job and had a relatively good idea of the scope of the project. We met with various contractors,listened to presentations, and reviewed their bids and their ratings.  Gem Orion was chosen in good part for their fair price, the comprehensive scope of the contract, and the quality of their ratings.  We were given the chance to use their suppliers, but with some exceptions we provided most of the materials.  This involved a lot of runs to hardware and tile stores, an option only because one of us is retired and involving some problems when the delivery of materials was delayed.  Thankfully everyone involved was flexible.  
As stated above, we were glad that we chose Gem Orion and would use them again for any future projects. 

As usual, Gem Orion did a fabulous job from start to finish.  They were super patient in helping me decide on which doors to purchase and were able to complete the install very quickly.  They always clean up their job sites - it's like they were never there!  I cannot say enough positive things about this company.  Everyone that we have dealt with has been so helpful, honest and just super to work with.  This was the second project we had them complete (master bathroom complete renovation was first and it is spectacular!).  We are so thankful to have found Gem Orion and I continue to look for projects to work with them on - next is the powder room!  Call them if you are looking for an honest group of people who will work with you to make sure that you are completely satisfied with the end results.

The job went very smoothly from the start of the demo to the final shower glass install.  Gem Orion was super helpful to me in referring me to their suppliers for plumbing, granite, tile, etc.  Everyone at Gem Orion demonstrated excellent customer service and professionalism.  We will use them again and again and again.

We hired Gem Orion to install a radiant heat tile floor in our basement and we couldn't be more pleased with both their service and the final product. They were extremely knowledgeable about the install process - more so than the salesman (not affiliated) and made additional recommendations regarding the installation of the self leveler and heating components. Their communication regarding start and stop times was excellent, they were on time every day, and they were neat and orderly. But most importantly, the final result was just outstanding. I would highly recommend Gem Orion for anybody looking for tile installation, and we are planning to use them for additional projects.

Quick, clean, and the product is even better than I had hoped.

I have used other contractors in the past and have been very disappointed with the results. Typically a very pleasant individual would show up at my home, give a very nice presentation and seem to be very knowledgeable. When the work would begin the typical crew to show up would: not speak English, not be able to explain what they were doing and why, would leave a mess, and do what seemed to me to be substandard work.
