The work was completed as scheduled on October 18, 2017. To obtain estimates I selected four contractors from Angie's list, based on reviews and located any available references for each. I contacted all four and asked for estimates. Because I picked one of the busiest times of the year all four were intermittent with their initial communication. This was not an issue for me as I was most interested in quality and not in a rush. Three vendors eventually responded and furnished estimates. One came out and looked at the driveway but did not submit an estimate. Chesapeake was actually the last estimate I obtained as they were extremely busy and I needed to meet with them in the evening. Of the three estimates I received, two were consistent and very close and the third was almost double the other two for the same work (lesson here perhaps?). I selected Chesapeake based on the professionalism of the inspection, company reputation, reviews and their reasonable estimate. Once their inspection was complete I received the estimate quickly and all further communication with the company was timely with quick response. The actual work was scheduled for approximately 10 days after I received the estimate. The crew, led by Mark, arrived on time with what looked like all the heavy equipment in the world. Mark's crew was professional and clearly experienced. They had the old driveway out and the new one in place in 7 and a half hours (three inch + substrate and at least three inches of asphalt. The work was surprisingly quiet and looks to be extremely well done. Everyone was courteous and pleasant throughout. The job site was left looking better than when they arrived and they even curled up the hose I left out. All traces of gravel spillage or asphalt was removed from the street. Overall this job was a '6' on a '5' point scale. Mark took the time to provide a handout and explain initial care for new asphalt. If the driveway lasts as well as the conduct of the job one could not reasonably ask for anything better -- The company was a pleasure to work with throughout.

Overall the driveways look good upon completion. The only reason I gave professionalism a B is because they left some of the asphalt and rocks in the yard which I had to pickup and they even threw some of the extra asphalt behind my bushes (in hopes I wouldn't see it?), and left a couple empty beverage bottles in the yard.

Excellent. From start to finish Ed and his crew were outstanding. We got 6 bids on our job and Chesapeake price was very competitive. We passed over a couple who didn't seem to have a thorough understanding of what needed to be done and narrowed it down to the top 3. Chesapeake won out based price and quality of understanding/explanation of how to address the issue and we're glad they did. Great communication, great service and perfect performance. After the job was done, we noticed that a few of the berms that were removed actually did need to be restored (initially the thought was that they might not be needed with the new grading) and Ed was happy to send someone out to take care of that at no charge. Professional and perfect. Highly recommend!

As I recall Chesapeake had the most reasonable bid.  The person who came out was very professional and knowledgeable.

The crew that did the work had the same professional approach to their work.  They seemed to take pride in their job as they worked a spot over really hard that didn't seem to be coming out the way they wanted it to.  I checked it to be sure and it was just fine when they left.

Needed asphalt driveway replaced in spring 2014.  Contacted several companies for solutions and estimates.  Company was competitive but not lowest bid.  Went with the company because of favorable Angie's list reviews.  They arrived and replaced driveway as scheduled in April 2014.  Once the driveway had dried it appeared to have rough spots and brownish areas (like mulch dust or dirt on top of the asphalt) on the upper portion of the driveway.  I contacted the company representative who came out to look at it.  He said they hand scraped so it may look like that sometimes.  My concern wasn't with the structural aspect of the new driveway but with the aesthetics.  I felt that a new driveway should look like a new driveway.  The company representative said once it is sealed in 12-18 months, which they recommend, I would not notice this slight roughness and discoloration.  After continuing to express my dissatisfaction with the appearance, he agreed they would perform the sealing the next year at no cost.  In June 2015 I again contacted the representative to coordinate the sealing, and I was not charged.  The driveway looks fine now.  I am giving them a B because I believe a new driveway should look new without discoloration or other blemishes.  However, I am satisfied with their willingness to seal at no cost when I asked for that.  I understand any contractor may not do work perfectly all the time.  What sets apart the better contractors is their willingness to work with customers to make them fully satisfied when concerns are raised.  That was done in this case.  Additionally, I have not noticed any structural deficiencies in the new driveway, which is the main thing.

Chesapeake paving did a really excellent job in replacing my old cracked driveway with a better graded, new asphalt driveway. I got 4 estimates for paving from Angie's list, and Chesapeake was one of the two lower ones for a full replacement. The workers came  when scheduled and did an excellent job in one day. They added additional fill to bring up and improve the grade of my driveway. While they did not completely get rid of one low spot, they significantly reduced it. By extending the width of the driveway to the original dimensions and they improving a curve, it is much easier to drive my car in and park it on the side. I would definitely use this paving company again.

.Work was done as scheduled and as budgeted.  Chesapeake showed on the agreed upon dates to repair the existing damaged road bed by cutting and digging up the damaged sections and then refilling these as per the contract.  Work then was done to resurface a 1/3 mile road, with cut ins for 11 + driveway access and connection to the public road.
Highly recommend the company

Exceptional work, at a great price, and completed quickly.

A 5-person crew arrived at the scheduled time.  The two dump trucks, large trailer, a large asphalt paving machine, a small excavator, two small steamrollers, a compactor, a concrete/asphalt cutting saw and hand tools were used by the crew and filled our cul-de-sac and our yard with activity.  The crew worked diligently and efficiently, and were done in about 5 hours.  The efficiency in their coordination of the arrival of new (hot) asphalt in the dump trucks and then loading into the asphalt paving machine shows they have this process down to a science.

The new driveway looks exceptional, with clean, sharp edges sloping down to our grass.  I did not realize how much nicer the house would look with a well defined driveway!

I would recommend Chesapeake Paving for any paving work that might be needed.

Outstanding job! The old driveway had crumbled and sunken and had to be removed. It was amazing to watch the whole process, seven hours total. Seamed very nicely at the driveway/road juncture. No damage to recently installed stone wall by the driveway.

Chesapeake Paving estimator and POC, Joe, reviewed scope of project and forwarded estimate for project.  Project was complicated by poor condition of drive and requirement to extend drive base/asphalt area, which was specified in contract addendum by owner, of driveway.  Chesapeake Paving team and necessary equipment arrived as scheduled.  R/R of asphalt work was completed efficiently and accordance to contract specifications.

Excellent and professional from start to finish.
We found Chesapeake Paving through Angie's List and Washington Consumers' Checkbook.  We retained them to install a new pipestem driveway for our home.  The old driveway had an inadequate base and inferior asphalt and had broken up over the winter.
At each stage, Ed Stanley and his colleagues diagnosed problems and explained the remedies that they would take to avoid a repetition and give us a quality, long-lasting driveway.  The readily accepted our Angie's List coupon, which saved us 5% -- no small thing.  We were provided with a detailed estimate and Ed made clear that he understood how important each element was to us.
On installation day, the crew operated like clockwork and pointed out how they were fulfilling each of the conditions we had identified in the estimate -- deep base, quality asphalt, water resistance, tapered  edges, extra width. It now has been six weeks and the driveway is perfect in every regard.
We got all this for an excellent price -- lower than all but one bid (and that from a paver with no local customers).  Another Angie's List-recommended contractor was 25% higher, and a third came in 100% higher (with a 100% additional margin beyond that (!) -- it was obvious that they did not want the work.)
Chesapeake Paving is exactly the kind of contractor that people look for on Angie's List.  They have earned the highest possible endorsement.

After obtaining 3 estimates, we chose Chesapeake Paving based mostly on it's apparent commitment to quality, and in every way the company lived up to and/or exceeding our expectations. All of the representatives were professional and polite--all very knowledgeable! The new driveway is far better than the old one. The company removed and hauled away the old driveway, rolled and compacted the sub-base, put in 3 inches thick of asphalt up to the concrete entrance to the garage, and tamped driveway edges to 45 degrees. They also dug and evened out the lawn on each side and cut the adjoining sidewalk to be straight and flush with the new driveway. When done, the site was thoroughly cleaned as well--All done in just a morning! This was done a month ago, and the driveway looks perfect!

The initial work in 2012 was been done very well. The work was completed as promised and the driveway looked very good.

My B rating above for Quality is really a result of problems with the driveway post installation. The new driveway began to develop small cracks after two years which were covered by sealing. It developed serious and substantial cracking this year - 3 years post installation. I don't know the cause.

I did get back to Chesapeake to let them know about the problem. They too are not certain about the cause of my cracking. However, even though I am out of the warranty period Brian and Ed did come out and completed repairs at no cost to me. If the problems continue, they offered to come out again and, if necessary, would with me on a solution. I believe that is good customer service and reflects well on Professionalism and Responsiveness.

I chose this company because it had a Super Service Award from Angie's List. I am pleased with the recent good customer follow-up service though disappointed with the cracking.
