Americlean is apparently going through a major transition in the housecleaning services department (separate from the Air Duct Cleaning). They lost their Operations Manager, and apparently she's the only one who knew the routine scheduling, etc. So they didn't show up one day when they were scheduled to clean, and that's how I learned what was going on.
I was informed that my service cost was being raised from $110 to $160. That's almost a 50% increase and I didn't understand it at all -- the person on the phone said that they were charging extra for the distance. I asked to speak to someone about that, and was told someone would get back to me later that day - and no one called. I also scheduled the next 2 cleanings -- off the regular schedule I've been on for years and I asked about the future schedule in 2015 -- could I have my regular slot back? The person said he would try to make that happen, but right now, another client was scheduled in that slot. Of course I was upset about that, but figured that as a long-term customer, Americlean would do right by me.
The next scheduled cleaning was a week ago Monday, and no one showed up. Again, I called the person filling in for the operations manager and asked what happened. I didn't get any answer about Monday, but was able to reschedule for Thursday, Christmas Eve. I also asked to speak to the manager, Richard, about the $50 increase.
Richard called and left a message about the transition-- they are scaling back on the radius of their service area. They would only come out for $160 in the future, and he suggested that I find another service. However, Richard also said in the message that they would come on the next scheduled visit for the regular price ($110).
They did not show up on Christmas Eve and didn't answer my phone calls. (Was the office closed?) Yesterday was Monday the 29th, and the regular person showed up for a visit that was probably scheduled with the stand-in operations manager the first time I talked with him. (Recall -- the 2 no shows last week.) Yes, the cost was $110 as Richard promised. I was both surprised and relieved, wondering if part of the problem was their internal communications.
So, what advice can I give you? If you are in the new radius, you might not have a problem. Obviously, if I stayed with them for >10 years, I was a satisfied customer. But, things change, management changes. I'm most bothered by the lack of straightforward and honest communications about the change in service cost.
I suspect the office will be in a state of change for a few months, at least until they get a new operations manager. I cannot recommend Americlean at this point -- Dec 2014 -- give them a few months.
Richard called the next morning to ask some questions and to let me know his schedule. When his first appointment ran late he was very good about calling so we would know exactly when to expect him. His job was to find the source of moisture causing the mold and to make recommendations on how to fix the problem. He told us: 1) the mold had been in the furnace for quite some time; 2) there was no specific source of water causing the problem [he used an infrared camera]; 3) the mold in the furnace was not causing the mold in the storage room; and 4) our problem was high humidity throughout the house. This was a huge relief, and the fix was fairly simple: remove the moldy insulation from the furnace and get a humidifier to reduce the moisture level in the house to below 55%. Richard recommended a better moisture barrier for the crawl space (he told us what we needed to do), and advised that the vents needed cleaning which we were planning on doing anyway. He was very patient and thorough answering my MANY questions. We did not have mold samples taken (this was not recommended) as it was obvious we had a problem and Richard was able to determine the cause and solution. Plus he was able to schedule the work to be done early the following week.
Eder and Steve arrived exactly on time to do the mold removal and duct cleaning. It took about 5 hours and they did a really good job. The ducts had been cleaned before by another company, but what AmeriClean did far exceeded that cleaning. Their work included the entire system ? all duct work, chambers, blower and fan, heat exchanges, evaporator coils, collector pans, registers and surrounding areas. They were very careful when removing the moldy insulation to be sure the mold didn?t spread throughout the house, and we could hear the high pressure air blasting the dirt from each of the vent openings into their large HEPA filter. We chose not to replace the sound insulation as you will see in the photos. Eder and Steve spoke English quite well, and they were great with our two large dogs (one of which was growling at them for the first hour or so). They did a thorough job and I really can tell the difference in the air we?re breathing now. We got the dehumidifier (Richard told us the size we needed), and in just a few days the
humidity has been reduced by 20-30%.
To sum it up, we thought we had a huge problem that would cost thousands of dollars to fix, and it ended up being a small problem with an easy fix at a very reasonable price. The amount indicated includes the $50 discount we received by using the Angie?s
List coupon.
I have been using Americlean to clean my house every two week for several years. Their worker always arrives on time and the management calls the day before service to remind the customer of their cleaning the next day and confirms what time the service will be performed. The quality of the cleaning is variable and dependent on the individual person cleaning your house. The person performing my cleaning now is excellent and I have told the company to only send this person to my house. In times past, I have almost cancelled my cleaning service because a worker was not very good. I have on those occasions told the company that that person is to never clean my house again and they have honored by request.
We are totally thrilled and we would highly recommend them. This is a time consuming process and they were on site for about 3.5 hrs. This isn't easy, but it's worth it, especially when it comes to health issues.
After researching on Angie's list, and before scheduling, I came to the conclusion that their prices were a good price for a very high quality job. My neighbor with the same model house had her vents cleaned out by a different company and that company did not plug the vents, and now she has to clean up the dust from everywhere. She paid almos t to the dollar the same amount I did.
I would definitely recommend Americlean as a company that does the job right the first time, and charges a fair price.
