In 2023 we had an issue with Generations Hardwood Flooring and left a 1 star review. After some discussions, they made it right and fixed the issue. We can't seem to remove that negative review, but we want their customers to know that they followed through and paid their invoice. It shows their integrity and professionalism.

Generations Hardwoods failed to pay us for materials we shipped them for a lumber order. They purchased approximately $9000.00 of hardwood flooring trim and mouldings and failed to pay. We had done work for them in the past and allowed this order to ship before getting payment. We shipped and invoiced on 4/5/23 and as of 8/18/23 we have not heard back from them. We tried calling, emailing, submitting through their website and Facebook.

We used Generations a few years ago to install engineered wood in our bedrooms/hallway, so it was a no-brainer to call Erik and ask for them to do the refinishing work. They also replaced a couple of sections of wood that were too stained to just refinish. The work was done over two days with minimal mess and odor. Given that the floors were in pretty bad shape, we are more than pleased with the results - they look like new. These floors alone will be a key plus when our house is listed for sale. Thanks, Erik!

Eric, John, Bobby, Jack, and others treated my house like it was theirs. They dealt with my waffling on the stain color, including staining a total of about 12 sample spots on my floor on 3 different occasions trying to find something to my liking. They also were unfazed by the couple of unexpected things that popped up, as they will with any renovation job. They provided a tentative schedule at the start and stuck to it. Having the floors sanded, stained and sealed while you are living in the house is not a painless undertaking, but having them stay on schedule made it bearable because we knew the end date. The outcome of the job dwarfs the inconvenience of the process. The floor is absolutely awesome. There used to be raised metal vents in the floor. Now there are flush-mount, color-matched, wooden vents (see picture.) You don't see them unless you look for them and you won't feel them if you happen to walk on them. The shoe molding is also perfectly matched. There is no difference between the old and new sections (see picture.) Between their "sandless" equipment, sealing off areas, and cleaning up behind themselves, there was no sawdust for me to clean up. (I did have to change out my furnace filters.) Nothing but good things to say. All contractors and home-renovation jobs should be this good.

They were quick, efficient, and professional and completed the job in the projected time frame. We asked them to change transition strips to another shape which we preferred. This was not a problem and the strips were replaced in less than a week.

Initial scheduling proved to be a little difficult, but ultimately we were very happy with the work done. Actual work was done according to the schedule, which was important in figuring out when to stay outside the house. Erik and crew were very professional and made a couple of adjustments as they went without nickel and diming on the price.

The work turned out beautiful and the service was A+. They are truly craftsmen and only employ professionals that take pride in their work. Unfortunately these days you have to pay extra for that level of service. Received non-negotiable quote. They are certainly not the cheapest, but if you value quality I highly recommend.

  1. It went absolutely perfect. Eric (owner) & his team were great every step of the way. We recently bought a new house, and decided about a week before closing to have all the hardwood floors (basically almost entire 1st floor) & stairs either re-coated or refinished prior to us moving in. They were very prompt in returning our call & coming out the next day for an estimate.  Eric explained everything & was very patient with our questions, and offered solutions/alternatives that we either had not considered or were less expensive. He also demonstrated why some floors could simply be re-coated, while others had to be refinished. Additionally, they adapted to our crazy schedule & timeline with ease enabling us to gain use of parts of the house in order to have our things moved conveniently (and less costly). Even after changing our mind 2 days before completion to add in additional shoe (base) moldings, they came through.  They had to replace some boards that had been damaged & put in some new transitions between rooms, and its amazing how well they match and are integrated. This company is wonderful! Erik stopped by to give me an estimate. He was on time and gave honest input. He was able to fit me into the schedule even though he was pretty booked because he knew I was trying to get the house ready to put on the market. His father returned to do the repair and did an excellent job. He matched the color perfectly and I can't even see where the spot had been! He was very nice and I felt very comfortable having him in the house. I definitely would recommend them!

Erik and John were great to work with.  Both very professional and responsive with attention to detail.  Their crew was excellent too.  We are very happy with our new basement floor that replaced old carpeting.  The product we chose to install is a green flooring product made in Sweden.  No toxic fumes or worries, and very easy to clean.  Erik even provided a floor cleaning kit and explained the proper way to use it to keep our new floors in top condition.  We would highly recommend Generations Flooring to anyone looking for quality workmanship.

All workers arrived on time, as scheduled. The carpet was pulled out and removed the first day; the next day the new floor was installed. They carefully taped plastic sheets up so that other rooms wouldn't get dusted. All transition pieces look great, as does the quarter-round they stained and installed. They cleaned up beautiful, and my husband said they even vacuumed the walls!

Jon Sivertsen from Generation Hardwood Flooring was very professional, friendly and always on time. He went above and beyond and was extremely reliable. The work he did was exceptional and for a very fair prince. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him and would highly recommend him to others!

We needed to have extensive wood floor work completed due to a water line break on the second floor of our home.  The floor work included installation of new wood flooring in two large areas of the house and refinishing of all existing wood floors that were not replaced.  The areas where wood flooring needed to be replaced had to be feathered in to existing wood flooring.  When the entire repair job was completed (which included cabinetry, tile work, sheet rock, painting, etc.) we had a home inspector make an inspection as part of the insurance claim and the inspector could not even tell where the new replacement boards ended and the existing floors which were refinished started.  Needless to say, my wife and I are very happy with the results.  We always felt they were interested in taking the time to make sure the job was done right and not just hurrying to get the job done.  They even addressed a few existing floor issues that had nothing to do with the water damage to make sure the end result was superior.  They offer a variety of floor finishes and we opted for a commercial grade water based finish that had very little odor as well as a low dust type of floor sanding.  I would recommend Generations to anyone looking for a high quality wood floor.

They arrived on time.  Jon got there before the rest of the crew and prepped the area by putting up plastic to keep dust out of rest of house and off of cabinets and the like.  The team arrived and split up duties. Half the crew began removing existing hardwood and the remaining crew began the installation.  They were fast, efficient and very courteous.  I had purchased tar paper for the install and the installation crew didn't like to use it because it can mar the walls, so they used their own paper at no additional charge.  They also left me a nice bona cleaning kit.  Jon stayed back after install was done and cleaned floors and removed plastic.  They did a great job and the floors look awesome.  The only criticism, was that they were a little hard to reach when trying to get the job scheduled.  I believe Erik (the owner) was moving so getting call backs was slow.  Once I got his cell phone, we were able to text and he was very responsive on that.

Generations Hardwood Flooring came out & ripped up the carpet in 2 of the bedrooms & installed about 340 square feet of prefinished hickory that I had purchased from a flooring store. Afterwards, they installed some hickory shoe molding that they provided. Everything was done in 1 day & looks awesome. Erik & his crew were very professional & friendly.

Overall, we are very pleased with the work performed by this contractor.  We met twice to get an estimate of the work and then to choose finishes.  Contractor was courteous, knowledgeable and skilled.  The custom floor grates are very attractive and enhance the appearance of the floor.  The sanding was nearly dust free as advertised.  Cleanup at the completion of the work was minimal. New floors look great and are maintaining their luster.  Good contractor!

As an architect, it's suffice to say that I have pretty high expectations from contractors performing work on my own home, and Erik, his Dad and their crew certainly did not disappoint!
Our newly purchased 1960s ranch home had it's original wood floors still in place, although horribly yellowed from the old oil top sealant.  There was water damaged in two bedrooms and areas throughout the home needing patching due to us removing some existing walls.  They did a terrific job patching in.  We had some pieces of original flooring to use in the patching, but it wasn't enough, so Erik had to supplement some areas with new.  After the sanding was completed you couldn't find where the patches were- it was so seamless!
After all the patching and sanding, we went with an Ebony stain (our floors are Red Oak) and the end result was EXACTLY how I wanted- like a dark walnut color.  We decided to upgrade our top coat to the commercial Bona sealant system, since we have 2 dogs and 2 kids- we wanted to protect the new gorgeous floors as much as possible.
A big issue Erik had to address for us was the floor transitions from the existing hardwood to our newly installed tile flooring (which we had done ourselves).  I was very particular with Erik about not wanting the standard lip-over transitions (I've had horrible experiences with them cracking/breaking in the past), especially at our kitchen/great room transition.  Erik and his dad came up with customized solutions to appease my high demands.  And I can honestly say I am thrilled with the results.  They were able to achieve transitions flush with the top of the tile and the end result looks super high end and custom- they look like custom scribed and installed woodwork!
Overall we were simply thrilled with all the work Generations Hardwood Flooring did for us.  I kept repeating over and over to Erik that the floors looked brand new! I am beyond-words happy with the end result.  For people how want the job done right, want a contractor who will tell them the truth, not just what they think you want to hear- then Generations Hardwood Flooring is the company you should hire.  I've never written a review before- but Erik and his team deserve this glowing praise over and over again!

Oh- and the only reason I gave the price category a "B" was because the total cost was higher than I had budgeted.  That being said- Their services we WELL worth the price.  You definitely get what you pay for, and in this case- I got floors that look sparkling brand new!

Erik's company did an exceptional job. Very professional. He took time to communicate all details and involved me in any decisions that had to be made. I cannot say enough accolades about him and Generations. He has long-tenured, professional workers who show up on time and get the job done like they say. Very refreshing in the world we live in now. Use Generations and you will truly not be disappointed.

Came out and measured dampness - unlike any of the other companies providing estimates.  Provided detailed information on repair and refinishing options.  They came out repeatedly to check the dampness.  Repaired everything so that you could not even tell there was ever damage.  Beautiful finished product.

From start to finish, this was about the most stress-free home improvement project we've ever experienced.  When we called Generations for an estimate, Erik not only listened to us as we explained what we were thinking about doing, he asked all the right questions and even made some cost-saving suggestions.  We got two other estimates, both of which were in the same ballpark cost-wise, but we chose Generations because of Erik's professional attitude and his knowledge of the products we were interested in using.  All of the workers who came into the house were respectful and professional.  The new floors look fantastic.  We feel like we've moved into a new house.  When the time comes for us to refinish the older, existing wood floors in our house, we'll definitely call on Generations to do the work.

This is an update to a review that we logged in response to not receiving communication to our many calls for service to be completed.

We were contacted after this review was made public & apparently the breakdown in communication between us & Generation's occurred due to the assistant/receptionist/scheduler being away due to a family emergency.

The work was completed, everyone was very punctual & professional & the floors are gorgeous. They are so impressive that our realtor told us he wanted names & numbers, as he was going to use Generation's for his customer's to have a reputable & proven source to refinish their floors for future listings. And our realtor is not easily impressed, so this is a huge accomplishment & we are tickled. People that come to the house, knowing the previous shape of the floors, are almost mesmerized by the change.

Response from Generations Hardwood Flooring LLC
"Dear Mr. [member name removed]: Thank you for your review of March 13, 2014. I am confused about why there is a completed date of September 1, 2013, when a contract was not written until March 28, 2014 with a start date of March 31, 2014. To clarify the situation, Generations Hardwood Flooring, LLC (“Generations”) offered a “Big Deal Offer” (the Coupon) to Angie’s List customers on December 31, 2012 – January 5, 2013. The Coupon allowed purchasers to have up to 400 sq.ft. (or two rooms up to 200 sq.ft. each) of hardwood floors sanded, refinished with two coats of water-based finish and using a dust containment system for $499.00. This coupon allowed purchasers from Angie’s List to save $500.00 off the regular price of this service. This was a limited time offer and the conditions attached to the Coupon was listed on Angie’s List so purchasers would be informed of the conditions prior to purchasing the Coupon from Angie’s List. In addition, one of the conditions stated “Promotional value of coupon expires 3 months from date of purchase, paid value never expires.” On January 5, 2013, estimate 255 was written based on a site visit with [member name removed] and the estimate was e-mail to [member name removed]. This estimate outline what was included under the coupon purchased from Angie’s List and what additional work was requested. On January 12, 2013, a contract was prepared based on items 1-9 of the estimate, with a starting date of March 4, 2013. Sometime after the estimate was sent, I explained that pets would have to remain out of the area from the start date until at least two days after the last coat of finish was applied. I also mentioned that people would have to wear socks for at least 48 hours after the last coat of finish was applied. Ms. [member name removed] then contacted me by phone and asked if this work could be done at a later date and the contract re-written. I agreed to have her re-schedule to a later date in either March or April 2013. On April 26, 2013, another contract was written with a start date of May 20, 2013, ending on May 23, 2013, and emailed to [member name removed]. After several attempts to reach Ms. [member name removed]and leaving messages, I received no further response from them. From April 26, 2013 until March 28, 2014, I have received no emails from either [member name removed] or [member name removed]. Sometime in March 2014, I did receive phone calls demanding Generations honor the Coupon that you had purchased. While the Coupon did state that the “promotional value of coupon expires 3 months from the date of purchase, paid value never expires”, I agreed to honor the promotional value of the Coupon. After agreeing to honor the promotional value of the Coupon, I found that you had written this review on Angie’s List. On March 28, 2014, estimate 573 was created, using the same information from estimate 255. Although the promotional period of the coupon had expired around March 31, 2013, we still allowed you to have the Coupon value for the work in this estimate. On March 28, 2014 a contract was created with a start date of March 31, 2014 with work being completed on April 4, 2014. I regret that you feel that you were misled by the terms of the coupon, which were clearly stated in the promotion on Angie’s List, and that you were unhappy with our service (although we did not begin any work until March 31, 2014). Sincerely, Erik"
