I cannot praise Quinn's workers highly enough. There were four workers, including the foreman Tony Haasz, and all of them were extremely professional but also very pleasant. They protected our hardwood floors and did their best to minimize dust,
and every day before they left they swept and straightened their work areas. We have an older house (built @1920) so there were a number of surprises, particularly with the ancient plumbing and wiring, but nothing fazed these guys. They clearly knew what they were doing, and everything they touched looked like a million bucks after they were finished. The completed bathroom is absolutely gorgeous - it looks like something from a magazine. I would recommend Quinn's without hesitation to anyone.

On the recommendation of a neighbor, I called the person (Tony) who had remodeled a kitchen for her in which she was pleased.  I left a voice mail saying that I was interested in remodeling two bathrooms, that he was recommended, and that I would like to speak with him about an estimate.  I didn't know at the time that Tony had gone to work for Quinn's Home Improvement.
Several weeks passed with no response from Tony.  Finally, I received a call from Quinn.  We invited him to come give us an estimate.  He brought his designer, Amanda Pitts, with him to review the work.  Even though we thought we might be moving, our bathrooms were dated, and we thought a remodel would help sell our current house.
Over the next several weeks, Amanda worked closely with my wife picking out the vanities, tile, and fixtures.  Once decided upon, we signed a contract for Quinn's to do the work.  We were told by Amanda that the work would take 1 1/2 weeks, and that we would need to stay elsewhere during during that time.  My wife told Amanda that she didn't want the work to begin until it could be completed without interruption.
In the meantime, my wife and I closed on another house.  Amanda asked my wife if she would want to downgrade some of the fixtures since we were moving to save money.  Amanda said that Quinn was agreeable to that if we liked.  My wife agreed.
The work was to begin on Monday, Sept. 2, but after a phone call from Amanda, it was re-scheduled to begin the next morning - Tues., Sept. 3.  Once the work crew arrived, my wife and I went and stayed with family for the next five days.  That following Friday Amanda called my wife and told her that the work would be finished the next Thursday.  After five days of work, both bathrooms had only been taken down to the studs.  The ceiling was not removed.  Plastic had been installed to block the work area(s) off from the rest of the house.
On Monday, no one showed up to work.  On Tuesday no one showed up until 4 PM.  On Wednesday no one showed up until 2 PM.  We discovered that the crew had been pulled off our job to work another job site.  Steamed, I personally phoned Quinn to ask what was going on!  He promised to get the crew back on my job.  In the meantime, My wife and I were staying in a local hotel at our expense and living out of a suitcase.  Of course the work was not complete on Thursday as promised.  In fact, Amanda stopped responding to phone calls or emails.  Instead, we began dealing with Loran, who would relay Amanda's messages... or not!
It was along this time that the plastic barrier was removed inside the house.  As a result, dust from sanding drywall spread to every room and coated all of our belongings.  It clogged our HVAC filter, which has to be changed twice.  The trim paint on the woodwork in several doorways was chipped off as the result of bringing in materials and/or removing debris.  Tape used to hold down construction paper on the floor left marks along the hardwood flooring where it was attached.  Grass was killed in the front yard where they left their trailer sitting for so long, as well as in the backyard where someone dumped paint.
The tile in one bathroom did not go all the way up to the ceiling as agreed, nor was it orientated correctly - horizontal instead of vertical.  Shutters for one bathroom window were never installed, and the contracted 'cubbie' to hold soap and shampoo was not initially installed until we said something about it.  Instead of it being tiled, it was simply boxed in with some composite materials and painted.
The fixtures were, indeed, downgraded, and we were given a price break in the amount of $1200, then charged $850 +- for them replacing "damaged" plumbing and water damaged sub-flooring beneath the tub.  (Plumbing cost to upgrade to current code was figured in the initial estimate.  We were not going to pay twice!)
It took four weeks to complete this job!  It was two weeks before there was a single flush toilet installed that worked.  We had to move prematurely into our new house and sleep on an air mattress in order to have a complete working bathroom.  I don't know what we would have done otherwise. My wife and I feel that our home was disrespected by these workers, and that they treated it like a dump!  We had to hand wash every piece of furniture we removed, as well as clothing and other personal items.  I had to paint the damaged trim, and try as she might, my wife could never remove the strip from the tape on the hardwood floor.
Quinn did meet with us at the house to his credit, and he was agreeable to cost adjustments.  We have closed this chapter.  However, I doubt Quinn's Home Improvement will ever be hired by us again, nor would I recommend them to others.

Quinn's had put on a new roof for us several years prior and we were very pleased with it, so we had no qualms about contracting with him for our new deck.  Red flags should have gone up when he asked for 50% down.  Another red flag should have waved at us when we were told the material for which we had contracted was not available but that he could substitute a material of better quality.  He assured us the job would be comlete within 5 weeks.  It took over a year and a half to get a nearly complete deck.  I refused to make any final payment until Quinn himself came to inspect the project.  He apologized and sent several teams out to complete the punch list - each team worse than the last.  Quinn made one final visit.  I asked him if he were satisifed with the deck since it would be his name associated with it.  I was disappointed when he accepted it; I should not have.  He gave us inferior material, infererior workmanship, and less than stellar customer service.  Our deck is discolored, unsteady in some places, and makes me unhappy and angry every time I step on it.   I am appalled to see that Quinn's has new signs out along some of the local roads.  Whatever you do, DO NOT contract with  Quinn's.
Response from Quinn's Home Improvement

"Our company built a deck for the member. We do request down payment on a project when a large amount of materials are required. We installed a roof for this member and based on a good previous experience they asked us to install a deck. We build quality decks and did have to replace some inferior materials with manufacturer warranty. We wonder why after so many years the member decided to complain to Angie's List without contacting us especially when Angie's List wasn't their lead source. We had a punch list that was taken care of upon completion of the deck. We met with them upon completion and received the remaining payment as a sign of their satisfaction. We never expect final payment until a customer is satisfied. We will contact this member in regards to this posting because we want happy customers."

cticing without a Contractor's License and if he did it again he would be charged with a Felonly.  On Jan. 4, 2013 Quinnn pleaded Guility in Circuit Court that he had done these things to make my mother's house condemnable and to the charges from the Commonwealth of Va. for practicing without a license.  He served 14 days in jail and has a suspended sentence.  If he does any work for five years he will have to go to jail.  This is all public knowledge.  He also has to pay restitution for damagaged done to my mother's house .  He is on Parole for 5 years.  I see on his web site that he now has his young son as owner.  He is teaching his son to be a criminal as well.  Hire any of these people and you will be so regretful.  They are criminals.  As I wrote this is public knowledge.  So Beware.  Do Not Hire anyone with Hershberger or Quinn attached to the name.

I used Quinn's Home Improvement. The work they did was poor. I had a number of leaks and they had to come back 3 or 4 times to fix somethings that were not properly done. We had a leak around our chimney that was real bad. I thought the guy was top notch at the time but, it turns out some of the people he hired to do the work just did a poor job. I would rate him very poor. The pricing was about average. They did come back.
Response from Quinn's Home Improvement

"The roofing crew did their best after several trips to the home of the member in order to find the leak near the chimney. The roof wasn't a quick fix but we kept at it until it was resolved. Our only regret is the member wasn't more satisfied."

I was surprised to find Quinn's crew at work on my roof when I stopped by the house one week. It had been about four years since they installed the roof, so I expected them to just provide an estimate for repairs. I was pleasantly surprised when he called this morning and told me there was no charge because they were correcting a problem that another crew overlooked when they installed the roof. His crew was just doing what should have been done in the first place. It's certainly a pleasure to do business with a firm that's committed to "making it right."
Thank you for the great service!

They were there on time every morning.  Left at dark every evening.  Worked Saturday and didn't stop until the roof was on.  They left the roof "servicable" every night, meaning I wasn't worried about rain in mid project.  I had problems with the roof leaking for years and they found out why.  I would have them install another roof if I ever need one.
As far as the gutters, they(different crew) started as soon as the roofers were done.  Two days later he was done.  After the first rain I called Quinn back about some gutter issues and they quickly came out and fixed them. The whole project took about three weeks to complete but now I have a beautiful metal roof and new gutters.

The room was gutted and we were left with an empty room.  The contractor's that this company had hired found there was no contractor's license for this company and refused to do work at that point.  We lost our downpayment due to this and we were left to find people to do the work for us.  We finally had our main bath back in two months which was difficult being that it was our main bathroom.

The work started by Quinn's Inc. at my home was very unprofessional. While replacing some plywood and the roof shingles they damaged the heat pump unit in the attic. The owner, Quinn Hershberger, suggested that it was not his crew but someone else who did the damage. He did eventually deduct the cost of repair from my bill. When replacing some of the exterior wood trim they used scrap wood that was splintered and tried to repair it with caulking. They replaced my gutters and downspouts improperly. The downspouts are 4" in diameter but they cut 2" holes in the gutters. Also, the gutters are not secure in a couple of locations and they sag in the middle which does not allow for proper water flow. They also left roofing nails and sheet metal screws in my yard and driveway which lead to a punctured truck and lawnmower tire. With numerous legal issues pending against this company I strongly discourage anyone from considering their services.

At first the siding and windows were great loved the color of the siding even though I believed I chose a different color. After the first year the windows were NOT staying UP I would open on cool days to let the breeze In and try to save on A/C. I noticed they wouldnt stay I open then they would slowly close ON THERE OWN. I even suggested this CON to a friend telling them that if they do use him please tell him to stop by and adjust my windows. These windows were sold to me as being TOP of the line and believe the cost seemed to match! supposed to have a 15 yr war. on them so i assumed they would at least WORK! after ONE season. I contacted him and he sent a ELECTRICIAN over to FIX MY WINDOWS!! they are MANUAL not ELECTRIC! and he didnt have a clue to fix them. I asked for ALL my paperwork on the windows i could contact company myself and low and behold HE DONT HAVE paperwork! so now i need to HIRE someone else to FIX my windows to open when i want them open! He wont even answer my calls oh the ONE time he did told me that IF I was NICE to him he MIGHT have helped me out faster!! OMG I PAID HIM!!! HE WORKED FOR ME!! and I expected TOO MUCH!

"Quinn's Home Improvement is currently licensed and insured. We are currently offering a better quality of work than we did 7 years ago. All of the products we offer, windows, siding and roofing, come with manufacturer warranties that vary up to all lifetime. We mail labor warranties to all our customers and make every effort we can to connect the customer with the manufacturer to provide the best customer experience. The experience this member had possibly involved an insurance claim. We appreciate all our customer comments in an effort to make us better."

I had them come out to look at a door for me that I wanted replaced. The guy that came out told me I'd need a custom door since it's an older home and he took measurements then was supposed to contact me back about a quote. I never heard from him after that. I ended up having a handyman do the job and he was able to use a standard sized door and just do a little extra work on the threshold to extend it since it was a little deeper than normal. It probably saved me $1000 to not have a fully customed door.

They started at the beginning of October and the kitchen was not finished until January. Lots and lots of phone calls made to Quinns but very little feedback on what or why there was no work being done. We did pay a reduced price for the job. The original price was 2500$, we ended up paying 2300$. Not everything was negative. A+ on the roof they put on the house in August of 2006. Different crew and project manager I guess.

I was quoted pricing to replace dental molding trim - however, they were not able to identify a source for a replacement and proposed a solution that would re-use the damaged piece. Additionally, extensive follow-up was required to get them to actually FINISH the repair work under the window. A "roofing guy" had to be dispatched. Both jobs were ultimately finished to my satisfaction, but it seemed to take a tremendous amount of follow-up. Pricing, additionally, was not adjusted to reflect "repair" versus "replacement." They were extremely easy to contact and could seemingly work on a wide array of projects.

I could not be happier with the responsivness and quality of the work and materials. We were at our wit's end trying to get a long term roof leak stopped and had already paid 3 different contractors several thousand dollars over the course of 3 years without getting a real solution to the problem. Then when we found Quinn's they were able to determine exactly what needed to be done and they completed the work in one day. We've had more than one heavy rain since they finished the roof work and I can finally sleep at night without worrying about more damage to my interior plaster work. Within one week Quinn's had fixed our roof problem and repaired all the interior damage so that you would never know there was a leak. At the same time we hired Quinn's to do the repairs we opted to have them replace our torn screens on the porch with panels that make it a four season room. I am amazed at how quickly all the work has gone and very impressed with everyone I have been in contact with during the project. I would highly recommend Quinn's to anyone who is in need of a good general contractor.

Also, their salesman had a section of his sales porfolio dedicated to scare tactics of how so many similar companies employ drug users and ex-cons. He assured me that they didn't and did a thorough smear campaign against all his companies competitors, by name. Ironically, in searching my area for registered s** offenders (VA State Police website) I found a convicted child molester working for them!!! CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Very well, despite lots of snow on the roof, frozen ground, etc. Had to wait a couple of weeks to get corners sealed due to melting snow from the roof. They cut our cable line while burying the drain, but it really wasn't their fault, as there was an old cable in the ground they thought was the "real" one Update 09/28/2010: Had some interior improvements planned and called Quinn's for an estimate since I had used them for roofing and gutters. Quinn came out quickly and promised an estimate after 2-3 days. After a week or so, no estimate, so I called him back. They promised to get me the estimate right away. After 2 more weeks, no estimate, no call, no contact. Either he's too busy with other work or didn't want the job I had, either way, his lack of responsiveness is unprofessional and disappointing.

This is really a hit or miss. It depends on who they send to do the work. I had my porch vinyl sided in the Fall and when the heat of Summer hit it started to warp (nailed to tight, no room for movement in siding). They did send someone out to redo, renail essentially and it was fine. They should have sent him in the first place. Windows were ordered a month before remodel. The day before the work needed to be done there I was a Home Depot with installer buying an off the shelf window. They had a month to order my window!!! They sent someone else (at my request) to install a bay window. That went well, but I went to Lowe's to buy the finishing trim. The fence guy is good. So really, I will use them but be wary of who they send to do the work versus the quote guy.

The quality of the work done was inspected by three independent contractors and found to be substandard, including, but not limited to the front wall of the structure, which is 1? inches off plumb; the roofline, which comes above the bottom edge of an upstairs bedroom window and will necessitate its replacement; and the use of tarpaper as the base for a metal roof that instead requires a water and ice shield. The tarpaper will have to be completely removed before the water and ice shield and metal roof can be installed. Total estimate of work completed, including allowance for a healthy profit to Quinn's Home Improvement, was between $20,000 and $23,000, with the latter figure we were told by the estimators being "very generous." Mr. Hershberger failed to pay the subcontractors who did some of this work. When we were contacted by these individuals we paid them--a total of $8000 between them. Deducting that sum from the estimate, Mr. Hershberger only did $12,000 to $15,000 worth of work on our project, yet he refuses to return the remainder of our $35,000 down payment (that's between $17,000-$20,000). We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, at which time we learned that though he had portrayed the company as being a member of the BBB, it in fact has an "F" rating with nine complaints filed against it. The BBB closed the case in January 2010 stating "the BBB has determined that the company's response does not adequately address all the issues or make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute." An additional complaint was filed with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. As a result, ON OCTOBER 19, 2010, THE STATE OF VIRGINIA REVOKED HIS CLASS A CONTRACTOR?S LICENSE.
