Wonderful!! I can highly recommend this surgery. I can read fine print without glasses or contacts. The surgery itself was a breeze - no pain during or after and I didn't have to be put to sleep. Dr. Bowers was very thorough in explaining the surgery to me and what to expect in the weeks after. I feel like a new person- no more glasses or contacts to purchase. Though my insurance did not cover this surgery, it was money well spent and I have nothing but praise for Dr. Bowers and his team.

Dr. Ganser diagnosed her amblyopia and fitted her for glasses and began treating her right away. She was thorough and informative at each visit to her office.

I have been seeing Dr Vogal for several years with my vision issues.  He is a retina specialist (I think) and has managed to improve my site with actions he is very capable and qualified to do.  The whole procedure which includes having his associates do some preliminary work before he sees me goes very well.  Those folks do a lot of business and it is handled very professionally and is well organized.  I highly recommend them to anyone who is having eye issues.

I appreciate the professionalism of everyone at Piedmont Eye.  I worked with a number of technicians before this appointment for a visual field test, as well as for screening and initial optical exam.  Dr Ceballos then had all the information she needed for her more thorough exam as the glaucoma specialist.  She did a dilation and full exam, paying special attention to my concerns with double vision.  She stated that my eyes looked good and healthy, and were just glaucoma suspect for now, but they would be monitored going forward.  She referred me to another doctor both for the double vision and for a contact lens prescription.  She also has me returning on six month intervals for pressures and glaucoma monitoring.

Referred to Dr. Ganser from another ophthalmologist at Piedmont Eye because I was having problems with double vision.  There was a concern that this could be a neuro-opthamology problem and Dr. Ganser is the neuro-opthamologist on staff.  She did a very thorough exam and then determined that my eyes were not working together.  By including prism in my glasses prescription she was able to correct the double vision.  This has really made my life easier, particularly when I am driving at night.  In addition, she provided a new contact lens prescription for me.  Thorough and professional, I appreciate her help.

I have been using them for 5 years. The ophthalmologist that I go to who specializes in glaucoma is really just great. She is a marvelous communicator and she is really excellent. She is probably 5 feet tall, she is really tiny, but she is really good. When you go to one of these eye places, you go through a lot of tests with other people and all their equipment is really up to date which makes the tests go a lot faster and leads to less ambiguity in the results. What is annoying about the place is that every visit really takes a long time. I wait in the lobby and then I see person A who does this test, and then I wait a little more and see person B who does this test, and then I wait a little more and see person C who does the next test, and then I wait a little more and I see the real doctor who will look over all those and does a few more things, and that is about 5 minutes, and by then I have probably been in there over an hour. I call it assembly line. They give me an appointment 6 months ahead and if I miss that, I wonder if I will ever get another one. It's that tight. I think they don't have a huge number of doctors and so if you can't go as scheduled, it's very tight getting appointments. It is a very nice place but it is slow.

I like that they have a doctor who specializes in different aspects of the eye. I have a retina specialist, cornea specialist and a cataract specialist. You don't go to the same doctor and that's what you want. They're so kind and  they make you feel like your'e the only patient that they have. They're very attentive to you. I love the staff, there can be a wait time.

They clearly communicated the process clearly and what to expect. Walked us through the process and the process only took 15 min total! My eyesight was corrected from 20/400 to 20/30 immediately after surgery. A week later my eyesight was 20/15 and has been there for the last 7 years. I recommend them to everyone I know for Lasik.

Response from Piedmont Eye Center Inc
"At Piedmont Eye Center we are committed to offering our patients quality customer service and apologize if you found your experience here to be less than that. Dr. Bowers prides himself in putting patient safety first and foremost. Before performing any eye surgery, he will make sure that it is, in fact, in his patients best interest. When Dr Bowers does recommend a second opinion from Duke, it is a recommendation, not a requirement for the patient to do so. We apologize if that was not made clear. Unfortunately, since we have no direct affiliation with Duke, we have no control over what charge they place on their evaluations. As you know, Dr. Bowers performs his full medical evaluation for LASIK to his patients FREE of charge, while most practices charge for these exams. Since these evaluations are solely for the purpose of LASIK, we typically do not prescribe for glasses or contact lenses from this exam. Please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions concerning your last appointment, at 434-947-3984 and ask to speak to our clinical administrator."

I picked this group because they were rated the best in Lynchburg. I think a smaller office / environment would suite me better. I like to get to know the staff, but it was too busy and fast paced for me. It may be fine for others.

The doctor I see for glaucoma is very aggressive in preventative care and very skilled in her medical knowledge. She's the only glaucoma specialist in the area.

I have been seeing Dr. Vogel for a couple of years for an ongoing issue.  During each visit he has been personable, informative and professional and is willing to answer any questions I may have without making me feel rushed.  I will definitely keep seeing Dr Vogel for future needs.

Dr. Vogel was very thorough and didn't rush, though he definitely has a businesslike manner. The workflow of the practice and the physical layout is a little awkward because you move to several different waiting rooms and see more than one lower level staff member before getting to the doctor (refraction, pressure exam, eye dilation, etc.), but the staff are all friendly and lead you through the office very pleasantly. Dr. Vogel explained my condition carefully and had already reviewed my records with a colleague before my appointment. He didn't push me into aggressive treatment but acknowledged that other specialists might give different advice, and was willing to help me get a second opinion. He is very straightforward, which suits me well but might strike some people as too abrupt.

Overall a good experience and I would recommend the practice to anyone looking to have Lasik done. The consult to see if I was a candidate was done for free and I was given a small discount because I had vision insurance. Insurance does not, however, pay for Lasik (or at least mine doesn't).
I had a few weeks wait between the consult and the procedure. I have had several follow up appointments since then and there is no additional charge for those appointments.
Lasik is something I wish I had done years ago. It is wonderful to be free of glasses!

Liked working with Dr. Bowers.  Office is very efficient, with good staff and communication.  I had one far-sighted eye and one near-sighted eye, so he did something called mono-vision.  Worked out well.  Great improvement, but not as much as I had hoped, so he did a "touch up" after one year to improve reading.  This helped.  (Touch up was included in original price, if required.)  Pleased with service and vision.
