In fairness to mortgage lenders and brokers, I think that the sub-prime mortgage crisis caused increased scrutiny, more stringent standards for mortgage applicants, and more red tape for mortgage lenders. Having said that, I expect a basic level of communication / responsiveness, conscientiousness, and transparency from a mortgage lender. Mortgage Atlantic did not meet these minimum basic standards, but after an excruciating process, I eventually obtained a mortgage through them (which was immediately sold to Carolina Bank, which was immediately sold to Wells Fargo).
