I had scheduled a meeting with Dan Vollmer to see our home and talk about price. That day, he didn't show up or call me to say he would not be able to make it. I was kept waiting until I called him and he said he forgot about it. He said he wrote it down on one calendar and not another. It's frustrating because you have worked hard to get the house ready by cleaning from top to bottom and staging it to look nice then the realtor does not show up.
When he did show up to talk about price, he gave us a really low price and said it might not sell in this area for a year or so. We had only lived in the area about 1 year and didn't know what to expect. When I looked at other homes online, our family home did not look in the price range he was suggesting. Plus we had about 1 acre lot to go with the house.
I had asked Dan to come over and take pictures on a sunny day as we felt the pictures for the internet would look much nicer if it was a bright sunny day. He came over on a cloudy day to take the pictures.
Thankfully, my family told us to raise the price of the house to what would be reasonable (we were planning to split the proceeds between 3 siblings). AND it sold within 2 months after placing it on the market. Dan seemed like he was shocked that it sold so quickly.
Now, 4 months later he is contacting me about follow up on repairs regarding the house we closed on 4 months ago! He spoke to my brother-in-law to negotiate repairs that need to be done on the house that was not done correctly the first time. He was at the house and let the contractor in to do the repairs, but never followed up to be sure they were done correctly. These repairs could have cost $3,000 and he wanted them split between the 3 siblings. So each of us would pay $1,000. He never called me about this, emailed me or anything. Now that the repairs are complete, at a cheaper price, he contacts me to pay up on my share of the bill.
All along I felt like he was not working with us and explaining things as we went through this process. A professional office we were working with at the time also commented to me on his lack of participation (except on closing day when he was there to get paid).
This is just my 2 cents but, I would not recommend Dan Vollmer as a realtor if I had to this all over again. You need someone who will be on your side and work with you through the entire process -- not just the day of closing.
"I am truly sorry you feel this way... throughout the transaction I felt we had a good working relationship. In coordinating efforts among the 3 sibling owners of this property (who lived in 3 different states), my desire was only to serve this family. I enjoyed meeting your sister here in Lynchburg, and found your brother-in-law in Ohio to be incredibly helpful. I wish you and your family much success in North Carolina."
