It went really well. They finished quickly, cleaned up after themselves and did not leave any mess.

The people there are always friendly. I haven't had them perform services at my house. But I do go there when I'm in need of purchasing some plants, small trees, and bushes. They are always helpful when asking advice.

They are awesome. They're in our neighborhood, that's how I found them. They are great. They've done several projects for us. As a matter of fact, I just got a quote for another one for us. I would highly recommend them to anybody. They are wonderful to work with. They're really nice people and very helpful. We're getting ready to do some more work with them this summer. Their pricing is reasonable. They're not cheap but they do really good work. The only hesitation is that when we had some other major stuff done, we had ran into weather and all that stuff, which was really understandable.

I was surprised to see a "D" rating for this company, as I used them a year ago (believe they were not on Angie's List when I had the work done) and was very happy with their service.  Jeremy was my designer; he came out to look at the flower beds and discuss with me what I had in mind and my preferences.  He came up with a design and sent it to me, soliciting my feedback and welcoming any changes either to plants or the design that I wanted to make.  I was doing this for a graduation party so needed it to be done soon, which they accommodated (for a slight surcharge).  Two plants were not available at the time so they even substituted something else on a temporary basis so it would look nice for the party.  When the plants in the design came in they came back and exchanged them for the permanent plants.
Then came the harsh winter of last year.  Several of the plants looked very bad, so Jeremy came out to inspect them in the spring of 2014.  He thought they would be OK so advised me to wait to see what happened.  Most of them came back, but two eventually died. in the heat of the summer.  Silverbrook told me to come out to pick out two replacement plants and didn't charge me a dime, even though the one-year warranty had just passed.
I have even emailed Jeremy for care advice now and then for the plants and he has kindly responded.  I will definitely use this company again, and have recommended them to my neighbors.  I felt they were much more attentive than some of the big landscape firms I have used in the past.

Each project was done with considerable professionalism, efficiency, and most importantly, with quality.   In fact, my home won the "Best Home" award soon after the patio and landscaping was completed.  This last effort occurred late on Friday afternoon.  The two man crew arrived about 4:00PM.  At that point, I was a bit disappointed thinking they could not finish the job in the daylight and that a Friday afterrnoon effort would be second rate.  But I was surprised.  Both workers enthusiastically set about their business and then were joind by another crew.  They finished using hand flashlights.  In the morning I checked out the job...they did a beautiful job exceeding my expectations.

I worked with Irene on the design and selection of plants over several months.  She was extremely patient in working through various ideas and in making alternative suggestions.  The overall result was fabulous - all my neighbors have complimented the work.  It was completed in one day, and work was totally professional.  When I had my heart set on a particular type of Boxwood and Silverbrook could not find it from their suppliers, Irene went with me to a place where I had seen them and bought them there.  I enjoy seeing it every day and look forward to what it will look like in spring and summer.

Silverbrook did a beautiful job recreating our front walk and landscaping. After a horrifying experience with a dishonest contractor who left our front yard a mudhole, Silverbrook demonstrated artistry, professionalism and promptness. The estimate was provided by a landscape designer (Jeremy) who sketched out a true vision for what we could do by completely redesigning the walk and landscape. The estimate was not the cheapest we received, but it was by far the most visionary and clear. The work began ahead of schedule (as a result of their sympathetic recognition that the mudhole left by the previous contractor was an eye sore) and throughout the work, Jeremy was willing to adjust the project to meet our goals, both financially and in terms of the design. For example, an extra row of flagstone was added adjacent to the driveway to expand the driveway that doubles as a basketball court for our sons. The finished work exceeds our expectations (and looks far better than the design we originally envisioned). Neighbors have come by specifically to compliment the new look and we have a more functional and aesthetically pleasing walk/yard.

Jeremy, the designer, came to the house to give ideas and suggestions. Created a sketch as we talked. Suggested materials that were in line with our price range. Based on that, he emailed and estimate. A few weeks later, we paid the deposit and work began. The porch and landing went fine. The subcontractor who did the work erroneously made the walkway 3 feet wide instead of 4 feet wide. Jeremy came to the house to work with the subcontractor to find an acceptable resolution. When it came time to select plant material, we started based on the suggestions Jeremy had drawn up during the consultations. We made a few changes based on my preferences, but were still able to find plants that would require minimal upkeed and that would tolerate shade. The retaining wall was built next. There was a place where the wall could have been heightened to follow the contour of the yard by just stacking flagstone higher, but instead a large decorative stone was used. It gave the wall so much more appeal! The dirt was removed and replaced and the new plants went in. A few small last minute changes were made just to even things out, but overall it looked like the original drawing, only better. Upon request, Jeremy emailed me written instructions on how to fertilize each plant and other instructions for their care. He also came out to inspect the work and to answer some questions for me.

I chose this company because they had done good work for my neighbors. The working crew on my job did their job well -- they were on time, they were polite and careful of the property, did not leave debris and the work they did was satisfactory. The subcontractor they brought in to chip the wood to be removed was also good. My problem was with the estimator/manager of the project, Brian. It started when he visited for the estimate. He indicated that he needed a week to give me an estimate but it took three. He had agreed to send me the estimate by e-mail (easier for me to access while traveling) but he sent it by snail mail (twice on the same day). We made an appointment to meet at the nursery to view some plants that I was considering for them to install per his recommendation and he wasn't there -- finally located him in a distant, unmarked building after waiting in high summer heat for half an hour. When he came to view the proposed job site once again because I felt clarification was needed, the estimate doubled (not necessarily unfair if everything that needed to be done were done but why didn't he listen the first time?) When the workers did the job I asked them to check with Brian and then remove the remains of an additional tree that had fallen since the estimate. (I fully expected him to bill me extra for this since it was not part of the estimate but I would have liked a call from him so I would know how much it would cost.) When the workers were finished, I pointed out to them that there were three things that were part of the (doubled) estimate that had not been done. They indicated that Brian was not reachable and had not told them to do these things. I called the nursery and tried to have him tracked down -- I was not prepared to have them come back another day and thereby to lose another day from my work. After several tries they managed to track him down and he arrive within 25 minutes. He seemed confused about the two items and I told him to consult the second estimate he had provided which listed them. He instructed the crew to go ahead which they did. He seemed annoyed and confused. He barked out "I'm going to charge you $300 for the extra tree the men removed". I had expected to pay perhaps half that amount, but let the matter slide because I did not want the crew to get into trouble. I paid and simply decided on the spot that I would not use Silverbrook for a second job, larger job that Brian had estimated for me in another part of the property. Again, the crew was professional but the coordination provided by the estimator/manager was bad. He was too distracted and forgetful to do a professional job.

I put the deposit down in the fall of 2009. The preliminary work was done in November and then the winter of 2009/2010 hit and work halted until the spring. As soon as the ground thawed, we were first on the list. The men who installed the patio were true craftsmen. They handcut the slate to fit the shape that was outlined on the plans. They stacked the stone completely level to form a sitting wall partway around the finished patio.

Silverbrook was great. The yard looked beautiful, well manicured. Just a little slow on calling us back with the estimate at the beginning of the season.

I contacted Silverbrook Nursery because it was close to my home. I also contacted 2 Angie's List award winners and conducted an initial walk through with each designer. I had to pay $50 for 1 designer's time however they provided an immediate high level statement of work and estimate for detailed CAD drawings. The other 2 designers then returned on their own to do a detailed survey of the landscaping work. The 2 Angie's List businesses provided high level descriptions of the work as they understood it and a high level cost estimate. Silverbrook provided a detailed cost itemization of the labor and materials as well as a very helpful sketch. I invited the Silverbrook designer back to explain his concept, answer specific questions and make revisions as necessary. I requested references and found their feedback extremely useful. My wife and I then did a final walk through to understand the final plan and make last minutes adjustments. The landscape crew arrived within 2-3 weeks and performed the work within the expected 5 day duration. The designer then returned to make sure everything was satisfactory and note any adjustments to the work. I pointed out a wheelbarrel track beside a neighbor's unit and and the desgner readily agreed to correct the track with aeration, seeding and peat moss cover. He wanted to make sure that everything was right. Overall, the work was very well done, performed professionally and according to plan and cost. The level of detail provided before the job started and the followup at completion was excellent. I would hire this business again and recommend them to any neighbor or homeowner in the Northern VA area.
