GUNSTON ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Veterinarians, Animal Grooming, Animal Boarding Kennels,

About us

Established in 1989 Gunston Animal Hospital was opened in 1989 under the supervision of Dr. Knipling and Dr. Kent Olson. It has been a stable business in the Gunston/Lorton area since its inception, and it is anticipated to grow with the surrounding community. The hospital became a Noah's Ark Animal Hospital in August, 1999 when Drs. Terri Levinstein and Allison Mayo purchased the facility, bringing to it fresh prospective and new ideas for client service.

They do some sedation grooming. It needs to be sedated. He does not like going to the veterinarian and when they approach him with clippers, then he's like oh no huh uh. It's once in a blue moon so they have to do an additional wellness check and the blood work on him. The sedation runs up to $100 depending on how much they need to sedate him.  The grooming work that we have done, it's called the lion cut, they basically shave him and wash him. They take all his nice long hair and they cut it all off except for his paws, tail, and around his neck and up. That's because his hair gets matted.  They do it about once every 3 years, 2 or 3 years. It's $60 something for the grooming which is the hair cut and the wash. Then up to $100 on the sedation. A wellness check is about $80, which is basically a physical. I don't recall how much the blood work is. He is an older cat, so he requires some blood work to make sure that he is going to survive the sedation. They're very careful with the animals. They used to be our regular veterinarian for a lot of things because we used to live practically across the street from them, but we moved farther away. I would give them an A because of the care and concern they take to make sure the animal is going to be safe and healthy. They are less expensive than a lot of the places up here that are close to us and it's not a service that everybody does. Very few people actually provide that service. I don't have any complaints. They're pretty good about when things need to be done getting the animal in quickly to be seen. He is about to go in and our wait was 10 days because it is a non critical procedure so that's reasonable. In some cases for this particular procedure that's relatively quick.  It's hard to get in unless you are going to pay a lot more than they charge. We can go down the street here, almost walking distance, but it would be doubled what they charge. It's about a half an hour drive for us but it is worth our while. If you go to some of the other places, they won't do sedation anything on cats. None of the big chains will do it.

Gunston Animal Hospital did a great job boarding my two dogs. They provided kennels so that the dogs could be next to each other. It was obvious that the staff loves animals and I felt comfortable leaving them. Upon returning, the dogs were happy and healthy. Even the old dog appeared energetic and engaged. I highly recommend this team for boarding.

My dog was on the verge of having some serious problems and he is better now. The service is very friendly and they are very accommodating. At some point when they realized we were spending a lot of money, they worked with us on pricing.

You can really tell that Gunston Animal Hospital loves animals and they work very well with my dog's allergies. The veterinarian at Gunston Animal Hospital did a lot of research in order to be able to work with my dog's problem.
