I switched vets and am much happier as a result. I also discovered I was not alone.

If you want a vet that completely ignores their veterinary
oath, this is the place to go. In order to ?teach an owner a lesson? they will
stop treating your pet, even if they need regular medical attention. Don?t let
the ?niceness? fool you. They were providing care for one of my pets. I arrived
one day to pick up a prescription and was handed an envelope. Within was a note
saying, without explanation, that they were refusing to provide medical care
for my pets from that point on. I tried to get an explanation- none was given. My
pet was in the midst of long-term care needing regular check ups, blood work,
and ongoing medications due to having a stomach tube. The last contact I had
with them was on the phone with me begging for help in finding my pets prescription
food. It was out of stock everywhere. Somehow me being in a frantic search for
food was enough to get us booted. Apparently, if they suddenly decide they do
not want you as a client any longer, your pet gets to suffer the
consequences--your animal's health be damned. I guess that?s why they are
always looking for new clients. I should have known when, in the very first
visit when I mentioned seeing reviews, I was cautioned to ignore a particularly
harsh one. Maybe that should have been my red flag. The second red flag was the
multiple times I was forced to drive to Leesburg for care because they would
claim to be ?uncomfortable? performing common medical procedures on my pet. So
my pet's medical care has been delayed while I try and find another vet to see
him--not to mention the added stress on my pet having to adjust to yet another
vet. So much for being the compassionate animal lovers they claim to be if they
will risk the health of an animal to ?punish? the owner for some unknown
perceived slight. The silver lining for me is that this uncaring attitude
towards pets has come to light. I will be sharing my experience with the
entirety of the local area. For those who would say they ?love? this vet?just
wait until the day you do or say something, unbeknownst to you, which they do
not like. They will drop you like a hot potato. If your pet dies because of it,
they could not care less.

Our little dog had a terrible ear infection. We had used one of the large cookie cutter vet centers previously but decided to try Lakewood Animal Hospital in that it was new to our area and close to home. What a wonderful experience. They treated our little guy gently and lovingly. The vet, Amy Olson, showed true concern and tender care during her exam and cleaning out the swollen shut ear. Our dog hates getting touched in the rear and she put him at eas enough to get his temperature and do a heart worm test without him getting and quot;all riled upand quot;.
They quickly ran lab tests to determine the bug our dog had picked up and the vet ordered up the required meds to fight the infection.
Much to our surprise the vet called us the next day to inquire how our dog was doing and if we had any questions. Now that is caring!
We just took him back for his recheck after completing his meds and he is doing great!
This is the best vet experience we've ever had. We highly recommend taking your pet to Lakewood Animal Hopsital. After all, your pet is a member of the family - right? So take them to a place that cares and shows it!

We can't say enough good things about Lakewood Animal Hospital in Locust Grove, VA.
Dr. Amy Olson owns and runs this Vet care facility. It is clean and neat and we always feel welcome when we take our dogs there.
Dr. Olson is a loving and caring person towards animals and handles them gently and with care.
Her staff does a great job too. All of them are very friendly and always go out of their way to comfort our dogs while they are there.
We highly recommend taking your pet for Dr. Olson to care for!

Late last year, our female dog stopped eating and developed GI problems. Lakewood Animal Hospital had just opened, so I decided to give it a try.

I left our first appointment with Dr. Amy Olson feeling that I had found an individual very current in her knowledge of veterinary medicine. But it soon became evident that I had found much more: a dedication to our pet’s well-being unlike anything we had previously experienced. Let me give you one example.

Dr. Olson quickly diagnosed the problem as protein-losing enteropathy (PLE). Our dog improved on prednisone for a short time, only to have a serious relapse that resisted further treatment. Dr. Olson then took it upon herself to identify one of the nation’s foremost authorities on PLE and began corresponding with her about our case. We tried several of the expert’s recommendations, also to no avail. Then she suggested that we double the dose of Atopica. I will never forget the day I administered two pills instead of one. In the morning, the dog looked terrible—in fact, close to death. By evening, she was wagging her tail and looking for something to eat. Six months have gone by, and she’s still doing remarkably well.

Calamity struck again in the summer, when our male dog tore his anterior cruciate ligament. Dr. Olson advised us that he needed surgery. She recommended a vet in Northern Virginia who has extensive experience with ACL problems. Unfortunately, his expertise carries a high price—more than $3,000 for the required surgery.

At this point, we had complete confidence in Dr. Olson and asked if she would do the surgery herself. She agreed to perform a procedure that is simpler than the one used by the vet in Northern Virginia and estimated the cost at $1200. Recovery, she said, would take three to six months. Actually, the bill came in about $50 below the estimate, and the dog recovered fully within two months. Between the surgery and medication that Dr. Olson prescribed for his severe arthritis, he is happier and more active than he has been in a long time.

Dr. Olson and her superb staff have earned my highest recommendation. This is a very special place.

Everything went extremely well. Everyone is the office is very professional, yet not stuffy. They are all very down to earth and easy to talk to. Dr. Olsen sometimes calls you at home to personally check on your pet. Her assistant always calls a couple days later to make sure you understood everything and that your pet is doing well.
