The entire process was very smooth. Our salesperson, Kevin, did a great job helping us select carpet that fit our needs, budget, and style. Installation was quick and efficient. We will use them again when we replace other flooring in our home.

Knew best way to order the areas so the work would flow efficiently. Knew best way to cut carpet to create invisible seams in largest areas, without wasting carpet. Knew best way to use carpet to avoid waste. This includes the foreman and all the carpet layers. Answered all questions clearly and quickly. The job went quickly and without problem.

We were very pleased with the selection and suggestions made by the sales staff. The installation work was done very well. Sterling Carpet used a subcontractor to do the tile work which was done over a two-day window and their own staff to lay the hardwood floors over a three-day window.
The floors have been in for about a month and we do have one quality issue (floor sounds) that we will be discussing with them but I am confident it will be resolved. (if not, I will amend this review).

So far so good. Flooring will not be installed for at least a month but pre-sales has been excellent.

We talked to several sales people over the course of our various projects. Each one was patient and incredibly helpful. At times they led us away from an expensive choice to one that was more durable or cost effective. For example, we had a small room to do in a DC rental location. The sales person led us away from the custom stuff we were looking at and over to the remnant section, where there was a neutral remnant that would fit perfectly given the size and also the color of the room. So, big savings. They were also on time and professional each time they came to do an install. These are lovely folks who have been in the business for years. I trust them.

From the moment we entered the store to the moment the carpet unrolled on the Family Room floor, the experience with Sterling Carpet was wonderful. The initial salesperson, Ken, took us through the myriad of options, paying careful attention to the specific needs we wanted to meet (color, quality, size, longevity, etc.) and clearly answering questions. We left with samples that focused in our choices. We had previously (and after our visit) looked elsewhere and done cost comparisons. Our assessment indicated that this was the quality and cost and carpet choice for us. When we returned to make the purchase, we visited with the owner, Winston: another salesperson who deals with area rugs, Jerry; and Jimmy, who assisted us with the rug and felt rug pad purchases themselves. (Along the way we had learned that when going over hardwood floors, that felt was the preferred option, however some other carpet places do not offer/explain that.) Sterling Carpet kept us informed of the expected arrival of the carpet and delivered it and the pad well within the estimated time frame. The delivery person, Ricardo, was also so professional and capable. And finally, when I called to make the COD payment, the account manager, Virginia, was equally excellent to deal with.
We had never been to Sterling Carpet before, but we will definitely shop there again and recommend it to our friends. Not only do they clearly care that they have satisfied customers but they take all the steps to ensure it happens.

Sterling Carpet is my go to business for any flooring need. They have installed flooring in almost every room of my home. Everyone is always extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Scheduling was very quick and installation was superb.

Terrible experience with Sterling, and I would warn others not to use this company. After the company's representative showed up to look at the job I needed, he said he'd call me the next day with an estimate. He never did. His whole attitude seemed to be that he didn't care if he got the job or not. I had to call him and ask for the estimate. I agreed to the price. When the worker came to do the job, he removed the carpet, padding, and some of the tacking. But he ended the job and left my apartment with LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF STAPLES AND NAILS STILL IN THE FLOOR. He was supposed to remove all of them. I had to go around removing the staples and nails myself (some of which are still in the floor weeks later because I can't get them out) because my niece and her friends were coming over later that day to play. This company's negligence is breathtaking -- they leave nails and staples in the floor, which can seriously harm adults, and goodness knows what the exposed nails can do to the feet of playing children. When I informed the company's representative of the problem, he didn't offer an apology or offer to remove the staples -- he just mumbled some nonsense. This guy just didn't care. HORRIBLE COMPANY. DON'T USE THEM.

Sterling Carpet has integrity and great service. They've been doing business in the area for decades. Being new to VA, I like that.
Initially we had a sales person who was terminated during the course of the time we were working with her. She was nice, but not too helpful aiding with decision making.
Kevin, the owner took over dealing with us after the other person was let go. I'd made a carpet decision on my own by this point & was thinking about Home Depot as I'd found the same carpet there and they promised a quick order and install.
Kevin at Sterling was responsive and helpful and did exactly what he said he'd do. He gave us a great price and got the carpet faster than Home Depot was going to do at around the same price (slightly better). Installation was done by a great technician who was really detailed and good. He's apparently worked with Sterling for years. He made a great suggestion to me about my runner that really improved it's final appearance and installation.
I cannot say enough good things about Sterling Carpets compared to my impersonal and poor service experience with Home Depot (HD had different people you dealt with for everything and no consistency. Their people were very poorly trained in information about the carpets as well.) I've learned that most of the carpets for sale across U.S. are made by one of 2-3 companies. They just "rename it" so it makes it hard to compare between vendors. However, I drilled down and got apples and apples compared at the end and Sterling Carpet was as good as if not better in price than the SAME Shaw carpet from Home Depot. And, I got a consistent real person to deal with - who came to my house, answered my email and phone calls.
I'd definitely use this company again for flooring, installation or carpet.

After waterproofing our finished basement we decided even that insurance would not allow me the peace of mind to reinstall carpeting. I've used Sterling Carpet many times and they are very knowledgeable and no nonsense in their recommendations. They had our measurements on file (they installed the carpet that had to be removed after the Irene flood). Jim told me about a new product (Clickwerks) that was eco friendly and great for basements in that it was a click together vinyl style that can be pulled up and relayed several times if it ever gets wet. Hurray! They were patient while I got the other work needed done (walls, baseboards and painting) and installed on my schedule in one day. The product is beautiful and I am very happy.

Gerry Fried must be one of the most knowledgeable people in this business. If you show the interest, he will gladly share this knowledge with you. We did a serious job of research and shopping. We received a far lower bid from a competitor. Gerry and Winston went over both bids in detail with us and persuaded us that a high quality job could not be done for the lower price. Sterling's installer, Bill, was as good as they told us he would be. We are glad we chose Sterling to do this work.

If I were to use this company again, I would insist on getting one of their installers - NOT A SUBCONTRACTOR! They do use them, or at least did in January. The business seems well run, has a lot of selection, the staff is friendly and nice. The owner, Winston, personally came out to measure and give me an estimate on the work. I was looking for something that looked nice, but was inexpensive, because we were preparing to list our house for sale. I was very specific that I wanted a z-bar used for installing the carpet (carpet folded under - no threshold) because the carpet transitioned to hardwood at one door and tile at another. He said he wouldn't do anything else under those circumstances and noted it.
Within a week we had set a time for installation and the installers showed up promptly as expected. They set to work and didn't really want to interact much or talk. I asked them a few questions and they weren't really ready to discuss in their response. They were clear that they were only there to follow orders. They didn't remove the quarter round around my wood trim in the bedroom and I suggested that maybe they should? It might look funny if they didn't? The one guy who spoke better English just kept saying "You want I remove the wood? I will!" In the end he didn't and they went back to work. They were fast and pretty neat (they made a mess with padding and carpet scraps on the stairs, but a quick vacuum took care of it.) I had a 3 month old and a 2 year old I was taking care of downstairs, otherwise I would have checked on their progress. When they were done and I saw the job I nearly cried - actually, I think I did a little. The carpet looked and felt good, but they had perfectly installed hideous bright gold thresholds in both locations. They looked gaudy and cheap and would have transitioned well to a 1980s kitchen linoleum floor. We were supposed to be listing our house for sale the following week and I panicked. I tried to explain to them the z-bar, but they didn't know what I was talking about, not even in Spanish, which I speak fluently. I asked to see the work order because I had seen Winston note the z-bar. I couldn't find it at first and then I noticed that a summary of the work had been stapled over the "Special Instructions" section, which clearly stated a z-bar was to be used at both thresholds. Well, they didn't have a z-bar, but they said they could remove the thresholds and fold the carpet under. So I said okay. They took another hour and a half and because they had already cut off the carpet too short for use with a z-bar (which folds the carpet back under itself) they gave me a wavy messy threshold with sparse fibers on the fold that was further back than ideal from the threshold. It looked like I had done the work myself. They also damaged my hall wood floor further in removing the threshold (which wasn't perfect anyway, hence my need for carpeting!) (See photos) It looked just awful. They kept pushing me to sign the acceptance letter so that they could get paid. I was really, really upset and didn't want to sign it, but they just stood there looking at me and wouldn't leave. So I did. Then I called Winston immediately. He sounded upset and said that he would make it right. I got a call back later from someone else who was very nice but said he couldn't send his technician out that day. (He wanted to send the technician out right away, but my children were napping, and since they had already missed both of their morning naps and were absolutely desperate to sleep it didn't work. Their technician left work for the day mid-afternoon and wasn't available until Monday). This was a Friday. I was supposed to leave the following day to see my father for his 65th birthday. Instead I stayed home and waited for their technician to come on Monday morning and wasn't able to make the family dinner for my father's birthday. Ricardo (I think was his name) was very nice and very skilled. He really had to stretch the carpet and cut it back even further (!) and it was so thin that you could feel the tacks underneath when you stepped on the threshold barefooted. But he made it look pretty professional (except that it was no longer lined up with the threshold) and I was selling my house, so I didn't feel like it needed to be perfect. If I were going to stay there I would have asked them to change out the carpet in the main entry because it did look bad. I didn't think it would deter a home buyer though and the disruption for me didn't seem worth it. I did later notice a piece of debris under the carpet. It was a hard spot in the middle of the carpet, but otherwise it was a good job. No visible seems and the quarter round didn't look terrible - just odd. I like using small business owners and I think I might use them again, but this taught me a lesson to NEVER allow subcontractors when having work completed!

Sterling Carpet did an excellent job on all of the activities listed. Kevin came out and looked over the projects and then provided me with an estimate. We set up a time-frame for the project and then basically my wife and I went on vacation for a week while the folks from Sterling Carpet came in and completed all of the requested activities.
When we returned home we were amazed at the difference the new flooring made in our home - it felt like we walked into a new home.
We did notice one problem - one section of the new flooring was a bit darker than the rest of the floor. I called Kevin and explained my concerns. He said that he would be over to take a look at them later that day. He came over that afternoon - this is where I was really pleasantly surprised - he agreed that the section was not right and told me that he'd have it redone as soon as we could schedule it.
The next week Grant, the installer came out and redid the area. It now looks great.
One thing that I can't emphasize enough is that this company takes pride in their work and makes sure that their customers are satisfied - more companies need to be like that!

We had a cat used the carpet instead of the littler box. They sanitized the basement, they were quick, efficient, professional and thorough. They were shockingly inexpensive. They moved a pool table and furniture. We have not yet picked out the new carpet but we will be doing to them, we like their service. It was wonderful.

Sterling Carpet was helpful and professional from start to finish -- I was very pleased with my choice to use them and would use them again.
After seeing reviews on Angie's list, I visited Sterling Carpet where I was shown various brands and price ranges of carpet -- they ordered samples for me to take home and more samples when I wanted to look at a wider range of colors -- they were very flexible and wanted to make sure I was happy with my order - including changing the order when I phoned and switched the carpet in two bedrooms.
The visit to the house for the estimate was scheduled around my availability and the installers were great -- the house had just been repainted and they were very careful.
