Hogan & Sons Tire and Auto

My not-so-old vehicle did not pass the safety inspection (this is the first time this has happened). They suggest $1,700 in fixes to pass the inspection. I was a little doubtful, so I wanted to take my car to the Honda dealership. Of course, I was warned by Hogan & Sons that I shouldn't drive the car anywhere except straight to a repair facility otherwise I would be breaking the law. I left anyway. In the end, Honda charged me $15 dollars to change a brake light (half the price Hogan quoted), and passed me on the inspection. The inspector at Honda has 20 years of inspection experience, and had no idea why I would not have passed at Hogan & Sons - other than needing a new brake light. I don't know if the inspector at Hogan was more junior, but $1,700 in repairs is not a minor oops. I was also a little suspicious because it was the inspector plus a guy trying to sell me services that were walking me through the issues. It didn't seem that the inspector was very independent. They also tried to sell me new tires and wheels because they didn't like the type of tires that came with the Honda. I have used Hogan & sons for years, so I was not expecting anything like this. I don't know if something has changed recently, but I don't really plan on going back any time soon.
