When I first started researching contractors to do this work I ran across a terrible review for this company on Angie's List. As I continued to read the review I realized how absolutely ridiculous it was, obviously written by someone with a personal grudge or another business trying to take down their competition.
I'm so glad I ignored it. We contacted Green Acres owner, Dave Arnold, and had a short discussion about what we were considering. He made an appointment to come to our house to see the location of the project, take measurements and discuss details. We were then asked us to come by his business to see examples of the materials that he uses and to choose colors. A very professional and comprehensive quote was presented to us in writing and signed by us and Mr. Arnold. The job started with building a beautiful, gently curved stone block retaining wall to deal with the difficult slope in our back yard. Mr. Arnold had suggested that we cap the wall with stone slabs to create a and quot;sitting walland quot;. This has proven to be not only attractive but very practical as well. A large, round stone fire pit was installed on one end of the patio, spaced close enough to warm yourself from the sitting wall (again Mr. Arnold's suggestion) and with space for chairs around the other side of the pit. A paver walkway was laid in a nice, organic curve extending from the patio toward our dock. The portions of the foundation that were visible from the patio were faced with natural looking stone slabs.
The project was started at the time promised and completed in the estimated 4-5 days. The price was the price, no over-runs. All the workers were meticulous, careful of our landscaping, respectful of us and our property and worked diligently even on a couple of extremely hot and humid days. We're thrilled with the outcome and have already enjoyed evenings sitting around the fire, enjoying the night sounds.
We would absolutely recommend Green Acres and Dave Arnold.

Dave and his crew started on Wednesday morning and finished late Thursday. Very professional job, they actually put up the wall and did not like how it sat so completely disassembled, put additional pavers underneath and reassembled. If this is a normal example of their work I HIGHLY recommend!

The job started with me stopping at the little garden center in the middle of King George County and explaining exactly what I wanted and the budget that I had. They showed me pictures of work that they had done which turned out later to be pictures of jobs other contractors have done. After Dave Arnold ( the owner) of Green Acres LLC in King George agreed to do the job. They insisted for half down before they would start. He came over a few days later only to drop off some equipment and upset my neighbors by blocking their driveway. I called several times and requested for it to be moved and he said he would get there when he gets there. I was taken back by his tone but not wanting to start off on a bad foot I decided to be patient and I waited for three days before he showed up to move the equipment. My neighbor whom wont speak to me over this had to park up the street and walk home for the three days. Once they started the job, I caught two off the employees smoking pot and drinking beer. The owner laughed and said they do that from time to time and tried to play it off. I was very upset and told him not on my property they don't. The behavior was very unprofessional. I can not prove it was them but some items(cash, wine, credit cards) disappeared from my house during this job. I have had many projects done by contractors and never had an experience like this. On several occasions Dave Arnold made sexual advances towards me and asked me if Id like to go for a ride on his Harley and I caught him whistling at my daughter when she got off the bus (she's in middle school). I was livid. By this time I wanted him off my property and to give me my money back. He refused to give me a refund. I agreed to let him finish the job. I just wanted to put an end to this experience. When I returned from work the job was so bad I sat down and cried. The paving job looked nothing like what was promised and all the plants where so stressed and died within only a couple of days. I talked to Dave Arnolds mother because she is usually at the nursery and she promised me she would get her son to fix the job but it was never done. I honestly don't care to have them back for any reason.
Response from GREEN ACRES NURSERY
"Dear Angie's List Customers. Please note that this is a fictitious review. We have never performed work for a Mr. Chad Smith and was unable to locate him or his address in the area. We tried over and over to reach this "person" but to no avail - he does not exist. We take pride in our work and our commitment to professionalism. We would never behave as reported in this "review." David is a father of a daughter himself and is a law abiding citizen of King George."
