I called and left a message that I wanted a price for the work. My call was returned the same day and he visited my house the same week to see what was needed. We agreed on a price and scheduled the work to be done the next week. He arrived on time, did a great job and cleaned up after himself. I couldn't ask for more.
He also priced running electricity to my pergola and installing some motion sensor lights in the yard but I couldn't afford to have that work done now but may have it done later. I will use this electrician again.
He explained that he had forgotten. I indicated that I needed to move forward to get the job done as soon as possible. He advised me on some supplies to buy and I never heard from Mr. Tipton again.
I called Mr. Tipton because he had done a job for me in the past (outside lighting). Although the price was a bit steep, the work was well done and accomplished on schedule.
My spouse surprised me with an upgrade of my poorly-lit sewing room. It should be said that my sewing room is the bonus room at the top of the house. That means there are 3' high knee walls on each side and a sloped ceiling components that terminate in a long, narrow band of flat ceiling the length of the room. The incandescent lighting simply added to the heat generated by my sewing machines - torture in the warm months! We'd also heard from Troy that he had found some whole-house surge protection that he approved of so that, too, was on our laundry list. I also wanted to get the service panel cleaned up and correctly labeled now that all the large projects were done.
After Troy stopped by and looked over the job, I took his recommendations and went light fixture shopping. I was especially taken with a small, articulated 3-head LED fixture that could be mounted on the sloped ceiling over my sewing table.
That LED fixture is now cleanly mounted over my sewing table and has a switch on the wall below it. Two fluorescent fixtures are in place on the ceiling. The electrical panel in the garage has a glowing green light that indicates the whole-house surge protection is functioning as it should and the electrical panel is organized and labeled.
Six days with no power and appliances full of spoiled food in the wake of Hurricane Irene moved my husband to announce our need for a whole-house generator.
We knew it would be a large undertaking. As with all things electrical, we brought Troy in to help us formulate a solution. He assessed our household needs, recommended a 17Kw Generac unit from electricgeneratorsdirect.com and provided us with a quote for an installation to include the permit and calling for inspection. Several days later, Troy alerted us to a 30-day backorder for the 17Kw unit on the supplier?s website so we upgraded to the 20Kw unit that could ship immediately.
I inspected the generator when it arrived at the local freight yard on a Thursday afternoon then met Troy there the following morning to bring it home. The 480+ pound solidly-packaged generator was loaded in to the back of Troy?s truck by a freight yard forklift operator ? then gently transferred from the truck to the generator pad behind our house with Troy?s lift system.
Troy arrived at 8 a.m. Monday to begin pulling wire, mounting boxes and accomplishing all the prep work possible in order to minimize the power outage necessary to make the connections in the panel. His cabling is a thing of beauty ? always meticulous and organized. While he was working in the service panel, he also found the cause of our "dancing light syndrome" (a slow but consistent flicker of the interior lights) and corrected that problem. He arranged his tasks so as to be clear of the areas where the gas plumbers would be working to install piping and connect the natural gas supply line to the generator.
Once all the gas and electrical connections were made, Troy programmed the unit?s control console and brought the generator to life, demonstrating what we would hear/see/experience when the primary power failed and the generator took over ? and how the generator would respond once primary power was restored. We turned on everything in the house that would load the generator in order for Troy to measure the amp load and declare it satisfactory. Troy will also be rendering any necessary service to the generator going forward.
Where there once was a contractor-grade light fixture in our dim little laundry room there is now a very nice 4-tube fluorescent light Troy recommended that makes it possible to (as Troy expresses it) "tell navy from black."
As always, Troy did a beautiful restoration job on the wall where the service panel is mounted. He never leaves a mess and his work is always detailed and thoughtful. Troy is our go-to electrician because he?s talented, personal, reliable and a (pardon the pun) well-grounded human being. We were incredibly fortunate to have found him!
