The Screen Man

About us

Welcome to The Screen Man, The Screening Experts. Our company is a small woman-owned business that was formed in 2003 to provide high quality screen repair & restoration services in the Northern Virginia Area. We formed the company when we realized that there was a lack of local companies that provided a full-range of services for screen repair. Many companies do not offer onsite repair, their pricing is astronomical and they cannot guarantee quick turnaround. We can perform onsite repair and get you new screens quickly. We have provided high quality screen repair & restoration services to thousands of satisfied customers. We have also performed porch re-screening using the “Screen Tight” tracking system. We have built removable custom screen panels as well, using the traditional porch re-screening methods. We provide screen repair services to local hardware stores and to some of the largest condominiums in the area. The Screen Man’s priorities are to provide: • High quality screen repair • Customer satisfaction • Quick turnaround • Affordable prices

Unlike our last experience, The Screen Man is now expensive, slow in performing work and openly hostile when installing screens.  We called early in the season only to learn they were not yet able to provide an estimate (that would cost $100+) and they no longer performed the work on site.  A few weeks later they picked up the screens noting they would be complete in a week.  Three weeks later I inquired on their status and was told the technician would be out that afternoon.  When we noted the bottom of one frame was not repaired (it had been bent) and that another that had not been damaged, now was, we got a lecture on how houses settle, frames bend and it wasn't HIS fault he had poor communication with the owner of the company.  On two windows he simply pushed the screens in place and failed to snap the closures.  When I reminded him we were paying $7 a window to have them installed, he begrudgingly fixed the screens so they would close properly and straightened the two frames.  The bill that was presented was a big surprise.  My fault.  I never asked for an estimate.  We will never use this firm again.  As one reviewer observed, there aren't a lot of choices for screen repair in the area - but I'll find another or do without before calling on The Screen Man again.
Response from The Screen Man
"Mr. [Member Name Removed], I apologize for the technician's attitude, they should never argue with the customer. I have spoken to him about this. I did discuss the fees initially with you regarding the cost to come onsite and pickup and deliver the repaired screens and the approximate cost for building a new one. We strive to provide excellent service and again I am sorry that you were not satisfied."

They never came out here. I actually took the screens. They replaced whatever needed to be done. I thought they were expensive but unfortunately, there wasn't anyone else here to do what they did. I had to go with them. They did a decent job but I do think they were expensive. I had a screen that was pulling out of the frame a little bit which I thought that they shuld have replaced without me having to pay it again. Maybe it was just a miscommunication but they wouldn't take care of it so I had to pay the second time. I wasn't really happy with that. They got it done when they said they would. I would use them in the future but only because I would have to.

We were having some more difficulties with it - storm damage lead to it needing repair. I tried calling him to replace it, but we could never make a connection. When I did get a hold of him, he'd make an appointment but wouldn't show up. We ended up going with a different company.

"Hi [member name removed], I am sorry we were not able to take care of your issue. My husband Patrick, the one that did your initial screen work was in the hospital for 6 weeks battling for his life during this timeframe and unfortunately he passed away. Our business was on hold during that time and you can imagine how difficult it has been for me. We are operational again and I hope you will consider us if you have any future issues with your screen. Thanks, Betty"

They were on time, brought their truck to the premises and took the door off , did the work right there and replaced the door. Employees very knowledgeable and pleasant.

I dropped my screens off at the Sears HW store. Patrick called about the cost, Sears miss-charged me. We talked about the screens I had dropped off. They were ruined when I tried to get them out. He then very patiently walked me through how I should have removed them and how I needed to get them back in. He didn't know what kind of windows I had and he was able to walk me through them like he was standing next to me. He really knows his stuff. I am so grateful for all his help. My new screens look beautiful!

I picked up my screen at a local Sears store with which The Screen Man has a drop-off/pick-up arrangement. When I got it home I wasn't crazy about the job and could tell that Patrick had probably not done this particular repair himself (I'm very picky and having used these folks several times over the years, I know what great work they do).
So, I called Patrick and he stopped by my home, picked-up the screen, re-screened it himself (with a higher-quality screen than my original!) and brought it back to me, at my home, the next week.
If every tradesman, company, etc. was as reliable, friendly, honest and professional as these folks, we wouldn't need an Angie's List!

The Screen Man was all good. We have used him 6 or 7 years ago and he did a good job then. We have had no problems with him. He is not cheap but he does a great job.

He was wonderful. I called him to replace or rebuild my screen. He knew exactly what kind of window I had and only charged me 15.00. He rescreened it and replaced the springs. I would highhly recommend him.
