I called Décor&You because I wanted help redoing my living and dining room. I had attempted to contact two other decorators on Angies List but the results were less than satisfactory, so this was my third call. Janet contacted me in response to my email. We had a nice conversation so she could determine what I was looking for and we agreed to meet from there. That started a several months long project that led to my beautiful living room. We never actually got to the dining room because I ended up spending too much money elsewhere, but I am not disappointed. Janet was fabulous to work with, and was really good about translating my ideas into substance, telling me when they were bad, and making decisions when I couldn't. She has a great eye for color and pattern - putting things together that I would have never imagined. Because her office was close to my home, she was able to come to me right after I got home from work to bring me samples and make choices. I use the service providers she normally works with refinish my hardwood floors, paint, and electrical work. She was the one who suggested pot lights in my living room, which was not in my budget but which I did anyway, and boy-o-boy am I happy I did. She was the one who suggested that we cut a niche into the wall above the mantel (over the fireplace) to place the TV components out of the way but close to the TV which she determined would go above the fireplace. That was a fabulous idea, and no one notices it until I point it out to them. Genius! I loved her electrician, who did beautiful work, and I adored her painters, who did even more beautiful work. Her flooring guys I was not so thrilled with, but their work was adequate.
This project took three times as long as I expected, and cost twice as much as I expected, but that was because I opted to do more than I originally planned, and everything really is more expensive in this town. I had the hardwood floors on the main level refinished, and replaced carpeted stairs, hallway, and two bedrooms with hardwood. I had the entire main level, up the stairs, hallway, and two bedrooms completely repainted. That was not part of the cost to Janet, but added up to the $20+k this project cost. Thru Janet, I had my grandmother's wing chair reupholstered with the most beautiful fabric ever made, and it is the showpiece of the living room. Thru Janet, I got a beautiful shag rug, a couch, throw pillows, window coverings and drapery panels, side tables, and lamps. And everything is such high quality! She did wonderful things like meet with the electrician, come by and talk to the painters, did the installation of the furniture when it came in, handled the installation of the window coverings and art - and she did all of this while I was at work!! She helped me select the art for the walls from my collection of stuff in my basement. She even went to Belfort Furniture with me to help me pick out two chairs that were just the right size for me in a fabric that went with all the other selections (which I never would have chosen on my own). I especially appreciated that - what a wonderfully generous thing to do. The most interesting aspect of our relationship was picking a paint color. We spent weeks and weeks trying to pick a color with me going to the paint store, getting a test and putting it on the walls in various places throughout the main level. It proved difficult to pick one because of what the variety of lines, angles, and windows do to the light in my home. We finally made a choice by my painting a huge square of primer on my biggest wall, and large squares of four different colors, which I numbered 1 thru 4. She came over in the middle of the day with her fabric samples, and picked a color. I now have walls covered in the most beautiful soft grey you have ever seen (Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter at 50%). I couldn't have done that without Janet. Additionally, I have the most beautiful lamps and side tables ever - my friends compliment me on my lamps! The best thing is that nothing matches, but everything works so beautifully, I love it all. When it came to the guest bedroom, she help me with a tufted headboard and window coverings to match the bed linens I picked out, and arranged everything so all I had to do was put the bookcases where she told me to put them.
I still have a master bedroom to do and will be calling Janet when I'm ready to start that project. She is a delight to work with and I couldn't be happier with the results.
"Thank you so much for your review! I so enjoyed working with you! It was a pleasure assisting in the transformation of your townhome. Your antique chair is my favorite piece also - It was so great that you took a chance doing a non-traditional fabric on the antique chair! I look forward to helping with future projects!"
"[removed member name], Thank you so much for your review! We are thrilled that you are happy with your space. It was a pleasure to work with you."
Our window treatments and bed linens were completed in about 4-6 weeks from the order date. During the time the items were being manufactured, we had the rooms painted, using a painter recommended by Decor and You.
Decor and You arranged for a professional installation of the window treatments and dressed the beds with the new linens. We have received many compliments on our new rooms.
