Preferred Siding sent an industry expert who provided a clear set of recommendations for our siding needs, we are following those recommendations completely.

NOTE: this company and others DO NOT repair siding. They just install new siding. They did however say they'd work on siding they'd previously installed.

Top quality small firm focused on Hardie Board installations. We had significant woodpecker damage to cedar siding. Ordered replacement boards, good communication, crew shows up on time and completed on schedule. Wanted to ensure we were happy with results. Not likely the lowest cost provider, but felt confident they would (1) do a solid job and (2) ensure it was done properly.

It went very good. Very professional. If we end up doing our siding this is the company I plan on going with.

Excellent, professional and was able to meet my very tight timeframe. Communication was of a very high order at all levels of the company. Their objective was the exceed customer satisfaction and that what they achieved. Hard to find company who will do a part of the house and not the full house.

After doing some research, I concluded that Preferred Siding was probably the best in the area for what they do: Hardie Board siding and nothing else.  Their price was not the lowest, but it was competitive with other top rated firms.  I was surprised by how long the job took and how disruptive it was; I think that's just the nature of the task, the busy time of year, and the weather. The crews were always pleasant and professional. I'd make the same choice again.

They do not perform this service, but rather than just ignoring my email they responded very promptly, advised me regarding the related services they could provide, and offered to provide references to other service providers.   While I did not use them for service, the promptness and professionalism of their response was very positive and refreshing.

The crew were superb in keeping the work site clean and tidy over the 3 days they were here.  In removing siding above my wife's flower garden they ensured that no damage  to the plants took place.Management supervision were here every day to inspect the progress of the job.
I strongly recommend this contractor.

Working with Preferred Siding, from start to finish, has been a great experience. From the beginning, Steve Ginsberg met with me to discuss the project. With decades of experience with Hardie products he provided suggestions on the design, window trim options, colors, and a range of other details that I had not even thought of. This personal touch is what really sets him apart from others, not to mention the fact that he only does Hardie and will not try to sell you other things like roofing and windows. We did opt to replace the gutters, and Steve’s price was lower that other estimates I had from gutter companies in the past. Once the project started, his crew was very professional and efficient. They have worked with Steve for years and are experts with fiber cement products, so he trusts them to do the job right. They are also careful to install everything per Hardie specifications to ensure the home is covered under the warranty. It was not a quick two-day project like vinyl, but took two weeks to install the siding and trim. We opted to replace all the wood trim with a Hardie product and PVC in places, so except for some porch columns we now have

almost no wood on the exterior. One the siding and trim were installed we had the trim painted, which took another four days. The finished product is beyond my expectations. Out of about 500 homes in my community of 20+ year old homes, ours is the only one so far with Hardie siding. If you are considering going with Hardie, consider Preferred Siding and you will not go wrong.

Our old cedar siding was in bad shape, with numerous woodpecker holes and plentiful carpenter bee damage.  We did a deck job first before the siding job, because we were advised in consult with Preferred Siding that was the better order to do things to avoid inadvertent damage to new siding, even though the siding was probably most urgent based on the damage already described.  The Hardie fiber cement product was attractive to us based on the resistance to woodpeckers and bees, in addition to the potential energy savings.  We appreciated that even before we had a signed contract with Preferred Siding that they were willing to have consultations with the deck company about how the two projects would work best together.  They also were patient in waiting for us to finish our deck project first.  They also offered a coupon through Angie's List.
We signed a contract finally in late summer 2012 after gaining our HOA approval and were able to get scheduled for October 2012 for the work.  We decided to stick with vertical siding choice to match the original look for the 1970s contemporary ranch construction.  Be aware that this means that you have to have the product separately painted, which would later become a bit of a pain with Preferred Siding's affiliated painter.  The affiliated painter is highly unreliable (5 day job took 3 weeks, painter disappeared for a week so that even the painting owner did not know where he was, and it took 7 months to get booked with the active help of Preferred Siding once I flagged for them the problem), but delivers quality painting work.  Based on the painter experience suggest thinking carefully about choosing horizontal siding product that does not/not require extra painting to avoid the hassle we encountered on the painting end.  Or choose a different painter.
Preferred Siding did an excellent job getting the work done to put the new siding up on the house.  This also included a whole-house wrap.  They also replaced rotten wood around windows with Azek.  The house looked like a new house with the primed vertical siding up.  We were extremely pleased with the job.  Grace who works the office for Preferred Siding was a real stand-out throughout.  Really appreciated her assistance in getting us linked up with the painter ultimately too.
The only nits I would flag for awareness is that interior damage caused by putting up the siding is clearly the owner's responsibility per the contract.  We had some dry wall pop in (minor), but more seriously the banging caused a piping joint where the refrigerator's ice maker water line joined the pipe that went outside to an external water faucet to break causing gushing of water into one basement recessed light, carpet, and drywall damage to the basement ceiling that we are responsible to repair separately.  We fortunately were home with a sick child that day to be present at the time the water started gushing, so that we were able to flag the mishap pretty quickly to the crew working outside.  To the credit of the team here working that day, they came to a full stop to help figure out what had gone wrong, helped get the water turned off, and literally sawed the side of the house off to get to the problematic area to repair it.  They repaired the plumbing break at no extra charge, which we appreciated, and restored the outside wall before completing the project.  This helped alert us to the longer-term need to install an access panel into that area of the basement ceiling so that we can get to pipes with on/off valves that are otherwise inaccessible (thus the need to saw the outside of the house off during the crisis).  Less clear to us was that we were also responsible to re-attach the electric box to the outside of the house after the job; we hired an electrician to come do that for us once it was clear that was our responsibility and not that of Preferred Siding.  Finally, the front of the house was quite clean and the bulk of clean-up was good.  However, before we had some foundation repair taken care of we collected a small grocery bag of mostly nails and small debris.  We were concerned that the numerous nails would harm the foundation repair crew coming in to do excavation, so we picked them up ourselves.
The house looks 100% better with the new siding, and it's real peace of mind now not to worry about woodpeckers, bees, and birds nests in the sides of our home.  Preferred Siding did a quality job, and we are happy with the work they completed.

The results are spectacular. People stop and comment. And it seems quieter in the house as well. |The weather (snow and bitter cold) in December and January held the crew back, and they even came on a few Saturdays and Sundays (with our permission) to catch up.

They did an excellent job. The price was fair for what they did. There were a few issues that had to be straightened out, but Steve was very accommodating and was always there to address the issues. He was a very nice man to deal with. The new siding is a big improvement over the old siding and we no longer have issues with woodpeckers.
I had estimates from various companies and I liked dealing with Prefferred because they seldom do change orders and they replaced some trim that was rotting at no additional charge to me. They are one of the companies recommended by the James Hardee website.

Steve was professional and courtious, but it was a very long process (took much longer than we expected, and we are ex-contractors ourselves, so we know how the remodeling process works). The work was initially contracted on 5 October 2012, but work didn't begin until January 2013. They were not the low bidder (we asked 3 contractors for competitive bids for the work), but they have a full-time crew, no subcontractors, and do all the work by hand. The crew showed up on-time once we were scheduled and were able to complete the job in just about 2 weeks. We would absolutely hire them again - the quality of the work was fantastic.

Steve Ginsberg came to my home and provided information and reviewed the work to be done. He said he would have an estimate at the end of the following week. He did not email or attempt to call me so after a couple of weeks I sought bids from other companies. It was about 3 1/2 - 4 weeks later that a woman from Preferred called to schedule an appointment for Steve to present his proposal. I declined since I was put off by the delay and had decided to go forward with another company, Tom Hanger, which had given me a very good price and had been recommended by references in my research.
I did say they could mail me the Preferred bid, which they did and which was much higher than the Tom Hanger price.
