They saved me a ton of money. The dealer had recommended a new transmission. These guys carefully checked and determined what the problem was and fixed it quickly. Plus, they were there to answer my many phone calls and walked me through the process.

Did a repair for me months ago that required the gas tank to be reflled. While the repair went ok I was a little put off that they charged me over 3.50 a gallon for regular gas. There is a gas station next door so it wasnt like they had to go a long way. That bit og gouging makes me wonder where else I may have been overcharged. Called back to enquire and they used obscene language. Would not recommend especially since there are other places close by that are more professional.

He test drove my car, confirmed that a replacement rear differential was required, located a used differential with low mileage (40K), provided a 6-month, 6000-mile warranty that includes parts and labor, and completed the work in one day. They're very good. They have quality service, they are not wishy washy. They are straightforward and the price is reasonable. They are very professional.

I was prepared to spend $2000 for the work and was so relieved that I didn't need to spend the money right now because I needed several other repairs for my home. I appreciated his honesty because he could have easily done the work and charged me.

If I could rate them higher than an A I would. This is the best place to go if you need auto repair done. They are very professional and courteous. It is hard to find a place that is honest in their communication with you. they also worked with the extended service contract I had. They go above and beyond every time i have a need for their services. I would highly recommend Herndon Reston transmission! Even though they are not the closet or convenient service shop for me, i will not take any of my cars any where else.

Perfect. What appeared to be a transmission problem was diagnosed as a bad pcv valve and coolant temperature sensor. What could have been a $3000 repair was drastically reduced. Working with Randy is a pleasure. Nice to know there are still honest repair establishments

Wonderful experience. On time. It is my third time dealing with shop. Always courteous, prices are reasonable and they go other future issues there may be in the car.

On two separate occasions, Randy was able to fit me in the same day as requested and did a thorough, professional and complete mechanical evaluation of each car and in both cases found and highlighted potential problems with the vehicle. In the first car he found issues that would have cost thousands to fix if I bought the car and were problems not readily seen or reported on Carfax. On the second car he found an issue I was able to rectify with the dealership. I would definitely recommend Herndon Reston Transmission and would use them again.

I was surprised to find the initial check: looking at the engine, fluid check, and road test was done at no charge by Mr. Ted Hartman; he found no transmission problem, wrote down what might be causing the "check engine" light to come on and referred me back to the garage that sent me (who didn't have transmission expertise but said to check that out first). I will do as suggested, but it was refreshing not to merely be dismissed or told I needed some expensive repair on my 27 year old car, and it wasn't worth doing.

So far so good (van drives much better and the engine is smoother). Randy was very helpful and understood this was a large ticket item and he was very helpful with getting the van towed (a long distance). HRT was very good on price point (I priced places local to my home, several dealers, etc.). HRT offers a very good warranty as well; though I hope I never have to use it. This shop is nowhere near my house, but it's up where I do a lot of work, so the distance to get it repaired was not a big issue. The price above is with the tow bill (still a big bill, even with help from Randy), so your price would likely be much better for a similar repair sans the long distance tow. The rear electronic engine mount on the Odyssey is crazy expensive (almost $700) so if you don't need that, then you'll save that much more (Honda needs to address those costs and the design). Overall, HRT has a good reputation (heard this from folks outside of Angie's List as well). It's been a good experience (as good as can be expected laying out that type of $$$) :-)

Randy is a good person & manages well. All work is very professional - timely & well diagnosed. Got a little cocky when questioned about price of supplies.

I had a 10 year old car that had an oil leak, a transmission leak, and was having acceleration issues. The dealer service department gave me some unconvincing and extremely expensive stories. They diagnosed the acceleration issue as a transmission failure, requiring complete replacement of the transmission. I took the car in to Herndon Reston Transmission looking for an honest and complete assessment of my car. My plan was to decide whether it was better to repair or replace my car. And Herndon Reston Transmission provided it. They went through the car with me and looked at what would need addressing in the next few months and within the year. They also identified those issues which they couldn't know what was happening without actually taking things apart. For each of those issues, they identified possible causes and costs from least to worst case. The acceleration issue, by the way, was a bad coil. The transmission was fine. The leak was due to a stripped bolt hole when the transmission was last serviced. (By the dealer service department.) A new gasket and stripped bolt kit corrected the leak. In other words they provided me with an expert, complete and honest assessment. And which matched my 35 years of experience with cars far better than that of the dealer's service department. They were also up front on costs, benefits and risks, and, when pressed, how they would act if they owned my car. Although it was fully repairable, I ended up replacing car. I would most certainly use them again. (And plan to do so.) Further, I recommend them for those interested in getting the advice and work of experienced and forthright mechanics.

Once again, Herndon Reston Transmission did an outstanding repair service, well below the cost of taking it to a dealership. In addition, the Car Care One credit card service they offer is fantastic; it allowed me to pay off my repair bill with no interest.

I would recommend this company to everyone. They are honest, timely - and very professional. I have dealt with Randy the most and really trust him.

I was not charged a penny. Not for the lift, not for the time, not for anything. Ted told me that it was a courtesy. This has to be the Best auto repair shop in the entire Metro area.

A1 performance by Randy & his crew. I thought I just needed a little brake fluid, but Randy did a thorough check and found the leak. These guys are great to work with! I used to take my older Acura to the dealer for service, but switched to having Herndon Reston Transmission take care of my car when I needed the transmission rebuilt. They did a terrific job then, too, and have since performed regular maintenance service to my car as well. They work diligently to get your car back when promised, and their costs seem fair and reasonable to me. There are no surprises when you go to pick up your car, and they give you all of your options when it comes to repair work. Do yourself a favor, and stop going to the overpiced dealer service center. Take your car here with confidence!

My gear was in need of a 75,000 mile policing and I was unsure what it need. Randy told me to bring it in for an oil change and they would do a free diagnostic check. In addition to the oil and filter all I needed was a transmission flush. It was less expensive than the dealership estimate offered.

Car towed to Car Max.05/12/2013 received call Monday afternoon, it was determined, had a transmission problem.Herdon Reston Transmission recommended, as Car Max did not worm on transmissions. I talked to Randy who said they would go as per my car. Randy concurred with car Max. That’s it.

Very courteous and professional staff. I learned they do more than just transmissions--general repairs as well. It is an hour drive from my house to their shop, so I will not bring my new car back for oil changes, but I will be going back for major maintenance and repairs. They impressed me that much.

Took a repair quote from the dealership to Herndon Reston Transmission for work on my daughter's VW Beetle. The representative, Randy, took the vehicle for a drive and performed a detailed analysis to confirm what was causing the issues. The transmission needed a new valve body. Randy explained exactly how the valve body worked and what the issue was. He then provided me with a quote--almost $1,000 less than the dealer! The car also needed a new wheel bearing on the one front wheel. Herndon Reston Transmission replaced both wheel bearings for less than it would have cost for one at the dealership. Repairs were done quickly and the car now runs fantastic! Thanks Herndon Reston Transmission--I hope I don't need you again, but if I need future car work, you have my business!
