Yes, I recommend this pro
$700
I had used Richard Park of Acuity Building for some painting and carpentry at our old house in Burke about 18 months ago.  I was so impressed with his work that the next time I needed handyman work, at our new house in Springfield, I didn't consider anyone else.  Richard was out of town when I called him, but he called me back a few days later and got straight to work.  Changing the lock on the front door turned out to be not as straightforward as it sounds, and we ended up changing the front plate too. I asked Richard to go pick one out at Home Depot, and he called me from there to tell me what my choices were.  I was happy with what he picked.  That first project ended up taking  a good part of the day, and it took a couple more days (including more trips to Home Depot) until my hit list was complete.  I added a couple of items along the way.
Richard does not consider a job done until both you and he think it's perfect, and he's a perfectionist.  He even took care to make sure the long arms of my chandelier ran  parallel to the long wall--something I would never have thought of, but it did look better that way.  If something can be fixed in various ways and at different price points,  he will tell you your options. For example, the best way to fix our rickety attic steps was to replace them completely.  Richard explained what he could do for a "quick fix," and we went with that option because we only use the steps a few times a year.  The steps no longer bow in the middle, and I don't fear for my life when I go up to the attic.

Richard is a smart and interesting guy, and I enjoyed his company while he was here. He was considerate of my home--and my cats--and did not leave any mess. I highly recommend Acuity Building to anyone who wants a job done well and doesn't care if it takes a bit of extra time.
