I strongly advise against hiring McCormick Tree Care, led by Sam McCormick, due to their lack of professionalism and integrity. The company failed to communicate before starting work or after finishing for the day, leaving me uninformed. Without my consent, the crew laid large metal sheets to "protect" my lawn, but Sam was not present when they began, and the sheets were placed without my approval. When Sam arrived, I expressed concerns about the chosen gate, which had poor drainage near my HVAC unit due to recent rain. I requested they use the opposite gate, better suited for the weather and equipment, but Sam dismissed my concerns, assuring me the sheets would prevent damage. He was wrong, and the machinery caused $1,500 in damage to my side yard. Additionally, the job was incomplete, with several stumps left behind despite my payment for FULL tree and stump removal. These guys recently helped to conserve two overgrown Bradford Pears on my property. It was a great experience from beginning to end. The estimator actually listened to my concerns and wishes, advised me on what was best for my trees as well as meeting our needs. When asked about doing some additional tree work he advised against the added expense. Refreshing! The estimated price was reasonable. When the crew arrived, they did exactly the specified work and in a timely and professional manner. After the work was complete, they left the work site undamaged and clean. A tree pruner I had used in the past told me the tree was too big for him to handle. Another company I messaged through a web form asking for a quote responded asking me to call them to make an appointment (why do I need an appointment for you to look at a tree that is outside? why have a web form if you only respond to tell me to call you?). Another company gave a similar quote to Sam but took 6 days to respond to an emailed question. Sam was very communicative about scheduling both a quote and service, using email and texting as is my preference, his price was comparable to the other estimate I got (out of 4 companies I attempted to get an estimate from), and he also discounted the price rather than haul away the wood, which the other company was unwilling to do. He originally told me he was busy for the next few weeks but ended up fitting me into his schedule 2 days later. He ended up chipping the branches anyway, and the remaining logs were not much for me to deal with. I paid cash and he didn't have a receipt on hand, but true to his word, he emailed me one that same night.

They get the job done quickly and professionally. They are very careful to not damage the lawn and they leave no debris behind. I would recommend this company whole heartedly! I thought their price was totally reasonable given the amount of work and care they put into the job.

I spoke with the owner of the business on the phone about pruning trees near my house while they were at my neighbors house cutting down a large tree and was giving the price.  I was not home during the work but I was surprised when I returned on how few limbs they trimmed for the price.   I was expecting more for the amount of money but that misunderstanding is partly my fault since I was not there and insisting on a signed contract.   The Commonwealth of VA requires contractors to work under signed contracts which would have eliminated my misunderstanding of the work to be done for the price.   Instead of calling me and asking me if I was happy, the owner of the company asked my neighbor if I was happy which disturbed me a little.  What disturbed me more was that the owner showed up at my door on a Sunday evening with an attitude questioning why I had not paid him.   The truth is that I thought my wife had mailed him a check and she thought I did.  Regardless, I would understand a courtesy phone call reminding me to pay or even a courtesy reminder note in the mail but a unannounced door step visit on a Sunday evening with an unprofessional attitude is ridiculous.   I would not recommend the company for that sole reason but I also would never use any contractor without a signed contract detailing the work to be done.
