Hardware & Home Improvement Stores
We used the gift card to purchase area rugs for our home. They were very helpful and basically saved us 50% off what we would have spent at any other home furnishing stores.

Carpet Installation
They were very good in trying to get the contractor they used to do his job. They stayed on top of it. The contractor's work was pretty good but their communication was not the most professional.

Appliance Sale
On Sept 26, 2009 my wife and I went to Lowes after our refrigerator died and wanted a new one ASAP. We were attracted to Lowes because they heavily advertise their next day delivery of appliances (BUYER BEWARE ALERT: they have to have the item in the store you visit in order for it to be a next day delivery). Personally, I think they need to stop the advertising of this service since there is a big “if” involved. We informed sales person that we were without a working refrigerator and wanted delivery ASAP. Initially her computer search indicated that one was available at the Newport News store, but that we would have to go to that store to purchase it. She checked with the personnel at the NN store to insure that the item was available…after a few minutes our salesperson told us the NN store said there was NOT one available. We were then told we could expect a new refrigerator would be shipped for delivery to us later the next week. On Wednesday (30 Sept) someone from the store called us early in the afternoon to tell us the refrigerator has arrived and that someone from the delivery section would be calling us that evening between 7 and 9 PM to schedule the delivery for Thursday. We did NOT get any calls on Wednesday. We called the store the next day to check the status of our purchase and delivery and someone said that delivery would call us that evening to schedule delivery. We were called Thursday evening and told delivery would take place between the hours of 12-5 the next day, Friday. The next day we received a call at or around 11 AM…fortunately we were home to take the call. The delivery personnel removed our old refrigerator and installed the new one. During the process the delivery personnel chipped the frame of a picture that was hanging in our entry way (probably by opening the door and not looking what it might hit). Also during the process, the deliverers, in preparation for moving the refrigerator, removed the doors and drawers and placed them in the grass outside our home. This is the same grass that the neighborhood pets use for their business. It seems the prudent thing to do at this point would be to have a movers blanket or something similar for this procedure. The rest of the delivery proceeded without any other problems that we could observe. We then plugged in the refrigerator and it did not work. We contacted GE to resolve the problem…they eventually sent a service rep who diagnosed the problem as a faulty compressor. At this point we contacted Lowes to get a replacement. We were told we would be getting a brand new refrigerator to replace the broken one. The refrigerator that was provided had some issues. First, the top of the refrigerator was coated in grime – this indicated that it had been removed from its shipping container and had been exposed to the elements for some time (floor model????). Second, I unpacked the original refrigerator and removed all the protective film, tape, and Styrofoam padding – the replacement refrigerator had none of the same packing/protective material…in addition it was missing the water filter….we used the filter from the original refrigerator. Third, there was a piece of plastic that was gouged out of the top cover and it needs to be replaced. Fourth, there were two small dents in the top right edge of the refrigerator. Fifth, it appears that some screws were missing from the maintenance access panel on the rear of the refrigerator. Finally, and thankfully, the refrigerator seems to be operating correctly with the exception of the water filter. When the water filter is installed the water merely dribbles out. A new water filter may be needed? The same deliverers were used for the replacement refrigerator and they again placed removed doors and drawers on the grass without protection. We informed the local Lowes store manager of the problem. He agreed to send us a new refrigerator and give us a credit on our original purchase. Eleven days later and four weeks after we made our original purchase we took delivery of a third refrigerator. More problems – the new refrigerator was not a new one, but a floor model. It had dents and scratches and the deliverers had to cannibalize one of the doors from the old refrigerator to replace the dented door on the newly delivered one. Even though we did not get a brand new refrigerator my wife and I were exhausted from our experience and decided to keep the demo model that was delivered because it works, but until we go another discount credit and extended warranty at no cost. Final thoughts – The Lowes people we dealt with were polite and professional, but something is definitely rotten in the process. It took us 4 weeks to finally get a working refrigerator - a floor model - definitely not a shiny brand new one.

Flooring, Ceramic Tile Service
Left a number of tiles with dried grout on them. As these can not be repaired short of ripping them out, I had to cover them with furniture.

Garage Door Service
It was a bit of a hassle getting all the paperwork done over at the store, to get things rolling, but outside of that it was a pretty good experience. The men who installed both the door and opener did what was needed and got it done right. It was a really nice door and the opener had worked terrific. They did do it when scheduled and finished quickly.

Water Heater Service, Plumbing
We purchased a new water heater from Lowe s and then scheduled an appointment for installation. The installer came out on time. We were very comfortable having them in our home. They removed the old water heater and hauled it away. They installed the new one and cleaned up everything. We have not had any problems with it.

Kitchen and Bath Remodeling
Originally, we went to another company for this, but they refused to do the job the way we wanted. Lowe's was creative in the design, was open to our input, and kept the price lower than we had anticipated. The crew was professional, clean, and did a wonderful job with the remodeling. The new kitchen has a lot more room and is equally functional.

Flooring
I did not have Lowe s install the flooring in the dining room because I wanted to keep that carpeted, but, they did a gorgeous job with the rest of the floor. The guy who did it was named Bill and he was just the best. He even has his own personal business card that I kept because I liked him so much. You would not believe the outcome of the floor, it is fabulous. Bill even showed us how to install this type of floor. After learning so much from Bill, my husband and I went and purchased another floor and redid the entire upstairs. The service I received could not have been more perfect. I do not remember the exact price of the bill. I want to say around $2500 for the installation, but, do not quote me on that.

Hardware & Home Improvement Stores, Cabinet Making
The sales representative at Lowes was a great help. They had Craft Maid cabinetmakers did a wonderful job on our custom cabinets. The craftsmanship was great and priced better than the competitions. The delivery guys weren t the best, but otherwise Lowes was very good to deal with. The Craft Maid cabinets are a very good value, and they provide good quality work.
