"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for bringing this to our attention. According to our records, you called for an Air Conditioning repair quote and did not schedule a technician to come to your home. We quote $125.00 to provide a diagnostic inspection of your Air Conditioning System using our 29 Point Inspection Report that is recommended by Air Conditioning manufacturers and distributors. The diagnostic charge is applied toward any repairs or maintenance. It also allows for a thorough safety, efficiency and comfort assessment of your system to identify proper operation, any malfunctioned parts and to determine if cleaning or maintenance is necessary. Again, the $125.00 diagnostic charge is applied toward any of those services or repairs. If you had a service agreement with us, you wouldn't be charge and would receive a 20% Discount with 2 Inspections and Cleanings per year. They told me it would cost $6,000 for a new furnace. They did earlier work which I would give them an A on. I would tell someone else to be careful and get a second opinion. He was already in the neighborhood when he stopped by.
"I am sorry you misunderstood our technician. As stated in the ticket you signed, "Advised customer that 2000 (manufacture year) American Standard Heat Pump is very low on R-22 Refrigerant. Quoted to add refrigerant, dye and return for leak search." He also provided an estimate to replace the Heat Pump as R-22 Refrigerant is expensive. He provided you options to restore heat to your home. A heat pump is never supposed to freeze under normal operating conditions. They have a defrost cycle that prevents them from freezing. Your heat pump froze, indicating a problem, in this case, low refrigerant pressure. **If you did not have the refrigerant recharged, your system was no longer operating on the heat pump heat but on the electric heating elements, which is much more expensive to operate. Angie's List wrote an excellent article about What to Do When Heat Pump Coils Freeze, which explains how Heat Pumps operate, why Heat Pump coils freeze and how to detect frozen coils.
