My experience was outstanding from beginning to end. Rich did a great job restoring a large wooden chess set for us. Rich communicated promptly, was very professional, negotiated a fair price for the work and the end result was of high quality. I highly recommend Wooden Restorations and would absolutely use them again.

I researched several furniture restoration vendors in the area and what drew me to Wooden Restorations was Rich’s extensive experience in restoring roll top desks. Anyone who is familiar with antique roll top desks knows they have lots of moving parts (tambour doors, drawer locking mechanisms, pigeon hole shelving with tight-fitting drawers and hidden compartments). I have a Macey Roll top desk (circa 1910) that has been in my family for over 60 years and it needed extensive work. The tambour door assembly was detached and its canvas backing was completely deteriorated so I had to find someone who knew the intricacies of restoring the tambours to their original articulated working condition. Rich will sit down with you and tell you exactly what is needed to restore your piece of furniture. For my Macey roll top desk, Rich had repaired all the damaged sections (there were several areas) and he took painstaking care to keep all of the original Macey manufacture markings while he hand-stripped the old finish and lightly sanded, where necessary, all wooden finished surfaces. He hand-finished all the wood paneling, tambours, pigeon hole shelving, drawers and trim to their original luster. Rich took prudent care to keep the original patina of the wood. What really impressed me about the project was that he took detailed pictures of the entire restoration process (over 200 pictures) and he provided it to me on a disk as a slide show. Rich completed the job right on schedule (about a month) and the price was very competitive with other vendors in the National Capital Region. Rich was definitely the right person to for the job. He is a true artisan who takes great pride in restoring antiques / heirlooms furniture and he has extensive knowledge on many old American furniture pieces and companies from his extensive work through the years. He is truly a pleasure to work with and I will not go to anyone else from now on. I have included a picture of my roll top desk before it was restored (we found the missing drawer after the picture was taken) and two photos after it was restored to all it’s splendor.

Excellent restoration.
Description of Work: Richard restored an early 20th century pembroke table that had been in our basement for 20+ years. The table was in poor condition but Richard has restored it to being a beautiful piece of furniture. There are pictures (before and after the restoration) on facebook that show the many steps that went into the restoration. We are extremely pleased with the restoration and highly recommend Wooden Restorations. We plan to have additional furniture restored. Richard is extremely talented and knowledgable and very pleasant to work with.

Thanks so much, Rich, for making our chair repair such a great experience. I love our dining room set and was afraid that I'd have to spend money to replace all the chairs, and with the holidays coming up, I wouldn't have them in time. Not only was Rich able to repair it so it looks like it was never broken, but he was also very expedient in getting it done. I would highly recommend Rich to anyone looking for quality work in a timely fashion at an affordable price!!
Description of Work: Rich worked his magic to repair our dining room chair that we figured was so badly broken it couldn't be fixed.

The owner, Rich Patnoe, did a wonderful job of refinishing a treasured cedar chest. It had become scratched on the outside over the years and had lost it's cedar smell inside. He completed a multi-step process to bring it back to life and it looks and smells beautiful! Rich is very personable and listens to what is needed. The work was completed in a timely fashion and I would definitely use his services again. I highly recommend Wooden Restorations.
