NORTHERN WOODS TREE SERVICE, LTD

On June 6, 2017, I purchased an Angie's List deal for an arborist to perform a 1-hour tree risk assessment and a $75 credit towards tree services. Angie's List advised the provider would contact me to schedule the service. I didn't hear anything from them. On June 12, I sent a message to Northern Woods and got no response. On June 13, I contacted Mr. Blakely who said they had no record of the deal, but they would call back to schedule the service. I heard nothing more from them as of June 14, and am trying to find another provider. Waiting around for Northern Woods cost me a lot of time, as I'd wanted to get this done before we go out of town. I would never use them.

Outstanding! Crews were on site in community doing other work when I asked if owner was available. No more than 5-10 mins. later, he came to my house, agreed to do the job I needed done, and it was completed within the half hour. Trees looked great! This has been my go-to company for landscape needs for some years, and no matter how large or small the job, they are responsive and do the job for a reasonable cost. Highly recommend.

Mr. Robert Blakely did an excellent job in providing an assessment of our oak trees - his recommendations were very detailed and have provided us with a pathway to ensure that the trees remain healthy and hazard free.  It was a pleasure working with him and I would not hesitate to use his services in the future.

We wanted to get a better understanding of the trees on our property and evaluate their health after the harsh winter and wet early summer. Duane from the company came to our house and provided a very accessible and informative tour as we walked around the property. I was impressed by his appreciation for trees and his demeanor. I never felt like I was being sold a service or that he was looking to make money off of us. He recommended a few minor maintenance items, which we could do ourselves, and gave some insight on specific trees to watch and times to reevaluate them. In all, it was a great experience and I will definitely turn to this company again when I actually need some work performed on trees.

I obtained three estimates for the work, one from a national company I had done business with previously, the second from a company that was soliciting work in my neighborhood, and the third from Northern Woods Tree Service, Ltd, a name provided by the next-door neighbor of my son, who lives in my community. That neighbor needed a tree removedl, and his landscaper recommended he contact Northern Woods.
Before calling Northern Woods I checked them in the WASHINGTON CONSUMERS' CHECKBOOK review of tree service companies in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area and found that Northern Woods was highly rated by the 42 customers who had used them and was given "CHECKBOOK'S top rating for quality". Bob Blakely, the owner of Northern Woods, visited my home, carefully examined my trees, and made me an offer that was reasonable and competitive with the other two companies I considered.
A crew of 9, including two supervisors who are, like Mr. Blakely, certified arborists, arrived a few days later at 9:45 am and completed the work by 4:15 pm. They brought in 2 cranes, which they used with extraordinary skill, assuring that there would be no damage to my property or my neighbor's property. The entire crew were clearly well-trained and skilled in their responsibilities. Each worker went about his business with little or no direction. They worked cooperatively and steadily, I observed most of the work. and any questions I had were answered to my complete satisfaction by one of the supervisors. In spite of the large amount of debris that the work created, my yard was immaculate when the crew left.  
I am extremely satisfied with the work that was performed, will definitely use Northern Woods for any future tree service I may need and have recommended them to neighbors,

Very professional and very good. The crew knows what they're doing and very knowledgeable.  I'd highly recommend them for any type of tree service.

They are very good. This is the second time I have used them. The guy who runs the business is very good. They do very high-quality work. The trees that were taken down were near my house, so it was very important that they did the job the right way. They did an excellent job cleaning it up. They charged me exactly what the estimate was. Everything went well.

Outstanding! The Owner, Bob Blakely is a Certified Arborist who has an incredible encyclopedic knowledge of trees. He had a complete understanding of the various issues affecting different kinds of trees in different locations on my property. I would never have been able to identify the proper solutions without his advice. He proposed practical, cost conscious solutions to the problems. His crew is incredibly professional and serious about the work. They were constantly mindful of the property around the tree work and safety generally. I would not consider using anyone else. I felt that I was getting top of the line professional advice and service for an extremely reasonable price.

Great - fast, reliable, and efficient. Only reason they were not out earlier than six days was because of rain.
