Mark and an assistant did a superb job of preparing and installing the handrail. The staining and polyurethaning were done off-site so Mark was ready to go when he came on 2/1/2014. Because of the shape of the stairwell there were parts of the handrail that were horizontal, angled, around corners, etc. Every joint was tight. The railing seems to flow from the second floor to the first. Mark made sure all the brackets were anchored in the wall studs. It is a definite improvement of the highest quality. Mark came when he said he would. He made sure the work area was cleaned up before he left. We would definitely hire Mark to do other work around our house.
Mark Belvin and his crew prepared the property with the help of a subcontractor to remove trees. He arranged for the footings and piers to be installed. Construction began soon after by Mark. The plan was elaborate with an unusual shape to the space, as well as varying ceiling heights. The basic structure was like a piece of modern art. The wall cladding was well done, as was the 4-track window installation. Fireplace, ceiling fans, can lights, and pine flooring were last.
Although the designer offered a finish date of 60 days, the completed room took about 5 months. The fact that there were a couple of hurricanes and an earthquake were nothing compared to the delays caused by the local building inspectors. We asked for a covered, screened, floored deck for entertaining. It was not difficult to convince us to buy up to the floor-to-ceiling vinyl window enclosures that allow a much more seasonal use of the space. A fireplace addition also increased usability. The deck is enormous, beautiful, and ready for company.
