Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel, General Remodeling + 1 more
.It did not go well. Missed six days over the course of the construction with lame excuses ie car trouble, it MIGHT rain etc. He did not have the experience he claimed to have when it came to the handrails, The steps and rails did not meet code. The pickets on the handrails are spaced randomly, they are not even(straight up/down),also used two different styles of rails. On the steps he had miscut the rails and the pickets were way off. He also plugged holes where pickets were supposed to be because he didnt measure correctly so the top and bottom did not line up. Also on the step handrails, the top rails were not at uniform heights On the steps risers are required if the space between steps is over 4". I had to pay someone else to do this. On the steps to the landing he used four stringers. On the steps from the landing down he used three stringers and these steps give if a heavy person walks on them. For the treads he used the decking which was grooved on the edges instead of the proper tread boards which looked awful and created a trip hazard. He tried to cover this up by scabbing 4x10" or so boards on the sides of the steps. After about two weeks the boards started separating from the steps and also splitting in two.He told me a crew would be here everyday until the job was done. His crew consisted of him and his wife who was mainly a clean up person. HE REFUSED TO COME BACK TO MY HOME AND ADDRESS ANY PROBLEMS I FOUND. After several texts and phone conversations he blocked my number on his phones. I have since had to find other contractors who were willing to work behind someone else. this is not an easy task. I now have someone lined up to replace the shoddy handrails he installed. I am filing a claim in small claims court to try and recover my losses.
UPDATE-I WON MY SMALL CLAIMS CASE. HE NEVER DEFENDED HIS BAD WORK. HE SPENT HIS WHOLE CASE BAD MOUTHING ME, THE CUSTOMER! CLAIMED I WAS "DIFFICULT". YES I WAS, IF BEING DIFFICULT MEANS ASKING SOMEONE TO FIX PROBLEMS AS THE ARISE. I WILL NEVER HIRE ANOTHER "CONTRACTOR" WITHOUT REFERENCES
