My car was throwing some engine codes and needed a warranty repair, and the dealership did the warranty work (or said they examined it and didn't actually need to do anything). They said the engine code was a 'transient' problem like a loose gas cap and if it was still doing it 'next time you come in' they'd take a deeper look. So i assumed the car was fixed even though i'd had the engine light come on because the dealer told me not to worry. Then after i drove off the light was still coming on and within a couple weeks my car started spewing oil! So a serious problem that the dealership should have detected when i brought it in with an engine code, that could have wrecked my engine entirely if i hadn't noticed a thin stream of oil on the pavement when i started to back up the car one morning. So at this point i was furious at the dealership for telling me the engine code was 'no big deal'.
So i called Rick's instead of the dealership because i not longer trusted the dealership, and was very pleasantly surprised... they arranged to have my car towed, and I was fully convinced i would have a huge bill because i never left the dealership for less than $1000, and thought this might be a blown engine. But the total cost including towing was only $350! They found the problem, replaced oil sensor/switch, did an oil change/service and rotated my tires. And i've been driving with no more engine codes so they resolved a problem the dealership ignored. that could have cost me BIG money if i hadn't noticed the oil leak myself.
They were fast, efficient, and HONEST and didn't gouge or overcharge me and did a better job at diagnosis and repair than the dealership ever did which is a real pleasure and a pleasant surprise. I will definitely use them. They are busy, but honest as to whether they can get you in or not on a given day. I see aother customer complained in a review below about having to use a rental car during a repair, but i would honestly pay $50 for an extra day for a rental if they couldn't fix it in a day to save getting gouged $1000 at a dealership that didn't actually fix the car!
I took my car to Ricks to get a simple timing chain replacement done on Thursday 2/16/12. I knew this repair would be an all day job so I rented a car. I was originally told the repair would be $420.00. When my husband and I went shopping the day after we dropped the car off we got a phone call from Ricks, stating please come by the parts we have are wrong. It took them all day to find the parts and we were told on Friday that they are closed on the weekends and wouldn't have the new parts until Monday or Tuesday. This one day repair turned into a 6 day repair. With the rental care price now at $360.00. Then we are told that our $420.00 quote went to $1000.00. Having told them cost is fine just get the job done, we left the car to come back Tuesday to pick it up. Tuesday night my husband came to get the car and as soon as he went down the road the check engine light came on. Something was clearly still wrong. The next day he called Ricks and they told him they didn't know what was wrong bring it back in. They took 3 hours checking with their computer sensor to see what was wrong with it. Still no clue. Rick himself told us to bring it back the next day and he would give us a loaner car. We did. The loaner car also was clearly having issues. The brake light was on and everytime you went to stop the car would skid, and the steering wheel would shake when you went over 55 miles per hour. Rick called us and said they needed another day, we said ok. So we go to pick the car up and guess what is still on.. the check engine light. Still these guys supposedly mechanics had no clue what they did wrong or how to fix it. The total cost of this $420.00 repair has currently gone up to $1200.00 and my car is worse now than it was before. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND YOUR CAR WILL NOT WORK AFTER THEY TOUCH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today is March the 3rd the check engine light on my car is still on and my husband and I are still fighting with these idiots to figure out and fix their mistakes. Rick is awful he is lazy and seems to have no clue as to what is going on in his repair shop, that has HIS freaking name on the door. Why own a company A. if you dont know how to treat other people and B. if you don't know what the h*** you or your crew are doing???
Rick please retire and move to Florida. You have no clue!!!!!!!!!!
