The technicians came out the following week and installed the units and corrected all the duct work for better air flow. The tech's were all courteous, informative, answered all my questions and Charles wanted to make sure everything was done to my satisfaction.
Though we haven't had any bitter cold yet, the Trane XV95 furnace has been great. I had the old "one stage" furnace where the heat would come on full blast one degree lower than what the temperature was set at and go off one degree higher than the set point. With the two stage, variable speed blower, it has only used the first stage with a low blower speed. It's so quite you hardly know the heat came on and has stayed at the same temperature. No temperature swings.
I highly recommend Bill Harlow and Stafford Heating and Air for their excellent work.

"Thank you for your review. I'm glad that our technician was able to quickly resolve your problem. Bill"
I met with Bill Harlow (Sales/Service) and he went through all of the options based on the space available I had for the upstairs unit (small hallway closet). I decided to go with their recommendation of a 15.5 SEER Trane system, and after a couple days for the company to acquire all of the equipment, one installation technician arrived at my house around 9:00 AM to begin preparation work on the upstairs air handler. He explained exactly what the plan was for the installation and said that a second technician would arrive at 11:00 AM to begin work on the outside heat pump. The second technician arrived on-time and by the time I had checked again both the indoor and outdoor systems were installed and preparations were underway to add coolant and begin testing.
Work proceeded as normal and ended around 4:30 PM that afternoon after an extensive test of the system and an explanation of all of the features of the thermostat, how to access and change the filter in the air handler, and what would happen with the first maintenance contract visit six months later. Bill Harlow arrived around mid-day to ensure that the installation was proceeding normally, and this was something that I greatly appreciated.
The entire process went very smoothly and was totally stress-free. Both the inside and outside of the house were cleaned up and it looked like no one had been there, except for the fact that I'm no longer freezing while sleeping now.
We had several ducts in various locations receiving little to no airflow, most notably, two of the upstairs bedrooms. The best the heat pump could do in the best case scenario was keep the upstairs about 10 degrees above outside air temperature, so if it was 95 degrees outside, it was 85-86 upstairs, even after sunset!!
After ensuring the heat pump was working correctly and had the proper rated output (tonnage) for the home, he examined the upstairs ducting installed by the builder, called "flex duct".
In several instances, the work was not routed by the most direct route from the vents to the HVAC unit, and in one case, the ducting was wrapped 180 degrees away from the direction of the vent it was servicing. Bill provided a quote and scheduled work within a week of the visit--impressive since he had a full plate of work in early June.
The main flex duct running the length of the house was removed and replaced with 10 inch, insulated steel duct. Various flex duct running to closets and bathrooms were shortened, and a more direct route of duct was used from the unit to the vents running to the hot bedrooms. As a result, we had dramatically improved airflow to the master bedroom, as well as improved airflow and cooling to the front bedrooms, which face the west as the afternoon sun bears down.
Mr Harlow's crew was courteous, efficient, and took the time to answer all of my questions without complaint. I highly recommend Stafford Heating and Air to all, and will have them back for Fall tune-up--Excellent Work.
After 4 months, I had had problems with the Trane unit purchased - a factory defect in welding the evaporator coil that goes in the air handler. Initially, the leak source was not detected; was refilled, lasted a month, then a LARGE leak was detected, a bad weld, and new evaporator was ordered. Trane did NOT treat this as a priority. After a week, the WRONG UNIT replacement was provided.
This was still not treated as a priority, and so I waited another week. The replacement was finally made and unit is now working well.
Bill (the owner) tries to do the right thing, but didn't do enough to require the replacement unit be delivered quickly. When I complained, he said that "priority shipping of $350 would be at customer expense." I was without A/C for 2 1/2 weeks. Once the unit did arrive, it was installed promptly.
All in all, if you are going to have work done, request Jerry (first) and Charles (second); I would take a pass on Chris - tough to trust him. I believe Bill is a honorable guy albeit a small business owner that has been hit by the economic downturn. A small operation with limited personnel.
I would not recommend the Trane unit due to my experiences.
