Preferred Construction did an outstanding job repairing my front porch! Carlos was upfront about pricing, quick to schedule a full day’s work, and even came by the house the day before to make sure there were no surprises that he and his team couldn’t deal with! I am definitely keeping them on my short list for any home repairs that I can’t handle!

Recently my boyfriend and I decided to move in together. While I had a fair amount of closets, they were not configured in a way that maximized the space. The doors in 3 closets were far too small and most of the volume of the closets was wasted. This was a high stress job for me for a lot of reasons. Carlos and his crew worked around my home furnishings, covering and cleaning each day and then removing coverings when then left. They worked around my dog as well. The large closet had VERY large custom barn doors that they made themselves. Getting it all right was a heavy design job that is WAY beyond "handyman" work. We had a couple small miscommunications (that was nobody's fault) and everything was made right *immediately*. My biggest fear was having things wrong and having to argue or fight for the perfect solution I wanted. We are both very happy w our new spaces and we even have space to spare! I cannot stress enough how incredibly professional Carlos and his team were. You can always get in touch with them. We were living there during the construction, they were amazing. The end result was beautiful craftsmanship. I will be using Carlos and his team for any and all work I have going forward. Strongly recommend Preferred Construction and Carlos.

First things first: Carlos and his team are worth every penny. Carlos will be the first to tell you that he is not cheapest, and that is true. But it's also true that I went with another cheaper contractor and it was a disaster. Carlos ended up fixing half the stuff that was wrong. Another reality is that if you are doing work you are likely not a professional and sometimes describing what you want is hard and you will need feedback from your contractor. Carlos is excellent at this and did 2 walkthroughs at my place before they started work. He was communicative on schedule and I had pricing before the job started. Because I am not a pro I added scope to the job twice, mid work. I did not notice any disruption. It is also possible that not everything will be *exactly* how you want it. The difference between most contractors is that Carlos sent his crew back *the next day* to correct the small error. Things are going to happen. You want someone that will recover and make it right. We're extremely happy we chose Carlos and his team for our basement renovation and front porch rebuild! He was responsive and communication was straightforward from start to finish. The end result is just what we wanted, and Carlos and Fryda gave us some great ideas to achieve the look we were going for. The finished work has a high-quality finish that we're really pleased with. Considering our house is over 100 years old, the ways in which they adeptly handled the inevitable quirks and challenges was impressive. Hiring Preferred Construction was the best decision we made for this project. From the first meeting to the final inspection, Carlos and his team were top-notch. The work they did was excellent, their knowledge and suggestions were great, and their work ethic was beyond reproach. I can't say enough good things about them. Suffice it to say, we are already planning to have them work on our next project.

Carlos and his team installed new carpets and LVP flooring in my home. Their work was extremely professional, reasonably priced and the floors look amazing! The living room is a whole new space now. Preferred Construction remodeled several bathrooms, a kitchen, and installed flooring in our basement. There show up on time, are reasonably priced, communicated with me every step of the way, and their work is flawless. I could not have been more pleased and would recommend them to anyone.

Carlos and his team are amazing to work with! He's great at sticking to a reasonable budget and timeline and communicates clearly and effectively when things need to change. He has come in early once or twice when we were working with him. We have used him for several projects over the past 6 years from a small flooring update to a full kitchen renovation. We have recommended him to friends and we recommend him to anyone in the DC area. Before is the lower image. His team removed carpet from our home which had been there for 50 years. The wood underneath was rough but they were able to make it look new (top image).

Carlos and his team were very professional, friendly and prompt. Their first project was to build a walk-in closet in the owner’s suite. Carlos provided a project summary, which included the steps in the process, the estimated costs, schedule and other terms. The closet came out amazing and we are happy we have more space to hang our clothes and store other things! We would both recommend and rehire Carlos and his team!

We are very happy with the project. The worked started on time and finished before schedule. The workers were clean and courteous, used good materials, and finished the work to a high standard. We will definitely have Carlos and his team at the top of our list for any new work at our house.

Carlos and his team did a great job doing a full basement apartment remodel. They brought everything down to the studs and built it into a modern apartment including the bathroom and kitchen. They offered great pricing for the value I received. This was remodeling an English basement apartment in the historic Capitol Hill district in Washington, DC. You always find snags working with old houses and Carlos presented good solutions to each problem. I would use them again.

Amazing!!! Carlos and his crew were everything a homeowner could ask for when it came to planning, demolishing, and renovating a bathroom. The price was right and the crew was very professional. Additionally, the crew cleaned up the site every day. This was a plus given we were living through the renovation. Carlos and his team were punctual and communicated regularly on the status of the job. What’s even better is it came in under budget and quicker than initially expected. We will definitely use Preferred Construction for our next home improvement project!
