Went very well. Found it was operator error.

Merrymen's is the quintessential old town garage. I don't believe I have seen a mechanic there below the age of 30. In an age when I question everything a dealership recommends doing, and run a Google check on the list, I just leave the car with these mechanics. They don't work on something that is not needed, and they warn you if you should do something that will save you money. They are on average 30% less expensive than the dealerships. If a part is better obtained from a salvage yard such as a a wheel rim, they will recommend the salvage yard part. If the part needs to come from the Lexus dealer in Richmond, they will call the Lexus dealer in Richmond.
I have four cars in the family. They vary in mileage from 40,000 to 190000. The only vehicle they do not work on is the hybrid. They have told me they will change oil on the hybrid, but won't touch the engine. They are open only on week days from about 7:30 to 5:30. In the four years I have been going to Merrymen's, they have always done a first rate job. They are one of the best kept secrets of Fredericksburg.
Don't expect free coffee and a loaner car. Just expect great work at a fair price.

I have been taking my car to Merryman's for well over a decade. This business consistently provides excellent work at a fair price. I typically drop my car off in the morning (get there as early as possible--they mostly work on the cars in the order they come in), and walk to work. Merryman's is nicely located in downtown Fredericksburg to make that possible. At some point in the day (depending on how early I took the car in, and on the amount of work that needs to be done), I get a call saying what's wrong and how much it will cost to fix it or that the car is ready to be picked up. There is also a waiting room. I have frequently recommended Merryman's to others, and twice people have reported back to me that Merryman's charged significantly less for their major work than the estimates that they received elsewhere.

We bought our car in for an inspection. I had mentioned that a different shop said I needed a new altinator. Their mechanic said it was probably a belt, and he was right - saved me a bundle!

I really appreciated their honesty. They only changed one spark plug which was all I needed rather than what most places would have done which is change all 8. I know that they will never do unnecessary work. They always do impeccable work and I definitely recommend them to others.
