I selected Steve Kidd to build my custom retirement house after learning his excellent reputation from other Botetourt County residents. And I'm sure glad I did! I was living and working in northern Virginia at the time, so had to heavily rely on him communicating over this distance most of the time. Steve was always extremely prompt and professional with all communications by phone and email. He directed Les Bowman as the lead carpenter for my house, but Steve led all activities. Because this was a custom home, my wife and I had several special things we wanted incorporated, and Steve readily accepted the challenge. He came up with workable solutions, giving me unbiased alternatives to choose from whenever possible. Steve earned my trust; everything I asked him to do, he did. And many solutions saved me money! Every subcontractor he selected for this job (plumbing, electrical, roofing, plastering, painting, etc.) performed excellent work or came back until the work passed his high standards. And where there were gray areas in the construction code, Steve convinced the county building inspector to interpret them in my favor, saving me time and money. When weather and subcontractor non-availability delays caused house completion to extend past my move-in date, Steve negotiated with the local trucking company that moved my household goods to keep them on the trailer until move-in--at no additional cost to me! Overall, Steve gave me more quality than I expected and kept under the budget we had agreed on. I do not hesitate in giving Steve Kidd my highest recommendation as a superior general contractor and home builder.
