Jorge Sorto and his people did an incredible job. We did not discover until the brick walls were removed that there was an air void under the slab at the end as much as 18 to 24 inches. The concrete slab was actually hanging on air at the end and where it was resting on the brick walls, had caused the walls to be pushed out.
The dirt fill that was still there also fell where the walls were removed. Fortunately, Jorge only removed enough brick on the three sides to build concrete piers in five places on which to rest steel beams to carry the weight of the concrete slab. He built up new concrete blocks along the three sides and this with the five block piers provided the certainty that this problem would not reoccur in the future. Dirt fill that fell out was put back in..... and even if it settles in the future, my aggregate concrete slab is not going to drop again or damage my new brick walls since between the concrete block piers and steel beams, support is more than adequate.
The brick work on the new walls was beautiful. And, amazingly, the walls were exactly the height of the top of the aggregate slab.....instead of protruding above the slab floor 1/2 to 1 inch. No need to attempt a "slab jacking" which could damage my new walls....And you cannot tell that there was ever a problem with the slab lower than the brick walls..
The forethought in avoiding a disaster was very important ..... but also very important was the quality and beauty of the brickwork.
Again.....I am delighted.....and would definitely use him again in the future.
