SAFETY WINDOW

Safety Glass & Doors arrived to replace the glass in mid November. This was a one-man crew. The man could not replace the glass. Two more men from SG&D arrived to help him. They determined that they had ordered new glass that was too thick for my wood. They re-ordered new glass for all 15 windows at their expense; the new glass was 1/16" smaller in thickness. They claimed they broke one of these windows while it was stored in their warehouse, and replaced it for a second time. Because the glazing boot on the first window was ruined, they agreed to use new boots if I could find new boots at my expense. Builders First in Point of Rocks, MD sold me custom boots in the right color and size for $15/boot. Then SG&D arranged for a new installation day, in mid January. They increased the price of the contract by $150 to compensate for the cold day. Having said that, the two men did try hard and by the end of the day, all 15 windows had new glass and new boots, and all windows worked and all sparkled. SG&D was the only company that I could find that was willing to replace my glass, and they eventually replaced the glass as promised. They accepted my request to use my custom boots. They were courteous and hard working. They used caution not to damage the windows' dry wood excessively while they pried, cut, and hammered the sashes apart. The price was fair.

Someone tossed a rock through my front windows on Christmas eve. I called Safety Window for replacement, we agreed on the price, and date. The work was done, while I was in the house, with no apparent problem until I noticed that the interior of the storm window and the exterior of the inside window were dirty and smudged from the installation process. I pointed this out to the contractor and he said that they did not clean windows. I said that I would have cleaned the window before the installation and he just shrugged. I asked him how I could get access to the interior of the window space and he admitted it was a difficult process, but then said he would come the next day to help with the process. No surprise, he did not return or call.
