We chose Potts and Chapa because they were on a list of contractors we could use under a home renovation loan. They regularly overcharged us for materials - for example, they'd bring in standard doors that cost $100-150 at Home Depot and charged us $300 per door. Their workers also told us that when they got materials for free, Tom and John would charge us for them still. When we raised this with them they would just tell us we were wrong but they wouldn't provide us with any receipts. They would be upset if we didn't choose their vendors. We ended up ordering our own cabinets that were better quality and half the price. They were then installed poorly -they cracked the wood on the inside by not pre-drilling holes before screwing the cabinets together. Neither Tom Chapa or John Potts were on site very much throughout the project - so as a result there was a lack of oversight and some of the work was done improperly or poorly. They often said our job was very small for their business as they tend to do $500,000 jobs or more...as if to imply our job wasn't worth their time, but it was a very expensive job for us. For example, their contractors ran the AC lines from the AC unit across our grass in our back yard and busted holes through our deck (never fixed) and into the house rather than running the line into the side of the house where the unit was located, which kept the lines hidden. They built the opening for the stackable washer and dryer so tight they had to break through the dry wall to plug it in- and they wouldn't come back to level our washer and dryer so it rocked our house for weeks. When we told them about these problems, they returned to fix them, but only after a lot of arguing back and forth. They also never cleaned up after themselves. They didn't even take all the debris from the job - I had to fill my car with debris and take it to one of their other sights that had a dumpster. Towards the end of the job, they just stopped showing up. No one showed up to finish the work for about 4 weeks. One of the most frustrating things though was that they would send us condescending emails where half the words were in caps. It was an incredibly frustrating and bad experience.

Potts and Chapa Construction was extremely unprofessional and dishonest.  They touted a 12-month warranty to guarantee their work, but after our project was final billed they tried to add an additional $3,000 in bogus charges, which we heard about months later and only after we asked them to honor their warranty.  Because we refuse to pay these bogus charges, they refuse to honor the promised warranty.  We were told our project would take 3 months, it took 6 months because of a total lack of project management on their part.  They repeatedly destroyed our personal property and treated our personal items as their own.  They were totally unreliable, repeatedly going 3 or 4 days at a time without showing up at our house (other than to use the dumpster we were paying them for to drop off debris from other projects they were working on).  They subcontracted out much of their work, but then refused to oversee their subcontractors.  We were warned by their previous clients that Potts and Chapa charges significant markups on the materials they supply, which was definitely the case.  They also failed repeatedly to secure our house at the end of the work day (even when knowing we were out of town), leaving doors and windows OPEN (not simply unlocked) to the outside world.  When we filed a complaint with the BBB (which is ongoing) Tom Chapa essentially responded by saying that my family's $120k project was too small to warrant Potts and Chapa's full attention.  I wish they would have told us that before they signed the contract!  Avoid Potts and Chapa at all costs.  There are reliable and honest contractors out there.  Unfortunately, Potts and Chapa isn't one of them!
