Keys Contracting

Mr Keys provided a catalog of various railing. posts, and spindles for us to choose. He carefully sanded and stained the banisters and rail to match our new hardwod floor and the new hardwood on the stairs. Spindles were painted white. Mr Keys scheduled installation on a Saturday at no extra charge so we could attend an out of town graduation. Thank you so much!

My husband and I contacted Mr. Keys on June 2 to replace a banister in our home. Mr. Keys promptly came to our house to look at the job and give us an estimate. At that time, we informed him that our timeline was very tight and that we needed the work completed by mid-June. He told us he could do the work during that time and that he would stop by later that week to pick up our deposit. When he dropped by to get our check, he said that he would start the project soon. He later returned and said that he would begin the project sometime on Friday, June 13 or Sunday, June 15. To make a long story short, he said he would do the job on five different days and didn’t show up on any of them. He also didn’t call and we had to chase him down in order to schedule a different time. When it became obvious that he wasn’t going to do the work during the time period promised, I informed him that we were no longer interested in his services and that we expected our deposit to be returned. We offered to pay for the cost of any materials he had purchased provided he showed us an invoice. Not surprisingly, he kept our deposit and we've never heard from him again. I would advise against hiring Mr. Keys for any project. With so many reliable, trustworthy contractors out there, why would anyone want to hire someone who is feckless, irresponsible and disreputable.

We contacted James Keys personally in August of 2013 on the recommendation of our wood floor / carpet installers as someone who could change our carpet-only stairs to the correct format for wooden stairs, and then adjust our banister for the difference in rise that would occur. He sent us out his estimate and we put a deposit down for $700. After about 2 weeks, we discovered that we would have to carpet, not place wood down on, our stairs and therefore no longer needed his services due to a financial set-back during construction. Therefore, we requested our deposit back. He assured me it would take only 2 weeks to secure it from his account and send it to me. To make a long story short, we still have not received our deposit even though we have contacted him about 15 times and have had the carpet company that recommended him call him on our behalf. Sadly, we will contacting a lawyer. Obviously we don't know the quality of his work, but sadly, his dishonest reputation will negate whatever good reputation he has built up.

Mr. Keys did a beautiful job installing a new kitchen. Some of the cabinets arrived with defects which he was able to fix and then install. He had to work around existing flooring and backsplash which required significant height adjustments. It all fit together perfectly when he was done...He also replaced several studs in a wall, sub flooring, drywall, and trim....Everything he did was done with precision and attention to detail...In that I had a significant time constraint that I was working with, he fit me into his schedule as he could, for which I was extremely grateful! If I have any need for carpentry work in the future, I will call Mr. Keys.

Incredible work, great attention to all details, extremely careful and unrushed in his work. Molding fits perfectly, corners perfect. Took great care in installing bath vanity fitting flush to wall which required cutting ceramic molding on floor, etc. Recessed cabinet required a lot of carpentry work since old cabinet was not recessed - fits perfectly and true. Took care to make sure electrical outlet was in a location that was convenient for my use. I really love the bathroom now. James is a real perfectionist, which causes him to underestimate the time required, but since he provides a fixed price, I was all too happy to have the job done right, first shot. His pricing was below the competition, and we felt all his charges were very reasonable. His warm and gracious wife is his helper and they make a great team. They clearly love what they do! That is a huge plus when it comes to doing a good job. Turned over our house keys to them, as they are completely trustworthy. He is very reasonably priced even at an hourly rate, when the job is not a fixed price one. I watched him paint the crown molding without painters tape! - an incredibly steady hand. He said he learned the technique from his dad who he was in business many years before he took it over himself. Obviously he is a full service contractor, painting, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc. One thing my wife and I really liked was the fact that he gave us the bathroom vanity, sink, faucet and cabinet at cost (a sizable discount from list price) - no markup so he could pocket it! I don't believe you are going to find anyone better at what he does. We have hired him back to replace some shingles and rotted wood on our shed. We will use Key's contracting for all our future work, you can be sure!
