Everything went well with Hooper, not so much with Roto-Rooter. After having Roto-Rooter come out twice over a year and a half period (they initially believed that it couldn't be roots because it was PVC and did not use a camera to check) to snake our drain, and then when they recognized the root problem, they quoted us $12k for this work. David S Hooper came recommended a plumber we've used before and liked, and Hooper quoted us $4.5k for the same work that Roto-Rooter did, and then we also worked out another $2k for an old plastic water line, that we knew needed replacing at some point, since they were already digging up our yard. Despite some unluckiness with the timing of when inspectors arrived (you can request an inspector on a day, but cannot request a specific time), the work was done as agreed upon, and I'm happy to say that both Hoopers (father and son) were very personable, reasonable, and professional. Especially after the ridiculous quote given by Roto-Rooter, I would certainly recommend Hooper to others.

Far exceeded my expectations: fair price, diagnosis of problem, good relationships with Fairfax County Inspectors, excellent workmanship, outstanding service and communication, did not cut corners and made a terrible situation much easier to deal with and responded exactly on the times they said they would call and arrived on time each time....even on a Saturday!

I met Mr. Hooper ~10 years ago. He assisted me with a sewage draining issue that was not resolvable by a highly recognizable plumbing outfit. He also sent me the contact of a another plumbing service who dealt with commercial jobs. They corrected the problem. Mr. Hooper, Sr. never sent me a bill. When I received a $550 water bill, I called Mr Hooper, Sr. Within a few days his son arrived and replaced my incoming water line. I paid a little extra for a copper water line replacement. The crew was hard working, courteous, and did not seem to mind my interest in the repair process. I did not pursue other contractors. I already knew they did this work for a living and would be on call if anything went wrong. So I don't know if I paid too much or too little, but so far, I am happy.

The overall experience was fantastic. David Jr. worked the backhoe oversaw the entire job. The dirt was firmly packed down, and hay and grass were laid on the front lawn.

Worked primarily with Hooper Jr., who was frank and honest throughout the process. Job was finished in two days as expected. Price was lower than other quotes we received, and the work was done within the price range estimated.
Hooper also used their camera to inspect the entire line from the house to the town's main line, identifying (and showing me on screen) another looming problem that we will need to take care of in the near future -- sad news that the problem exists, but I was glad to have learned of it before it results in a real backup.
As a side note: in addition to restoring the part of the driveway they had to dig up, Hooper also used some of their excess asphalt to smooth over the nearby cracked end of our driveway -- a kind gesture that I had not asked them to do, and that they did not charge for.

Hooper called me back in 20 minutes and was on site 35 minutes after that. Problem was resolved within half an hour.

We had a collapsed sewer line in the middle of the yard, presumably caused by soil/root settling after the earthquake. They came out for an estimate the day after we called and were the cheapest of 3 estimates we had. They started the next day. Then they did not work 2 days due to rain, and did not work the weekend because they do not work weekends. There were a few problems along the way - some of which weather related, some of which due to broken tools and other issues they had... all causing it to take longer than we had hoped (took 1.5 weeks total, but most evenings they hooked up a temporary line for use). The biggest complaint in the end (other than having no sewage for this time) was that they didn't use a plastic tarp to dump the extraction dirt onto, so additional grass damage occurred. However, they did seed/hay afterwards, which will resolve that problem over time (after it warms up).

It was a water intake from the Arlington County in to the house. Water was leaking underground, and it was important to take care of that quickly. They came and dug up the lawn and replaced it with copper pipe, which solved the problem. They did a pretty good job. They are a father-son duo. The son was the on-site manager and did a lot of the work himself. My experience with them was fine. I was impressed with them.

My outside line from the county water supply to my home sprang a leak and left me without water. Over the previous three months the line had been repaired twice in different spots by a different plumber. This time the entire PVC line from street to house needed to be replaced. I chose copper pipe so this problem would not reoccur. I had several estimates, all in the same general price range, but the others wanted to use heavy equipment to dig a trench and said in doing so they would have to cut about two feet off the branches of my neighbors trees. They also warned of possible driveway damage. David Hooper, on the other hand, burrowed a trench with hand machinery and left no mark of his presence. As these holes were dug he was careful to cordon them off with bright orange barrier fencing to protect the neighborhood children and others. He was timely, courteous, professional, and his work was clean and well done. I highly recommend this company, and would use them again in a flash.

MY HUSBAND AND I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE SATISFIED WITH THE JOB THAT WAS DONE. THE WORKERS WERE VERY PUNCTUAL AND COMPLETED THE JOBS WITHIN A VERY REASONABLE TIME FRAME.
