We have now been in our condo for almost a year, and there is not a single thing we would change - we did have the luxury of time (living in our apt until all the work was finished), but that creates other kinds of stress providing time to second-guess decisions. His suppliers were quite cooperative; the silestone in the kitchen was done twice, since the first effort did not match his standards which are high. The cabinetry company that he works with did some fabulous custom work that was impeccable. He also has a broad local network of specialists to call on -- really superb craftspeople to handle such items as granite selection, stone cutting, carpeting, glass shelving, custom countertops in unusual materials, even intricate electrical switching and other odd but useful arrangements that suited us.
Jim was supportive and encouraging and his crew was wonderful. He was always reachable, and his prime guy-on-site Tim Starr (one of his leads) was meticulous, detail oriented, and a superb craftsman in any medium. He custom-built cabinets in our bar area, created perfect curves in a marble arch, laid the stone for the decorative wall, custom cut marble/slate floor in powder room, and took on various small projects that helped make this place the home we love!
As usual with projects like this, there were delays, mostly due to materials that were back-ordered or the wrong item ordered or delivered. So instead of two to three weeks, the job took five weeks, beginning to end. The bath was usable (except for lacking a shower rod) at 2 1/2 weeks or so. We think Laurie's attention to detail during the project work could be improved, but we don't know to what extent the and quot;wrong partand quot; issues were attributable to her vs. the suppliers. Laurie was also our project lead when Courthouse did our kitchen remodel about eight years ago, and we had similar minor problems then.
Responsiveness was good early on, but declined a bit toward the end. I think we should have tried to get a bigger and quot;holdbackand quot; written into the contract. Courthouse could have been more proactive at following up on missing/wrong parts, but we seem to have gone off their radar once the last big payment (and quot;working bathand quot;) was made and they only had about $1K remaining at stake.
Overall, we would use Courthouse again (this was our second job with them), and I suspect that the minor problems we experienced could happen with any contractor.
Recently, we had an issue with one of our cabinet doors (3 years after the remodel). Courthouse Kitchens and Bath was very responsive and assisted in replacing it immediately.
Very much recommended!
The cost of the project was high, but they finished the kitchen in the amount of time promised with high quality workmanship.
A couple of years after Courthouse completed the kitchen, I hired them to remodel a bathroom. This project was less satisfactory than the kitchen remodel. It was not unsatisfactory, but it was not as happy an undertaking as the first remodel. The cost of the bathroom was much higher, comparatively, and the schedule was not as conscientiously followed. There were a few more scheduling gaps and a few more issues that needed correction, When the new tub was installed, it opened a hole in the ceiling of the bathroom below it. I was not pleased with the patch job (a square of wallboard) they used to cover the hole. Overall, the cost of the bathroom remodel was higher than the quality of the workmanship.
