Response from Tom Hoover Siding & Windows
"In todays technological society, I find it all to easy for someone with a keyboard to write such a negative review of our company. First and foremost, (memner name removed) never called us to do a roof repair last year or any year. How can we warranty something when we didn't receive a service call. Second, We did (member name removed) roof 18 years ago, with a 25 year shingle and contract date of July of 1996. We pulled a permit through Fairfax County and it was inspected and passed after its completion (Permit #96211B0140). All of our contracts state a 5 year workmanship warranty but Tom, who takes great pride in his work, will and does continue warranties well after if needed and even transfers them to new owners. Being that its now 18 years since (member name removed) roof was installed with no leaks within that time frame. Wear and tear, natural elements, etc., the only reason I can see that she needs a new roof is due to the natural deterioration of the 25 year shingle itself. Homeowners do have some responsibility with annual upkeep of their properties that assist the longevity of all products installed/applied on/to their homes. (i.e., keep trees trimmed, clean gutters, and inspect after major storms, power washing, etc.) If (member name removed) had given us a call we would have come to her home to assist with the issue at hand. Considering its now deteriorating age, Tom probably would have recommended that she replace the roof. As far as the nails shooting straight through the roof, I would like to think that the Fairfax County Inspector or the fact that it didn't leak for the 18 years it was in existence should be proof enough that nails did not penetrate through the entire shingle. Shingles falling or being blown off after this amount of time is not the result of poor workmanship but in fact due to age and the amount of high winds our area has sustained over the last year or so. The window job was contracted November of 1998 and (member name removed) did have some issues with IG units in her windows fogging several years later. As the company that constructed the windows was no longer in business, we called an ex-employee of the Company (Classic Window Systems) and asked for his assistance with repairs. Several visits later, the problem, was to our knowledge, solved. As we are window installers and not the manufacturers, some things are just out of our hands. But again, we do follow up with all of our warranty work no matter what time limit has passed. As far as Tom not returning phone calls or refusing warranty work, its this simple. We would not be in business for almost 35 years, have an A+ Rating with the Better Business Bureau with no Complaints for the entire 35 years or simply be in business especially in this economy, without returning phone calls and doing warranty work when necessary and showing up on time. We call the night before to remind our homeowners we are coming. We have lived amongst our customers since 1992 in the Greenbriar Neighborhood and it is our pleasure to work and live amongst you. I am sorry that (member name removed) seems to think that we are responsible in any way for the deterioration of her home since we did the above contracted work. We have contracted work with (member name removed) several times but none since 2003 and I find it interesting that she waits until 2014 to complain about her roof that was completed in 1996. Like I said before, anyone with a keyboard can hide behind it and say what they wish with no reprimand but we the contractors have the burden of defending ourselves against them. I am grateful to our customer who contacted me concerning this review from (member name removed). At least I had a brief moment to defend our companies reputation. I have all copies of contracts, permits and inspections completed and will produce them upon demand. Regards, Tom and Hannah Hoover Owners Tom Hoover Contracting Thank you for allowing me to respond to this review."

We have used Tom several times over two houses and about 20 years. We always have great results with him. He is very responsive and conscientious about doing a good job. He stands behind his work and if there are any problems, he's there right away to fix them. Sometimes his price is a little higher than others, but we feel the quality deserves it.

My experience with his work went very well. Tom has always been very prompt. He has always done a very good job. He is local and I have used him before. He has done some roof work and some gutter work for me. His people always take a look and make sure that if there are little extras that they can do while they are there. I have had other companies give me prices but since they were going to do things differently, it was more. It is a little hard when each person who looks at a job is going to handle it differently. It’s not like they are pricing the same thing. However, he gave me back what I needed without having to take the house apart and put it back together. I also had estimates from companies who wanted to do all the siding on the house, which would have been very expensive. I thought I got a very good deal from Tom. He came in and had his senior person come in to take care of it. It looks very nice. They called in advance, they called when they got here and they let me know how long it would take them. They had it all cleaned up and gone before the afternoon as over.
