After class she wants to watch the Nutcracker Ballet on TV so she can dance along with it. So precious!
She was at another ballet school where the teacher didn't seem interested in teaching small children. Tiny Dancers makes it clear that they love to teach children. Because their program is so well done the children love to learn. I can't say enough good things about this excellent program.
The only negative comment I have is with regard to the studio management. They insisted that parents come to a meeting in lieu of the dance lesson itself which was on a Wednesday at 6:00 to discuss details on the recital. I could not attend because of work that week. I did not think this would be the end of the world because surely they would just send out that information via email or post it on the website. Instead, I was told by an individual named and quot;Bethand quot; that parents were required to come to the meeting to write down all of the details because they were not going to be sending anything out.
I've never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life. I cannot possibly be the only parent who had to work that evening and couldn't make it. Instead I asked my Finnish au pair to attend and she did the best she could....but she'd just arrived from Finland and her English was not great for rapidly writing down dance lingo and costume specifics.
The other incident that was unpleasant was during the recital itself -- this was another email sent by Beth. Two parent volunteers were required for the Saturday dance rehearsal and the Sunday recital in the dressing room to sit with the girls. Twice we were sent emails stating that our class did not have any parent volunteers and if we did not pony up our girls would not be able to perform in the recital. (Mind you the tuition includes all of the recital fees and costume fees....so I have no idea how she thought she was actually going to parse out those fees and refund them. It would have been impossible.) But it really upset me that they could be making that threat in class to the girls. I responded to the email and said I could volunteer as one of the parents on Sunday, but not Saturday because of another obligation.
Beth replied that if I couldn't do both days they would rather not have me as a volunteer, however, if they didn't receive two parent volunteers the girls would not be performing. I pointed out that she would then be attempting to refund quite a large amount in costume and recital fees to 14 families and received a reply that and quot;she would allow me to volunteer on Sunday onlyand quot;.
Amazingly enough the recital was great, everything went smoothly and there were already so many parents in that dressing room that it was overwhelming. I remain impressed with the instructors and my daughter loves it. As mentioned I've signed her up for next year. But this time I know I've just decided to make that compromise and deal with the unprofessional emails from this one person.
