All items identified in the initial walk-though addressed. Took almost a full day as expected, new LEDs made a huge difference. While a bit more expensive than some outfits, I continue to use Staples Electric given the quality of the work. A very successful day, upgrade long overdue.

I contacted Staples Electric to provide and replace 42 outlets and covers, and 21 switches and covers, for a total of 63 devices in a rental townhouse a couple weeks before their scheduled visit. They indicated they would send two people to do the work. Staples noted that they could replace 6-10 devices an hour per person. To be fair, there were a number of outlets that were inaccessible due to stored furniture. Staples sent one person to do the work. Charged for a total of 34 devices for 8.5 hours of work, which works out to about 4 devices per hour. So even if I concede 15 devices that were inaccessible (which I believe is generous), it means that they should have been able to do 48 devices, at a minimum, according to their own estimate. Additionally, I had indicated that since it was an older townhouse, the townhouse may not have GFI circuits, which would have to be installed. Well, at the end of the day the electrician indicated that they would need to come back to do the GFI circuits and the remaining devices that were accessible. He also said that he did not have all of the parts to replace some of the devices because of supply shortages. However, these were standard electrical devices that you can currently get at Lowes or Home Depot. So Staples didn’t have all the parts needed even though they had a couple of weeks to get them.

"Since day one, our biggest priority has been taking care of our clients and be as transparent as possible, which we believe we have done with all of our clients. It’s very unfortunate to see this review and these star ratings. From the moment we scheduled to the moment we took payment, we were in communication with the homeowner, as this was a rental property and homeowner could not be present during the visit. We immediately contacted the client upon receiving the review in hopes to make things right. Unfortunately, we weren’t given the opportunity to rectify ourselves on something that could have easily been solved and dealt with with just a phone call. And yes of course, we could have just replaced the devices and moved on, but in reality, like the review mentions, this is an older townhome that actually needs a lot of attention and it was our duty to verify the existing wiring/electrical system to ensure its safety before moving on. We take great pride on the service we provide our valued clients. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them. We strive to provide our clients the reassurance, and peace of mind, they need to feel safe in their own home after a visit from the electrician."

I scheduled this company but they never showed. The lead estimator then lied and said that he had called and "went onsite but had no luck." Integrity and honesty is a big deal for me; the fact that someone is lying for such pettiness should say enough and reflect poorly on this company. I don't know about the quality of their work, but based on this anecdotal evidence, I'm glad they weren't hired.

"We appreciate your feedback and time to review us. We are always more than willing to address any issues, as we did with this client. Unfortunately, there was a minor human error on the phone number we had on file. For this reason, we provide email confirmations so we can ensure we have accurate information on file for our clients. Our lead estimator/owner, Craig Staples, also went onsite. By no means do we have the intention to waste anyone’s time. This estimate was scheduled on a Saturday, we try our very best to be as accommodating as possible. We do pride ourselves in customer service and our reviews speak for themselves. We would have loved to have shown our quality of work and hope we can be of assistance in the any future electrical projects."

Staples did an outstanding job. There were prompt, did the work we needed, found out why all of the lights in our house flickered, resolved the issue and installed a bunch of WiFi enabled switches. Craig Staples, the owner and master electrician, is outstanding, and he keeps a good eye on all of the work they do. Highly recommend.

I was originally referred to Craig Staples by a friend a few years ago. He is my go-to electrician now, no question! His work, and that of his team, is awesome! The prices are reasonable, they are prompt, easy to work with, clean / tidy, and very professional. Craig did a ton of work on my house back in 2017 and has done more recently (ceiling fan installation, whole house surge protection, wiring the whole home for ethernet, breaker panel updates, recessed lighting installation, etc.). I should also note that Craig has suggested lower cost fixes / options when I thought that something more expensive or involved would be required.

Excellent! What wonderful service! Craig and his team went above and beyond in listening to our needs, making recommendations, and executing - even adding to the actual work done as we discovered other needed improvements. Work was done with minimal disruption (and preserving wallpaper and minimizing wall cuts). Fabulous work - thank you!

Excellent in both estimate process and the workmanship. Could not be more pleased. Very responsive, accurate, and professional in talking through our needs and then delivering quote. Work was scheduled over two days as planned, arrived on time, provided clean-up of work areas afterwards, much appreciated. Will reach out again for additional work we have planned in the near future. Thank you, Craig and Staples team!

Craig provided a thorough estimate and answered a lot of questions I had with our new house. He inspected out breaker box, and pointed out a few non-code electrical issues as well. He routed our bedroom light switch after we did some construction, removed an old light fixture and installed a canned light. Overall I was very satisfied with Staples and will use them in the future.

Extremely quick response time to get an estimate! Estimator was company owner, and he established very good rapport. It was easy to approve and schedule the work. The contract clearly stated what was covered and not covered (i.e., I understood that we would have to paint a little after the job, since it required cutting through the drywall). The workers were efficient, pleasant, and the company owner was on site the day of the work. I was very pleased with this company and will definitely call them for any future electric work.

We had excellent, punctual, professional service. We had an incident with a spill on the front of our house on the part of one of the crew, and the owner of the company came to check it. He promptly scheduled to repaint the entire front side of our house. This was done with great professional care. I would recommend Staples electric to anyone who needed a prompt, caring, and professional service.

"We appreciate your feedback and time to write a review. Spray foam can exploded and orange foam on white wasn’t the best look. While accidents happen and we tried to clean the wall, it just didn’t look right. So we offered to paint the area. We see anywhere between 3-6 clients a day. My expectations are that every job goes seamlessly and without an issue. Life just doesn’t work that way. However, my satisfaction is that the client is taken care of reasonably and fair."

This is a tough review to write. On the one hand, the owner was very nice when he came out to give a quote. On the flip side, the quality of the work was poor and the technician left a safety hazard unaddressed when he left. When I contacted the company about it, rather than offer to fix it outright, the owner said he would fix it for the standard hourly rate. I will do my best to detail exactly what happened in an honest and objective manner. My wife and I had just purchased a home that was full of two-prong outlets. I contacted Staples to replace them, and set a date to have the outlets replaced. I gave a description of the project and they set a time to come out and fix it. On the day of the planned service, they called to ask what age the house was. I told them it was built in the 40s, and they then told me they needed to first come out and assess the outlets to make sure the project could be done. This was a bit annoying since I would have preferred to know this advance, and also would have preferred to have everything done at once, but I agreed. By itself, this wasn't really a huge deal, just an annoyance. The owner of the company came out and we talked about the outlets as well as the long list of other electrical modifications we are planning. He was very nice, but he never actually inspected the outlets, so I'm unsure why the initial review was necessary. He then set up a tech to come out the next day to replace the outlets -- and I appreciated the rapid turnaround. I got the sense that they were busy and he was specifically trying to make sure I was taken care of quickly. I requested that as many outlets be replaced in an hour as possible, and I told them how many outlets there were in total. My main concern was only one outlet -- the one where our entertainment center was plugged into -- but I knew there was a one-hour minimum so I figured might as well make the most of it. They quoted an average of 6-12 outlets replaced in an hour, and they noted that every house is different. The tech arrived on time the following day and got to work. He seemed to have some difficulty, but he never said anything, so I'm not sure if he was inexperienced or if our outlets were difficult. I don't know enough about electrical work to make that judgment, but it took him about 45 minutes just to get through the first outlet. He then did five more, and said that he had only brought hardware for six outlets with him so that was all that he could do. This was a bit strange, since they quoted 6-12 outlets can be replaced on average in an hour, so I'm not sure why he would only bring six with him for a one-hour appointment. Here is where things get a little tricky. On the one hand, he spent almost two hours replacing those six outlets, but we were only charged for the one-hour minimum. I thought that was nice, and I appreciated that I wasn't charged for more than an hour since I had been very clear that we had only budgeted for one hour. On the other hand, all of the outlets are crooked. As in, the interior part of the outlets point up or down, depending on the outlet (they didn't before). I have never seen outlets that weren't level before, and while it's not a huge deal, I would (obviously) prefer that the outlets were level. But here's the big sticking point: After the tech left, we discovered that one of the outlets was installed with a 1/4" gap between the outlet cover and the wall. It's not just a major eyesore -- I think it's also a safety hazard since this gap would allow liquids, etc. into this gap and into the interior of the wall where the wiring is. I think the gap is small enough that a child's finger probably wouldn't fit, but it would be close. I think at a minimum I should have been informed of this problem before the tech left. But additionally, when I reached out to the owner about the problem, he first told me that the problem was something he called a "paint gap" and that the previous outlet cover must have been wider (it wasn't). I told him that it wasn't an outlet cover problem, and he then said that it was a broken screw and would take 15-30 minutes to extract, but that a minimum 1-hour labor charge would apply. That would make sense for a normal repair that was unrelated to work they had done, but this was something that came up in the course of doing a service call, and should have been addressed at the time. This was a pretty big turn-off for me. If I had been told about the problem up front, I maybe would have been more understanding. But leaving a gap in the wall for me (or a child) to discover at a later date seems like a poor practice, and that's on top of all the other outlets all being crooked. In their defense, I waited awhile to contact them about this problem. I believe about 10 days had passed before I first emailed about the problem, and then another week or two went by through the course of our back-and-forth email conversation. I should have been more prompt, it was just difficult because we had just bought the home and had a million projects going at once. I had planned on using Staples for the rest of our fairly extensive electrical work, but this experience made me rethink it. I value quality work above anything else, and I did not think that the work that was performed for us was high-quality. However, I really do think that Craig was very nice, and I think it's possible our experience was not representative of the work that he personally does or what he's qualified to do.

In a recent review we were noted to visit a client for service on a Saturday and I didn’t charge. They were super nice on a previous job and we just appreciated that kindness. It’s not about just charging clients.... However, it’s not reasonable to think we are a free service."

I was mad at myself for changing the dimmer switch and not doing it properly. That left me with no choice but to contact an electrician. I asked Craig Staples for a quote on Saturday. Although he is not listed as working on Sunday, but I guess since there was no football on TV he decided to make some easy money. He said he'd be there at 2 and he was right on time. Very nice man; fixed the switch in about ten minutes and didn't laugh at me to much for my incompetence. If I need an electrician in the future it will be a no brainer as to who I contact.

Remarkably responsive to my call: I left a phone message on Saturday expecting a call back during the work week, and was pleasantly surprised when Craig (the owner) returned my call about 30 minutes later. He arranged to stop by early the next morning (Sunday!) to assess a problem with a partially failed circuit in the basement. He identified and resolved the problem very quickly - and then declined to accept any payment. Staples Electric performed a decent amount of other work on my home in a past project, and I would definitely call on them again in the future!

I contacted Staples through Angie's List to ask for a quote. Instead of giving me a quote for the job, they wanted to visit to do an in-person quote, and offered a Noon-4PM window to come estimate the work. We had a few messages back and forth, and they seemed reasonably responsive.Something came up on the day of the visit, and I was hoping they'd be here early in the window, so that those I could take advantage of the opportunity. 1PM rolled by... 2PM... 3PM... then 4PM... Nothing. No ring on the doorbell, no phone call (I provided my phone number), no electronic contact through Angie's List. That is beyond unprofessional. (I even found myself wondering if maybe by "Saturday 12-4," they meant December 4th, but that's not a Saturday, so I don't believe there was any miscommunication). The time they offered was on a Saturday (11/24), when they don't have regular hours, so they're not answering their phone, and I can't call them to ask what the problem is.Note on timing: In fairness to Staples, this was near a holiday. They offered the Saturday estimate on the Tuesday 11/20. I confirmed on the same day (Tuesday). On Wednesday, they acknowledged the appointment confirmation and asked me to confirm the address that was already provided to them with the initial request for estimate, but my schedule didn't allow me to respond until Thanksgiving morning. They didn't check their messages Friday or Saturday morning to see if the appointment they had set up was still on, and apparently canceled it without making any attempt to contact us
Response from

"It’s always best to do an on-site estimate. We need to make sure the electrical system is suitable and quantify labor times, etc. We do have normal business hours, but by the time you confirmed it was on Thanksgiving Day. I actually just responded to your message and offered today. Then I noticed this review; which is not very fair ... by the time you confirmed is was on a Holiday..."

Craig did a great job for me and my family. He was punctual, helpful, and communication was excellent. The job had to be broken into several pieces due to my schedule, his schedule, and outdoor conditions. He and his primary assistant were responsive to our needs and flexible in their approach. Craig provided great value, and I appreciate that he focused on informing me clearly of what needed to be done, differentiating between what was necessary and those portions that were recommendations. His estimate was very fair, and accurate. Craig was open to showing me what he found in the course of his safety inspection (either in person or through photos) and patiently answered my many questions about his recommendations. I have recommended Staples Electric to my neighbors, and will call on Staples Electric again in the future.
