"Thank you [Member Name Removed]! Your review is really great, trying to convince folks that Geothermal lives up to the promises is so much easier to believe coming from someone who has it. Have a super "nice and cool summer". All the best from your Geothermal provider North American Geothermal."
"Thank You Mr. [Member Name Removed], It was a pleasure working with you. Your WaterFurnace will take great care of you and your family, and so will we! Thanks again. North American Geothermal."
The system takes up less space than our old HVAC and has worked very quietly and comfortably for the past year. The yard now shows no sign of ever having been disturbed. The company representatives were very patient with my many questions during what was an extensive due diligence process on my part prior to choosing geothermal for our new HVAC system. Since installation, our heating and cooling costs have fallen quite a bit (though not 75%) and I will try to update this later with some numbers once we have more billing cycles to compare. Now that I've seen what goes into the installation I would have to say the price is very good in terms of what the company does, though of course the buyer's payback on such a system will take a while. (We crunched the numbers ourselves very carefully on this.) The energy tax credit is very helpful in that regard. We think it will be worth the expense given the energy savings and typical reliability and longevity of ground loop systems.
There do not seem to be many companies in this area that provide this service, the others that I talked to either did not have the right equipment to do an installation in our small yard or would have required me to contract separately with the drillers.
After receiving several quotes from local vendors, I was able to break down all costs (electrical phase, drilling phase, mechanical phase (equipment procurement and installation)) and then compare "apples to apples" for all vendors (equipment and services). North American did not prefer this sort of project development and execution, however, they did allow me to break up project and manage it on my own. I used their recommended/preferred drilling company and electrician to ensure the most effective and efficient means of expectations by all parties. North American salesmen and installation technicians were all very professional, very informed and prompt.
However, I found North American's "blackboard" (internet means of communications for any and all correspondence) after the contract was signed to be less than satisfactory. I used the "blackboard" to communicate concerns, ask questions and confirm certain items / schedule as promised during the contracting process. I found responses on average would take up to two or more days forcing me to follow-up with either a telephone call or another posting on the "blackboard". I found North American's primary point of contact for customer service and scheduling to be less than receptive or informed to some questions or would speak out of turn / on top of the customer especially during one telephone conversation where the customer was simply trying to confirm a process. I found this same point of contact to be less than prepared to discuss my project and sometimes stated some inaccuracies to the project either due to poor documentation or poor notes filed away for the project. Lastly, North American failed to show for one appointment to complete the walk through and final installation of one component. It was subsequently re-scheduled.
Again, I cannot say enough great things about the sales and installation staff for North American. My recommendation for this company fell from a rating of an "A" down to a "B+" as a result of the customer service as discussed above. Aside from that, I would work with North American again, if I intend to install another geothermal system. I have recommended this company to a close friend as the only company to work with in the local area for geothermal systems. North American deals only in geothermal systems and makes them the market leader for geothermal systems as opposed to most of the other vendors in the local market who work a variety of different (conventional, hybrid, geothermal, etc) systems which detracts from their ability to be subject matter experts in geothermal technology, systems and operation. And lastly, despite breaking up the contract to save some money on this large "do it yourself" project, North American's first estimate (inclusive of all of the insurances for unplanned events / expenses) was still very competitive within the group of six estimates that I collected for this project.
Had a few snags drilling, so completed a few days late. Put us in a hotel the one night that the home smelled from pipe glue.
Repaired the lawn to (mostly) it's original state. Reimbursed us for two broken sprinkler heads.
Overall, they were a pleasure to work with, did what they said that they were going to do, and communicated well through the process.
I highly recommend installing a geothermal system to have better air quality throughout the house, a quiet system, half the carbon footprint and less maintenance. I highly recommend North American Geothermal to perform this service.
After burning through nearly 1000 gallons of oil (not to mention the second floor heat pump electric bill) last winter, we knew we needed to install a more efficient heating and cooling system in our new-to-us home. Despite the higher upfront cost, we decided to make the move to geothermal and reached out to North American Geothermal and one other provider. Early on, it was clear we wanted to work with Paul, Mark, Richard and Brandon of North American. From the initial consultation, to the quote, to the manual J, they walked us through every step and answered all our questions. After signing the contract it was several weeks until drilling began and another week or so to be hooked up and running. Through out the entire process there was excellent communication and attention to detail, and any questions or concerns were quickly addressed.
A few things that made the experience stand out for us:
~ Genuinely nice people who believe in their product and stand behind it.
~ No surprises. The job was done for the price quoted in the time quoted.
~ The job site was left clean and safe every day.
~ Small requests, like patching the brick where the oil fill pipe was removed from the wall, were done without hesitation or extra cost.
~ Great communication, including advanced warning of when to expect people at the house and daily phone call wrap up reports.
~ A referral to a bank offering an 18-month "same as cash" loan equivalent to the 30% tax credit that was applied directly to the installation costs.
The bottom line is, if you are considering installing a geothermal system in your home or business, North American should be on your short list of companies to consider. They are highly professional, have excellent customer service, and will do what they say they will do.
It was a multistage process, as we first replaced my existing HVAC unit in the house and then installed the loop field necessary for the GeoThermal system to work. Despite a challenging property, they did an excellent job and I am very happy with this system.
It's a big project. It entailed drilling two 225 foot wells in my front yard, and a big trench under the front porch to get the pipes into the house. I'm thrilled with the results. We've been running since March 2013 and based on my electric bills, it is going to cost fewer than $700 to both heat and cool the house for the entire year.
Fantastic technology, and the federal tax credit helped reduce the cost of the project by over $8000.
The guys were great, no complaints whatsoever. Go for it!
