I absolutely love Little River Veterinary Clinic! I have been bringing my dog here since he was 6 weeks old. All of the doctors are friendly, professional and simply have the dogs best interest in mind at all times. They talk to you like a normal person and spend lots of time explaining and answering questions. They don't rush you out the door! We've worked with them with mange issues, neutering, vaccines and general wellness checks. I recommend this group to everyone with a dog!

I do not like that I cannot write a personal check...it needs to be cash or credit or debit.......I do not have debit card and do not want to add to my credit card. I have to guess at how much cash to withdraw when I take my cat or dog for services....However, front office personnel very friendly and courteous in giving me an estimate..The physicians are very agreeable to work with me on the recommended treatment plans based on my budget. For instance, we will start first with labwork ,meds, and immunizations that are the basic priority recommendations and I get a printout of the estimated total charges. I will also get a printed estimate of the cost of more extensive services and treatment options that may be recommended based on the outcome of the initial exam/tests/review of immunization record. I feel respected in the way the doctors work WITH me on this.

My dog loves to visit this veterinarian - the atmosphere is not one of pain, but of welcome and caring. He was seen immediately, the cyst was aspirated and we had a detailed consult with the vet about possible outcomes. My 11-year-old dog was calm, looking for treats, the entire time. The ease of getting an appointment - so that I didn't have to worry about his health - together with the prompt professional attention, was marvelous.

It went very well, greeted by staff when we arrived, minimal wait to go into the exam room. Dr. arrived promptly and cats were examined. They were handled gently, professionally and stress was minimized. Vaccinations were given, and neither cat reacted to the injections.
Requested refill prescription for heartworm preventative for dogs and it was filled and dispensed. Check out was efficient, but did not get the feeling of being rushed at any time during the visit.
Very happy with Little River Veterinary Clinic and will continue to take my pets to see the doctors and staff.4000 BURKE STATION RD

We have changed from a "corporate" service to this much friendlier (both people and dog) support service because it was such a great experience for all of us.

So after my visit on 22 Dec everything was going great but then my cat, Stinky Evinrude, took a turn for the worse on Christmas. They gave us an appt first thing in the morning on 26 Dec, Dr. Downs reviewed Stinky's test from 22d compared to 26th. My Stinky cat was much sicker than we could have ever known. He was in renal failure and despite doing everything possible, nothing could be done to save him. Dr. Downs agreed with me that he could not survive in his condition and explained the procedure for putting Stinky to sleep. She and the entire staff were so kind and compassionate. They let me spend as much time with him as I wished then when I was ready, Dr Downs gave him the shot and he just went to sleep. Again they let me stay with him as long as I wished. They were so respectful with him. They brought me some of his hair and a nice poem with his foot prints. Dr Downs explained the cremation option versus having him buried in a pet cemetery. Explained the costs as well -- no pressure and let me think about it. I opted for cremation; they helped me take Stinky's carrier to car and made sure I was okay to drive. They also said we would settle the bill later. They sent me a very nice pet sympathy card where the staff wrote and made it very personal by using Stinky's name. They later sent a nice letter stating Stinky's remains were ready for pick up.Today I went to pay Stinky's final bill and pick up his ashes. His little ashes were in a nice little wooden box with a certificate stating when he was cremated, etc. It was all very nice. If your pets are your and quot;fur kidsand quot; you understand what I mean. They could not have been nicer.I am very pleased with their professionalism, personal attention, and personalized service.

I also took my other cat Scuba Elvis for a wellness check today and saw Dr. Park. She was very thorough, understood my anxiety as well as Scuba's. She listened to my input, asked a few questions and took Scuba in the back for an exam. She came back a little while later and stated the physical exam went well but we would have to wait until next week for the results. I recommend Dr. Park as well...

COSTS: Scuba's visit today was approximately $200 (with Pet Assure) and the bill from Stinky's last exam, tests, euthanasia and cremation was just over $400 (no Pet Assure). I gave them a B, becasue it is very expensive but I understand it is an individual committment. I have been to more expensive vets (in this region) and to more economical vets (not in the DMV region). Having Pet Assure reduces a lot of the costs by 25%

It went very well. The tech did an initial workup, then we saw Dr Downs. She was very nice and has students observing which is good for the students.

My cat got fluids, blood tests, an antibiotic. The vet, showed me the gum disease my cat had. She made recommendations that we discussed based on need, cost and discomfort to cat. She was very patient and answered all my questions. The techs were very polite and kind to my cat.

Cat got an injection of antibiotics and sub-cu fluids. In 24 hours he was almost back to normal(Tuesday afternoon)

On Wed they called and wanted us back to discuss outcome of tests and give cat more sub-cu fluids. Techs were very nice, even cleaned cat carrier after cat had accident. Dr Downs patiently explained options and cost and together we came up with a do-able treatment plan for my cat, that I could afford and would best help the cat. I recevied meds, new prescription food and fluids to administer. They even helped carry all of our stuff back to our car.

The folks are awesome. I am very pleased with them and would recommend them to a friend.

I have been taking my dogs to see Dr. Downs for more than 10 years. She is professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Downs is personable and has a great bedside manner, as do her two associate vets. In addition, Dr. Downs is well trained in treating behavioral problems. Little River is a full service clinic and we have always had a good experience there.

The veterinarian and staff were very pleasant and good with my dogs, but seemed quite overpriced. They recommended a dental cleaning at the cost of over $500 that would cost no more than $250 in Tennessee (where we moved here from), for my dog whose teeth are already pretty clean and need a good brushing, rather than anesthetizing him to do a cleaning. I realize that cost of living around here is higher, but is it really that much more?

They are convenient because they are nearby. They are personable. I haven’t bothered to check anybody else out. They seem to be rather overprotective of the dogs, which kind of bothers me. They want to prescribe them a lot and do procedures and stuff. I don’t always think that the dogs need them. They are open to me saying no. They don’t pressure me really bad. Because my dogs are big, they don’t ever treat them in the same room I am in. They always check them in the back, so I don’t get to see what they are doing. I really don’t care for that too much. For smaller animals, it would be fine because they could be right there on the table with them.

They have a good website. Dr. Downs is the owner of the practice. We've been dealing with them for over 30 years and there is nothing that we dislike. Their prices are comparable to other veterinary practices. They are very, very professional.

This vet is much smaller but the staff was very friendly when we walked in. I was upset that they would not write me a prescription for pet meds (since I can get them cheaper elsewhere). They said they felt they did not trust others products and said they would also not be able to match the cheaper prices I found elsewhere as long as I buy it from them. I also felt pressure to buy their toothbrush and toothpaste for my puppy even though I already owned some. However, the atmosphere was friendly and not busy. They did see us pretty promptly.

Their prices are reasonable and we are very pleased with the service. They are hard working and so compassionate every time we go in there. They try to get you in and out as quickly as they can. I am very pleased with them and I would recommend them.
