I got a quote from Abel over the phone for $130 to change and reprogram my ECM, and they finished the work in 40 minutes. Then I was handed the bill for $277. When I asked, Abel explained that the part change (5 minutes, literally) was $130 and the programming (35 minutes) was an additional $130. What a ripoff!!! Worse yet, it turns out that the tech did not disconnect the battery prior to changing the ECU, causing the fuel gauge to read incorrectly. After calling Abel about this, his reply was that I must have something else wrong with the truck and he would be happy to look at for me for an additional $130. The following morning, I disconnected the battery, disconnected the ECM and left it sit for 10 minutes. When I reconnected the ECM and battery, everything worked normally. I recommend avoiding this place at any cost since I am sure I am not the first to get this bait and switch quote. BBB is my next stop after here. After attempting to follow-up with Frank, the Service Manager, for 4 days, his explanation was that I didn't know what I was talking about since Abel had quoted me $260 and Abel's witness to this was the Service Tech. I asked if it was possible that both of them might be colluding, and he responded that it was impossible since neither of them would lie despite both of them benefitting from additional money charged to me. I also asked about the time required to change the part and do the reprogramming, and he replied that changing the ECM takes an hour since there are a lot of other things that have to be done. I asked about why the entire job only took 40 minutes, and he stated that since it was a Master Technician that the part change and programming took less time. I questioned how a Master Tech could make the programming go faster and Frank avoided answering the question. I also described how it took me less than 3 minutes to do the part change *correctly* to fix their mistake that caused the fuel gauge problem, and he responded that I should have brought the truck back in and had them do the work despite Abel having lied to me. He also stated that all of my experience is normal for Jim McKay Chevrolet, that they had been working this way for years and doing just fine. It took a couple days to catch up with Elia, the General Manager, and the result was surprising but not unexpected. Of course, his employee Abel is an "ideal employee, etc, etc, etc" and would never lie. He pointed out that I did sign the repair order, and I admitted that I should have read it more closely instead of having trusted him to have entered what he promised. Here's where it got surprising. Elia tried to sell me a new truck using "magic math". That is, he used the sales con that when you buy one at $40,000 and pay for it for 2 years and only lose $6000 in value that you are actually only paying $175/month, not the $600/month that you actually pay. At least now I see that the lack of integrity is actually applicable at the entire dealership, not just within the Service Department. Although he graciously offered a $130 credit for future service, why would anyone take their vehicle in for a service knowing the likelihood that they will lie about what is actually needed and what it will cost will likely be a lie? Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Please avoid this place at all costs. You are better off pushing your car 10 miles than stopping here -- the only thing that will get fixed is your wallet.

They completed this effort in a timely manner. I have been regularly taking one of my cars to this dealer maintenance department since October 2003 and I have been consistently pleased with their work. They have always completed the maintenance and repair work accurately and on time while charging a fair price. My favorite service manager is Bob, but all of the service managers do good work at diagnosing and anticipating problems and behave professionally. I would strongly recommend this dealership for anyone with a GM vehicle.

From the very start the service advisor was professional, polite, and kept me informed the whole time my vehicle was in for service. In less than an hour I was back on the road. Bob Homstad coordinated what was, by a wide margin, the most impressive dealer vehicle service experience that I've had in years. My late-model, knock-around GM vehicle is nearing the end of its servicable life, and I decided to use a GM-dealer for scheduled service to identify any major issues. While it's likely that Bob and McKay technician, Todd, could have identified a long list of potential problems, they seemed mindful of my goal to keep an old car safely on the road. With the car on the lift, they took time to show me what I should and shouldn't do. Conclusion: replace tires and be mindful of both the potential problems with and costs of maintaining an aging exhaust system. If you want to match a small-town shop feel with what seems to be too knotch technical skills, you'll find a good fit here.

They replaced the bad part causing the batter to drain and updated the computer software of the car. They listened carefully to our recounting of using other repair services who did not solve the problem. They were determined to find the problem and fix it and they did.

Everybody that works there is professional. Some of the workers have been there for as long as I have been going to this shop. The prices are a little high, but I know that the job is going to get done right. They made a mistake a couple years ago, and they took care of it right away. I have been going to this shop for 50 years. My family and I have purchased several cars here over the years.

TERRIBLE! Worst Experience I ever had.
Description of Work: Worst Used Car Dealership in NOVA. I've had 2 horrific used car buying experiences at Jim McKay Chevrolet. The first involved a test drive of used BMW X3 with my wife and upon test driving the vehicle, we noticed that the rear passenger window was broken out and was covered by a lawn garbage bag!!! When asked if / when it would be fixed, we were told when / if we purchased the car!!! Absolutely unacceptable service, how do they expect to sell the vehicle in that condition??? Recent experience on 9/22, they mailed out a little scratch card that was based on Tic - Tac - Toe, and if you matched any 3 prizes up, down, across, vertically, then you win. I usually disregard these things and toss them in the trash but for some reason I decided to scratch off the card. It turns out I matched 3 pictures of a car diagonally that showed 'Winner' and read the fine print which noted that if you match, you win a 2010 Chevy Impala. Still a skeptic, I called the dealership and the salesman "Duane" said that as long as my name and address were on the card, there was a 3 in a row match, and I had a photo ID, then I did win. The next morning, I called again after having 3 people read the fine print and again, was told the same thing by a different salesman...I even asked, "if I have someone drive me down to the dealership, would I be driving off in the Impala and the salesman said "yes" So, I had my neighbor drive me down and upon arrival, we were greeted by the biggest p , ghetto, kid (I used the word "kid" as this person was straight from the "hood") and he proceeded to tell me while laughing hysterically "Nobody Wins Son" and that I had to match an additional number from the card to some placard with numbers in the showroom...of course knowing I didn't win, I was upset...as I was scammed. I voiced my displeasure and the "kid" said that my consolation prize was a VA lottery ticket but before he handed it to me, he wanted to get some information from me, which I declined, and he proceeded to ask me if he could have the ticket to which I replied "whatever" and began to leave. As I was leaving he shouted sarcastically "look I won $50,000 laughing." Needless to say I was / am extremely upset! I have since filed a report with my local BBB, spoke to the owner of the dealership to which I was given an apology, etc. and filed a report with GM Corporate. Bottom line is STAY FAR AWAY from Jim McKay Chevrolet. Poor, Unprofessional, the "showroom" for used cars is basically a little shack. Do yourself a favor and go to another place.
