Our project was a remodel of a medium-sized basement, which needed a complete refresh. We discussed the project with several companies, and chose Cyrus because we liked their ideas, their approach, and their pricing. They were neither the cheapest nor (by a long way) the most expensive, but were reasonable compared to typical local design/build companies. They were also very responsive in discussing ways to adjust the plan to meet our budget constraints. Once the work began, the crew were a pleasure to work with; the were always responsive to our many questions, immediately resolved the few inevitable minor technical issues, turned up without fail when expected, and completed the work professionally, unobtrusively (as far as demo and rebuild can be unobtrusive!), and promptly. At one point, we found that the practical utility of one of the fixtures did not live up to the design vision that we had originally agreed to; Cyrus were completely cooperative in resolving the problem at no cost to us. The result is everything we hoped for. We are delighted with the layout, lighting, workmanship and finish and Cyrus would be among our first calls should we contemplate any similar project in future.

I was looking for the cheapest contractor I could find to finish my basement, which was approximately 1100 sq. ft. of concrete. I spoke with 4 contractors. Of course every single contractor told me different things. I was told I needed to waterproof my entire basement before they could do anything, I needed an additional electrical panel, I needed an additional sump pump and I couldn’t put my wet bar where I wanted it. This was my first experience dealing with contractors in regards to finishing a basement. Needless to say I was very frustrated because no one would give me a quote, they all kept telling me everything I needed to do that didn’t include the finishing of my basement. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did know what I wanted the end result to be. The PM, Russell Blake, was the person that came and looked at my basement to give me an estimate. He was on time and very polite. As he took measurements of my basement, he did provide me advice when I was telling him how I wanted my basement to look. I appreciated his opinion, especially since this was my first time. He didn’t badger me or tell me I couldn’t do anything. He also didn’t tell me about all these other things that “I was supposed to do first” before I could even start on my basement. He simply showed me pictures of previous jobs and made suggestions in areas that I was unsure about. I did do research and those items that I was told HAD TO BE DONE, were not items that were mandatory in order to accomplish what I wanted. I went back and forth with the quote between Cyrus Construction and another contractor. Russell was prompt with his responses. Which I appreciate, I do not like to wait more than 24 hours for a business to provide me with information. They were not the cheapest but they weren’t the most expensive. The quote was still within my budget. Cyrus Construction did come highly recommended when I did my research and read the reviews. I did see some reviews that weren’t 5 stars, but I looked at the time of the project, how many negative reviews there were total and how many reviews overall. My concern was the overall rating. I believe you can make some of the people happy some of the time, but not all of the people happy all the time. I also chose Cyrus Construction because they did not BS me!! Russell was very easy to work with. I changed my mind a few times, but there was never an issue with my requests. Someone was always home at my house, so the workers did their best to stay out of our way and were always very polite. It took about 6 to 8 weeks for my basement to be complete. I added a small room with an egress window, a half bathroom and wet bar to my basement. All areas were fully finished except the gym area, which I had them close off and just add an entry door. I am very picky and a little bit OCD. I went over my basement with a fine tooth comb and provided Russell with my list, which were all cosmetic. Russell made sure that all items were met to my satisfaction before I made my final payment, even down to the smallest detail. I am very happy with the end result of my basement I attached some before and after pictures. I am still in the process of decorating, so disregard the grandbaby and toys!!

I enlisted Cyrus construction to perform my kitchen remodel. The only aspect of the kitchen that was not changed was the layout; everything else was replaced. Russell, my project manager, was friendly, professional, honest and matter of fact. He worked with me to stay within my budget and also assisted me in designing the kitchen. Once the project was underway, I felt comfortable bringing up any concerns I had, as mundane as they might have been. He was timely with change orders and updates. And the project was not considered complete until my every concern was addressed. My kitchen has since been getting rave reviews. I now have a herringbone backsplash, tile floors, recessed and pendant lighting and a beautiful granite countertop-all of it while staying close to my budget. I would definitely recommend Cyrus Construction for future remodeling needs.

Happy to report that Cyrus Construction, led by Russell, completed several renovation projects at our home and we are very happy with the outcome of each. Our kitchen and family room were combined, completely gutted and rebuilt, our basement now includes a very sweet kitchenette, and our rec room was renovated with all new finishes and a new fireplace façade. The project was complex and there were several unforeseen conditions (structural and electrical) that had to be overcome, but Russell and his team calmly and professionally dealt with each of them. Home renovations are simply stressful, but it was a big help to have Russell, who is extremely responsive, ensuring us that we would get over each hurdle and in the end be very happy with the outcome. And he was right, we are!

We hired Cyrus Construction to finish our basement, including upgrade a half bathroom to a full bath. Before making our decision, we met with James and he shared his vision for the project and several design options. We had a few concerns during the project, however James was quick to come onsite, listen to our concerns and quickly bring a new crew to the project to keep things on track and on schedule. We are very pleased with the quality of their work and the finished product.

Cyrus put in a basement apartment which included: 1 and a half baths, a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, laundry room, living room, dinette and a large deck. The quality of the work is excellent. The foreman and his team are very professional and pay close attention to detail and the quality of the workmanship. They take pride in a job well done. I couldn't ask for higher quality. They left the area very clean when they were done. They're not the fastest workers, but that's because they take the time to do it right.

I can’t recommend Cyrus Construction enough. They renovated my condo doing a full kitchen and bathroom remodel and modernizing the other spaces. Russell came and talked through the job with me. He offered suggestions and was very open to my requests. The quote was very thorough and easy to understand. The crew was courteous, clean, and responsive to my questions. I was not living on the property during the renovation but stopped by each day to check on the work. The foreman talked me though what was done each day. The work was excellent, progressed at a reasonable pace, and finished in a timely manner. I’m very happy with the finished space and wouldn’t hesitate using them again and recommending them to friends.

Literally the worst experience possible. Contracted with them to build the rough-in for a new basement bathroom. We had terrible communication from the project manager and extremely poor quality work completed. Project was expected to take 2 weeks. The project actually took 8 weeks. When going through a walk thru with the foreman, he told us they didn’t use a level when building portions of the new bathtub enclosure which is why it was 1/2” crooked. They also tried to change our 30” dog shower to a 20” size without bothering to ask permission. Worst part was that we choose them because of the claims of working so “clean”. I was 7 months pregnant and getting more limited in mobility. They covered my entire basement in construction dust that was so bad, it broke our furnace. The carpet pad was so badly destroyed, they had to replace it. There was construction debris and cement dumped into our backyard. We negotiated with them to pay for a cleaning company to come in after and scrub up the incredible amount to dust and dirt that was EVERYWHERE since they didn’t bother putting up plastic sheeting like they promised. Thank God we found another contractor that could fix all their mistakes. We will never work with them again.

As your file shows, this project experienced delays due to your request for us to stop work, inclement weather, scheduling conflicts with meeting you on-site for project review, and inspections. Working in a property built in 1943 can often present leveling challenges due to the aging and deterioration of the property. We addressed all leveling concerns prior to closing this project with your approval. Suggesting we tried to alter your layout without your approval is just wrong. As with all other aspects of your project, we received approval from you or your husband prior to proceeding. Each day of your project, you went down into your basement to review the work completed. Any questions or concerns you presented were all immediately addressed. You mentioned you chose us because of our reviews and your comfort with our staff from the initial estimate. We offered you the same level of service we offer all of our clients but it appears we somehow fell short with you. Some construction dust can be expected during plumbing rough-ins and drywall sanding. Whether it was enough to "break" your HVAC unit is questionable. Nonetheless, we paid YOUR HVAC company to come and service your unit. We did damage and replace the carpet pad. We hauled all construction related debris from the site before the project was completed. Our willingness to pay for a cleaning crew was an extra effort to satisfy you after your complaint about the construction dust. You already had plans to bring in another contractor to do the "finishing work". Our contract with you was only for the rough-in and prep work that your other contractor would not do for you. We passed all county inspections associated with our contracted work. You agreed the project was completed to your liking prior to paying us the final payment. The only question we have is, why now? We hope you are enjoying the remodeled space we worked hard to create for you. Good luck with any future projects you may have!"

Cyrus Construction provided excellent quality work in every detail. The renovation involved rebuilding the basement almost from scratch (walls, floors, ceilings, fireplace tiling), as well as building a wall closet and several storage spaces that did not exist before and their carpenters, especially Van, did a fantastic job and had good advice on the best way of doing things. Every time we had an issue their response was fast, polite and effective and James and Farzan take great care of their customers. The work was finished passed the original deadline but the good work compensated for the wait. We would definitely recommend and hire them again.

Great! These guys do solid work. Our project manager, Russell Blake, did an excellent job working with us throughout the process. Russell was understanding and gave us a good discount too. Our kitchen looks beautiful and absolutely stunning. We have received so many compliments from our friends and family. My only recommendation, try to schedule projects during non-busy periods. We recently had our basement finished with Cyrus Construction. We started the process almost a year ago with estimates and interviewing contractors. We met with more than 15 contractors before deciding on Cyrus in May 2018. We were very impressed with Russell from the start. We’d ask about a specific for our basement and he would quickly reply with, “So and so did this—let me pull up a picture for you.” He’d find the example he was looking for and show and explain. We were so impressed with his recall of past projects, it gave us the assurance that he would be hands on and on top of the whole project from start to finish. The estimate we got was so detailed we felt like we could see where every penny was going. When you’re spending this amount to renovate something it is a good feeling to know exactly what you’re getting. We made our selections, and were able to get started at the beginning of July. The people coming in and out of the house to work were friendly, respectful and responsible. They were careful to lay down painters’ cloth as they moved in and out of the house. They left our home clean each night. Even though we were having roughly 1300 sqft finished we did not feel like we were living in a construction site. Whenever they were going to be loud (drilling into concrete etc), turn off water etc they would give us notice so we could plan around it. Our site project manager Nerus was wonderful as well. He and Russell were so responsive by phone or email. We worked closely with them through the whole process and as a result had a very—VERY small punch list of corrections/fixes at the end. We had our basement turned over to us mid-September 2018. We are thrilled with the way it turned out. The finishes are nice, the workmanship is great. We felt that they really listened to what we wanted in that space and worked hard to deliver and execute that plan. We have a few more renos to do in our house and will not hesitate to hire Cyrus Construction again. From start to finish they were a pleasure to work with!

The process for our remodel and other improvements using Cyrus Construction went very well. Russell Blake is very responsive and works with clients to make sure that all parties are informed and happy with the work. In every job, there will be some unforeseen issues. Russell and the work foreman Edwin worked quickly to make sure the job went smoothly. Now that all the work is complete, we have a high quality and great looking bathroom the exceeded or expectations. We will call Russell agin for the next home improvement work we want to have done.

The most important thing first. The kitchen looks great, we are very happy with it. Quality materials, no linger problems. They fixed all the small problems that come with such project. The guy assigned to do our job was a meticulous craftsman and very likable. He involved us with his decisions and offered advice on our decisions like which garbage disposal to buy and how to solve little problems with things like what to do when a cabinet doesn't fit quite the way we expected. We loved him! Price was competitive and the change orders, for the most part, were reasonable. Project management and scheduling left something to be desired. At the outset our PM said it will take two weeks if we don't run into problems. I didn't believe his estimate, but I did not think it would take 11 weeks. There were changes some of which, admittedly, we caused by changing materials mid-stream and asking about other options. But our PM was not responsive for weeks at a time to questions. We had 4 weeks where nothing got done and no one on the Cyrus side seemed in too much of a hurry to get things going again. Plus annoyances like the first day 1 hour before the crew was to arrived they postponed--couldn't they have known this the night before so we didn't expend all this effort to get the room ready for them? Our crew disappeared for a week--the foreman was sick--couldn't someone have called to let us know? Would we use them again? I'd check maybe if it were available. Beautiful result. Solid craftsmanship and everything works right. Competitive price. But aggravation of waiting so long and not having good communication among the team members made it problematic for us.

We were very pleased with the result. This was a large job that took a concrete basement and completely finished it, including adding a bath, gym, office space, bar area, and large family/rec room. The costs were consistent with the estimates and Cyrus was reasonable about several minor changes made over the course of construction. It took slightly longer than the original schedule to complete, but Cyrus worked very hard to accommodate our "beneficial occupancy" needs - and succeeded. Notably, any problems or defects were corrected quickly and without disagreement. The quality and craftsmanship of the work were excellent.

We looked at several companies but were most impress with Cyrus and their project manager, Russell Blake. Mr. Blake visited the premises multiple times and came up with the best plan to satisfy our needs. The contract he prepared was extremely detailed with regard to the work to be accomplish, the materials to be used, and the exact cost - a big plus that was not typical of other companies we contacted. We have done other major projects in the District and in Bethesda and I would say this one went as smoothly as humanly possible. The crew was terrific. Superb craftsmanship, super friendly, courtesy, and always left the premises clean. The entire job was finished in a timely manner and significantly faster than I had expected. We are super happy with their work and would definitely use this company again.

We hired Cyrus Construction to finish our basement, including creating a recreation area, wet bar, full bathroom, gym, and guest space. We researched several companies and received several quotes before making our decision. Cyrus’ bid was very competitive and the reference we called had nothing but positive things to say, so we took a leap of faith. Russell was our project manager and primary contact and guided us through the entire process. He was fantastic to work with and remained committed to our complete satisfaction throughout the project. He was patient, knowledgeable, stayed in regular communication with us and promptly addressed any questions we had. Our construction crew was extremely professional – they worked very hard, cleaned up each day before leaving, and displayed stellar workmanship. We especially appreciated the attention to detail – they made sure every element – from the fixtures to the built-ins– was picture perfect and flawless. There staff was really attentive and responded to my inquiry immediately, which was great. 2 surveyors came out for measurements. Simple plan requested - over the top plan provided. The plan provided missed several structural elements and had deficiencies. The plans were difficult to read and interpret due to small size and inability to expand and read.

If you had trouble understanding the plans or the proposal, the invitation for clarity was already extended. Russell was very accommodating and helped us to stay within budget. There were no surprises, and the work was done very quickly and efficiently in time for our new school year in September. We appreciated the 3-D cad design that Russell put together and adjusted based on our unique requirements. We also enjoyed picking out the materials in the showroom in Fairfax. It was a very pleasant experience, and the quality and craftsmanship are definitely shining on this project. We would love to do more projects with Cyrus in the future, and we highly recommend them.
