2nd review. 3 years ago I left a glowing review about Colonial. Chas Kubrick is AMAZING!! They were professional, the construction team did a fabulous job and I think I only found 3 nails. I purchased the upgraded roof and upgrade for beautiful Hardie siding. Fast forward to today and I'm leaving a 1 Star review. Why? Because last week I called about some problems and learned that they only warranty their work product for 2 years~ small but important fact that must have been in the contract and I missed. It certainly wasn't spoken. I recall the wonderful Hardie as well as the CertainTeed Roof warranties but nothing about a 2 year repair warranty from Colonial. Given that information would I have chosen a different company? Of course! I have 2 major problems, a leak inside of my sunroom as well as a problem with the siding which has destroyed a window and French door. A technician came out for the door and explained the when the siding was installed on the deck, they failed to do the flashing. And well, you can see in results in the pictures. When contractors come to provide estimates without missing a beat, each says I shouldn't be having these problems after 3 years and that Colonial should repair. I explain the 2 year clause they laugh and proceed to share their warranties and that Colonials isn't the standard. Two years? That's the honeymoon stage problems seldom arise. So, here we are, either file a claim with the roof and siding manufacturers, pay out of pocket OR file a claim with my insurance company. Each option sucks because I went with a company which doesn't provide an actual warranty for their work product. Don't be me, be better.

Colonial Remodeling LLC has poorly responded to multiple request (email and calls) to fix a leak in my roof. 2017 they installed a new roof and gutters on my house. I currently have a leak in three areas in the roof and no one has even responded or been helpful at all. Labor and materials are still under warranty. This is not a good business practice if they can't even respond.

Colonial Remodeling has always been prompt and very thorough with all their documentation while we were working with our insurance company on a Hail/Wind damage claim. If it were not for their knowledge on how the process works and what to ask/prove to the insurance company, we would not have had our claim payout increased by $16K. I would/will go to them first for every remodeling need - I trust their work and honesty!

Due to a storm we finally were able to get our roof fixed. Colonial Remodeling has a great reputation and Chas was extremely professional and knowledgeable about the process. The best part is that it was covered through my insurance.

Our representative was incredibly knowledgeable in regards to both the insurance process and the necessary items which needed to be addressed and repaired. Through out the process they said in touch and keep us updated. We recommend them to all of our friends and will use them in the future for any of our repair needs.

I am a 90 yr. old home owner of a rental property in North Arlington that unfortunately caught fire the beginning of 2020. A couple years ago my neighbor hired Colonial for a roof replacement from a hail storm. He told me his insurance company was giving him a hard time to get his roof approved and he hired Colonial Remodeling to help get a full approval and stated they did a beautiful job so referred me to them. Not only did Colonial perform the whole mitigation and gutting of my house quick and efficient, they completed the whole job beyond my expectations. They also negotiated with my insurance company 3 times to make sure I did not have to come out of my pocket at all. Colonial’s architect went the extra mile to help re-design the interior and help pick out all my appliances and accessories because I’m not physically capable of going store to store. I couldn’t be happier with every step of the process. The final Arlington County inspection passed with flying colors and I was able to get my home back up for rent with zero speed bumps thanks to Colonial.

"Thank you kindly for this wonderful review. Colonial Remodeling has been doing insurance restoration work for 25 years now. We take pride in the fact that we excel in working with our homeowner'[Member Information Removed] insurance company to make sure they get everything they are entitled to in order to bring their property back to its original condition. We really enjoyed your project and hope that we can work with you on additional remodeling plans in the future."

Terrible they initially took a down payment and I never heard back from them for 4 months. Then when I advised them we were not going to use them and was cancellling the insurance check. They tried to sue me for that amount so we allowed them to do the work. They put a roof on and had to do redo it. The siding was acceptable but the painting was terrible. I would avoid this company at all cost!
Response from Colonial Remodeling LLC
"In the 4 months of “not communicating”, the Colonial Team was able to assist in adding $14,605.82 to this customer's storm damage claim. We were able to increase the homeowner’s insurance estimate by noticing missed hail damage to the property and bringing it to the attention of their insurance company. Thanks to our dedicated storm damage team, the project that once included just partial siding now included a FULL siding replacement. Once we received word from their insurance company that full approval was granted based on our estimate of missed damage, our representative quickly reached out to the homeowner. Unfortunately, the homeowner notified our representative that he “spent” the initial insurance funds. Since this is a breach of contract and we had expenses on this project already, we had no choice but to take legal action. Upon realizing his legal position, the homeowner came back very upset - hence all of the complaints and accusations about tools being stolen. We took the matter seriously, investigated these accusations and do not believe this occurred. We have never in 25 years of business had a complaint about any of our customer’s property being stolen and take offense to these accusations. We stand by our loyal crew in this instance. Furthermore, the homeowner never filed charges for the “stolen property”. Regarding Mr. [Member Name Removed]’s roof installation, Colonial did not properly install a starter strip shingle while applying the roofing system. While this only affected 5% of the entire install, the Colonial Production Team tore off the entire roofing system and did a COMPLETE REDO of the roof install with ALL NEW materials. Like all contractors, Colonial does make occasional mistakes; however, we service our labor warranty EVERY time to make sure our customers get the best result possible. As for the siding being acceptable? This James Hardie install was flawless and looks beautiful. This person is clearly upset he was unable to breach his contract and pocket insurance funds."

Terible Wanted out of the contract for non contact. We then allowed them to do the work after a threat of court. We let them do the work the roof had to be done twice and I had 1200 dollars worth of tools stolen from my garage! STAY AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACTOR!

Ken was very responsive, detail-oriented, and a real pleasure to work with. He oversaw the whole process from initial insurance assessment to final walk through of the job. The roofing crew was very courteous, professional and efficient. The clean up was incredibly thorough (shingle granules cleaned off, stray nails removed, etc). It was so refreshing to have such a positive experience with a construction project!

They have to come back and finish some work. They still have an open item to fix. Their options to quality and aesthetics are what stand out the most. So quality, workmanship, warranty and aesthetics; making sure that the roof is done not only accurately but also aesthetically. There was some digital flashing that matches the roof that comes up over, as far as the options that they offer. Most importantly was the warranty commitment. Some of the other contracts that I reached out to were only offering a year, Colonial offered a 5 year warranty and labor. So to offer something like that, they are guaranteeing their work. I had multiple contractors come through, so I knew what the range was, as far as price.

The sales person came out and walked me through my options. He was great. He didn't over stay his welcome and followed up with emails and answered all my questions. The items were ordered for one of 4 jobs that I wanted them to complete. They had one of their lead contractors come out to measure the window. He was the same person that completed the install. The day the crew came out on the scheduled date to install my windows. The only major issue I had was the main contractor asked me in the middle of the install, what color the trim on the inside would be for the bay window. I told him white and that it was on my contract. He said okay and ran to home depot to buy paint. He had two of his crew paint our window trim and the inside seat of the window. They painted as if it was their 1st day on the job and they had never painted before. Instead of throwing down drop clothes or plastic to ensure my hardwood didn't have paint marks, they put down cut up card board pieces from the new bay windows packaging. It did not cover the entire floor. My husband and I spent hours removing the paint from our hardwood floors. We contacted the front office and told them about our issue with the paint. They sent out another person to take a look at our complaint and agreed to have the paint job redone. After two more visits and coordination with another contractor the paint job was completed correctly. However, I was extremely annoyed to be asked again, what paint color and brand they used for our window. I told them, "how should I know? it's it on the contract or in or file". Either way, the new contractor did a fantastic job matching the paint color. Even though they rectified the issue I would not use them again. I was quoted for 3 more large jobs but this 1st job was a test to see if they lived up to their A rating. I think it is unprofessional for a company to have to come back to finish the job they were paid to complete a 2nd time because it was completed incorrectly the 1st time around. I also don't like that they have multiple different 1099 contracting crews that complete their projects. It was overall an okay experience.

The insurance company denied the claim and asked them to come out three times and we appealed the claim and they had to come back again, then reschedule to come again due to the insurance company. They never charged us. They were good about that.

"Thank you for the kind words. We really appreciate you mentioning how hard our storm restoration specialists work to make sure our customers get everything they deserve from their insurance company. Dealing with an insurance claim and damaged property can be stressful. We are happy to assist and are thankful that you took the time to leave a review."

It went very well. Michael Shannon was the salesperson and Marvin was the job manager. Both men are very professional and were always available for questions. The workers were pleasant people who worked incredibly hard everyday. The workmanship is of the highest quality and included some extra work that sprung up during installation. Cleanup was thorough. I highly recommend Colonial for installation of James Hardy siding.

Colonial Remodeling did a great job on our roof. Ken Dinkel, who was the lead on the project was excellent to work with. He did exactly what he said and our house looks great. He handled/walked us through the entire process and everything went smooth. I rarely write reviews but felt I needed to because of the outstanding job.

It went very well. Right from the salesman to the people who did the work. They showed when they said they would, the work was done when it was scheduled to be done. The roof looks great and they left my property in a clean condition. There were no shingles left laying around.

The work done was beyond excellent. We worked with Charles who guided us on choosing the right siding and roofing options, as well as managing every aspect of the work with exceptional craftsmanship and punctuality. He also went above and beyond in helping us through the details of the insurance process. Overall, our house now looks practically brand new on the outside, and has even gotten unsolicited offers from realtors since the work had been complete! We can't say enough about how wonderful it was to work with Charles and his team, and would unconditionally recommend Colonial Remodeling to anyone.

Chas showed up at 9 am as we discussed.  After taking measurements and giving us some ideas and feed back, they came up with a design that was very nice and under the budgeted price.  He and his team were very courteous and understanding of our requests.  They kept everything at a professional standard.
